For my first ever post I'm gonna throw some wild speculation out there and suggest this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Vennegoor_of_Hesselink  - as a potential Euro striker.I know he's probably out of the nix price range but you never know.

It would be interesting to see what chants YF could come up with with that surname though

Exactly.

Same player agent as a few current/former A-League players. May be right about his price tag though.

Also spent a lot of time over the past few seasons on the quacks table.

I would be so down for Venegoor, especially being dutch myself.

Hes on the older side, but he is still pretty mobile. His injury record wasnt great, but thats always a hard factor to decide on with our shorter league.
Sign em up Ricki

+1 for Vennegoor

Plus he has a connection with Killen so hopefully signing one may lead to the other or something....

Venegoor would be class. Would happily give him a marque signing. Maybe this is because he is an ex-hull player and I may share some bias, but he would be a top signing. Highly unlikely though I would think.

Like I said, wild speculation... but all the big European leagues have started and he's without a club. Plus he's got a flimsy NZ connection through Killen at Celtic, a not so flimsy a-league connection through his agent, and he used to play for a team with a similar stripey shirt (Hull). Also he played last season for Rapid Wein who came 5th in the Austrian Bundesliga so I don't think the a-league would be too much of a step down, or that he would have been getting that much money there either.

This is how I'm justifying my dreaming anyway

A little from column A, a little from column B and a little from column C. Actually not much from A. I'd like to see him get a chance.

Greece

Nope, this club has been relegated to non-professional football in Greece, they only have a handful of players on their books.

Rapid Wien has in the past few seasons been knocking out English opposition in Europe (Aston Villa twice I believe) so if you think that's where the A-league level lies, then good for you.

tbh I wasn't aware of that fact which does put a different light on things - although I am aware they are a club with a fine pedigree. I was simply going off their 5th place finish in the Austrian league which is 28th in the UEFA coefficients rankings, below such leagues as Bulgaria, Finland, and Northern Ireland

although the Northern Irish league did have this goal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzAZTdyOXcA so maybe its not too bad

Is it because he would take up a foreign spot ?
I think that rule should be scrapped, Aussies should not take up a foreign spot in a New Zealand team.

Not a worry for me, he was in the reserves last year. Mistakes are always made.
Lovemore is listed as a nix player on fantasy A-League
Musa, Mulligan, Diego still listed as nix players on Fifa12

Its all good with me.

I dont mind him as a player, and could do a role off the bench for most A-League sides.

However, what we are looking for is a guy who can start every game of the season for us.

We have greenacre for that role, and personally I would rather see an 18 year old striker on the bench for the nix than a 36 year old. No offence to the guy, but he is the one type of striker I wouldnt take (well one of the types)

Dakota Lucas to get a run for the injured Pav.

Quick striker - has done alright at a NZFC level, has moved to Welly if i remember correctly so is there and has more potential than Lovemore.

Be quite happy to see this.

Dissapointed we got Griffiths for a under 20 spot when Branch is available - his performances against quality teams (albeit at u20 level a couple of these guys are already valued more than the nix squad collectively) were excellent.

Well there we go- Ricki knows him well. He a midfielder. And his club has just been in trouble, we bail him out. Love it.

Plus it means we still have import spots for some sweet foreign signings!!

Imagine if we get Ward, Killen and a Euro striker. That would put us back in contention imo!
