Luke Rowe is an interesting proposition.

Birmingham youth player since the age of 13. Signed full time a couple of years ago. A regular under 18 and reserve grade player, played FA Cup youth semi. Played all of the games for the kiwis at the Under 20 WC. Surely this puts him in the catagory as "good prospect".

I am not saying rush him in to fill Mannys spot at RB against the Victory but if the club has any policy of developing youngsters for the future then guys like Rowe must come into the equation somewhere along the line.

Some people are justifiably cynical about age group players but you would think that training full time and playing age group and reserve grade games at RB for a Premier league/Championship club would give you some sort of grounding in the fundimentals of playing in this position.

Hopefully the club will keep an eye on him at Team Well and then maybe give him a shot if/when the Nixettes are revived

We aren't exactly overflowing with central defenders. I think Boxall would be an excellent signing on loan, plus in an emergency he could cover right back. Vancouver have finished and he didn't get a lot of game time so could probably use the experience. It would be worth enquiring about whether they were interested in loaning him out over their offseason. I don't see how it would jeopardise his future chances.

Can someone explain the transfer rules? In particular, how many clubs are you allowed to play for in a year? I have heard some good things about Luke Rowe in the past, so I am just wondering whether a move from Team Wellington to the 'Nix might be a (not too distant) possibility.

Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during
one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play
official matches for two clubs. As an exception to this rule, a player
moving between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping
seasons (i.e. start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to
winter/spring) may be eligible to play in offi cial matches for a third
club during the relevant season, provided he has fully complied with
his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs. Equally, the
provisions relating to the registration periods (article 6) as well as to the
minimum length of a contract (article 18 paragraph 2) must be respected.

Gulp!

Are you saying that thats it?

That all us deluded fools who know that Chris Killen's a free agent on Nov 4 and were expecting an announcement of his imminent arrival.......are just deluded fools.?

That its true, that the new owners won't be dipping into their wallets any time before Xmas?

That we won't even get a full quota of replacement?

That we have to battle along with our squad of the old, the suspended, the infirmed and the not very good?

I think I might go and find a quiet corner and weep!!

Firstly - I'm pretty sure he's a left sided player.

Secondly - he's been cut from Birmingham right when things get serious.  Good on him for coming up through the grades but really we need to put reputations out of our minds when assessing players.  I read a stat somewhere that 2 years after signing pro forms in the UK just 10% of players are still playing professionally.  There is no shame in being one of the 90% but it does give some context to how many kids go through the system and don't make it.  There is a big difference in being the top 20 players in your intake and being in the top 25 players at a club.  That's the difference between an academy and a first team player.

Thirdly - I really expected to see more at the U20s from him.  Maybe it was Milicich but there was a lot of touch, head down, hit channels from him on that left hand side.  One to watch but let's not get ahead of ourselves

yup..i guess time will tell us if Rowe is a better prospect than Griffith, Tsattolis and Downey. But looking at these three their CV's don't hugely more exciting......and they have been signed to the Nix.

The fact that Tsattalios Downey and Griffiths have been signed by 'nix DOES NOT make them better players than Luke Rowe..

Just saying.

Lets see how Luke Rowe goes over the coming months with Team Wellington
Then if the Nix do the reserve thing again this year I`m sure he will get an opportunity to impress
He obviously couldn`t find another gig in the UK, so he`s here to be on show chasing an Olympic spot.
Also Griffiths and Tsattalios could be one year wonders as they both fall outside the U21 spots for next year leaving 2 places to fill if Lindsay shows enough and is kept on.
An opening for Rowe there.

For me, Luke Rowe wasn't great the the U20 World Cup. There was a little bit of hype, the whole All Whites wider training squad, seeing the words 'Birmingham' in from of academy. But if he's going to show he's a cut above the rest of the young kiwis, then he's in the perfect place to do it. Team Wellington have obviously been seen as a foot in the door of the Wellington Phoenix so lets hope he, Dakota Lucas, Nick Branch and Scott Basalaj can impress.

So is Team Wellington the new feeder club for the Nix? I notice they were wearing a stripey in pics i've seen from their recent game.

Sign them up as amateurs, and then watch them, if they develop talent, then sign them up as pro's? Fits with Welnix supporting Wellington.

As a side note, why can't ACFC have the same perspective when it comes to their 'quality' imports?

No, he would be a free agent unless he has signed somewhere else.

If he has another good game it might well be worth offering a full contract by monday regardless though.

Alex Smith?
Who did we sign him to replace? I forgot I'm afraid! Can't we keep him on as injury replacement for Pantelis until the end of the season?

on website it says he has signed a full year deal.

Confusing contradictory noises from the club.

I think he was signed initially as Pav's replacement, sort of an extended trial and has proven himself and might have been switched to Pant's injury replacement or a season long contract, the same thing.

Not exactly the same thing, as if he's signed as injury replacement it wouldn't count under the salary cap.

but surely because we have one player (Pants) who will be out for the entire season we will sign Smith as replacement for him?

If I'm right injury replacements also don't count towards import slots - meaning that he won't count as a foreigner for this season.

He would count as an import I'm pretty sure.

I personally think he is the type of player we need, regardless of his import status - hes hungry as to prove his worth, and versatile - all our versatile players usually turn good

This was covered earlier in the thread. Injury replacements don't count as imports only if they're replacing an import, which Smith isn't - so he counts as our 5th import.

Surely you would be able to sign injury replacements outside the window? Would be daft to restrict signing players to replace injured players.

He is exactly the kind of guy we should have got and by the sounds of things we were after targets similar to him until the new owners came in.
