The game last night was exciting and showed for the first time that this group is capable of winning,no matter what is thrown at them.
For those who have been listening, Chiefy has been banging on about 90 minute performances all season for them to be successful,
The result achieved from this great effort was that the younger ones learnt a big lesson.
By personal effort, the team working for each other, focus ,and being smart, they can enjoy the fruits and enjoyment of winning at this level of football.
This hasn’t been happening for most of the younger ones this season.
I hope that the building of such resilience, which takes time, and the desire to win, creates the drive to more improved performances going forward.
I'm hearing that Wellnix are thinking of relocating the Nix to south Queensland to take advantage of the Kiwi diaspora located there plus the great number of suitably sized stadia available. Plus the weather of course. Plus the strength of the Okker dollar. And the beaches... and well, Rob just fancies a change of scene...

And every time you sit on a bench in the afternoon sun you are getting a ring of fire.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

of course you'd be the one to be ok with moving cities for the sake of keeping a player! good grief!
OK, I was Chiefy Out, but I am Chiefy In for another week at least!
Things came together in the sort of way we'd be hoping for all season ...
I've been teetering on this for months.
6-1 - Out! End of season renewal (once hurt feelings had eventually been put aside) - In Newcastle and Victory games - Out. In between times - Ranging between in and out.
The way I explained my love for this club to my brother's who were all together over the Christmas period (They don't particularly follow the A-League - Eurosnobs, but can't resist the urge to put the boot in...) who asked "How can you keep supporting them? You lived in Auckland a majority of your life, you could easily switch up, they're useless - rah rah rah"
Over a few beverages the best way I could describe it to them was that following this club is like standing and looking out over a big cliff face and appreciating the view, the sunsets, all of that, when even the littleist things go your way, and then turning around and walking away knowing exactly the place I'll come back to next week.
The next week comes and maybe things aren't so rosy, it might be a loss, or some other public discourse around the club - Media beating us up, or just Auckland fans being a pain in the arse, and then having to go back the same vantage point - Just this time it's a bit stormy on the horizon. Hell if its even been that bad, I might just feel like I want to jump!
The ebbs and flows around this club at the moment make it feel like we're constantly in a state of limbo and that is hard to deal with, but at the end of the day that's why we all love it, no matter how batshark crazy we might go on here. It's why I do anyway.
We never seem to be far away from the good or the bad over very short periods of time. The emotional roller-coaster is both terrifying and exciting.
I hope if some of you have picked up on my hypocrisy previously (even sitting here tonight I've realised I've talked some mad shark over the course of even just this season!) just know I wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to the Nix. I'll defend the club vigorously, but I bloody well enjoy having the robust discussion that should come with the game when needs arise.
Anyway, sorry for going a bit off topic. Just thought I'd get that off my chest. Well in for last night too lads, it was very much needed.
Nice post YH. 100% agree. When Nagasawa scored I was on my feet screaming at the screen. Its been a while since thats happened as a Nix fan. It would be good if we could keep this squad intact for a few more seasons because you can see the potential. Keeping Eze would be vital plus adding a few top imports. A Chico type no 10 is a must IMO

Roll on next week and COYN!
I think you've nailed it, supporting a club means you have to be there through the bad times as well as the good. If you go from club to club chasing the good times does it really mean anything? If you've suffered, the good times are just that much better and more meaningful, theres nothing wrong with feeling down during the bad times, that's what makes football and supporting your club special
Every player we would have wanted to keep at the end of last season who was at the end of their contract left. At the end of the previous season, every player we would have wanted to keep who was at the end of their contract left except Kosta (and we also sold Old, Paulsen & Surman).
Yeh agree. I wrote in the other thread you’re either a fan or a bandwagonner. If you’re a fan who wasn’t born near a big club, there’s gunna be some years of pain.
I was Chief out after Melbourne and as some observe, we’re still far from where we want to be. A rollercoaster season in a salary capped league.
And Central Coast are smashing Adelaide 4-0 currently. It’s not tough at the top, but at the bottom of the table this season!

We don't keep good players, as a general rule.
What rubbish, what dont you understand when a player is at the end of their contract they can do what they want. Dosnt matter how much the club wants to keep a player if that player wants to go for whatever reason at the COMPLETION of their contract. Its just made up BS by some of you continually suggesting the club dosnt want to keep good players.

The Nix did more before the big APL disbursement drops of recent years.
Pretty sure likes of Taylor, Hooper, (peak) Ball, Wootton all signed contract extensions and/or returned after time away.
Plenty of regular AWs before that
The new broadcast deal to be revealed about April? That could dictate what the Nix have to spend for next season, and who they can try retain
Gate revenue is going to be down, though there is still the 3rd derby and ChCh game
Hard to see much in the way of transfer fees this year
Will an improved TV deal make much of a difference to us keeping hold of players (most of whom we lose to other A-League clubs) when those other teams will also be getting the same improved payments from APL as a result?
Would be nice to see us make a statement just once to extend a player who is coveted by other A-League clubs. Match or better what they were offering for a key player for us.

Pretty sure he doesn’t need the contract system explained.

Maybe but dosnt seem to understand they work like some others they love to make it sound as if the Phoenix are the only team that has players leave when their contracts expire.
Maybe the point is that we do not "spend with our heart", we sensibly "spend with our brain". People leaving at the end of their contract for a better offer (who might have stayed if we paid over the odds) simply means the owners likely said "that's fine, but this is how much the DoF and coach can spend next season so take it from there" despite our bellyaching. The upshot is that we live within our means.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
I've been quite cynical on the forums lately, so apologies for the delay in jumping on the positivity.
What an outstanding performance from the team. Some of my thoughts from the game below:
- McCarron redeemed himself in this game. Although only tested a couple of times, he looked more comfortable and did his bit. - It's always a joy seeing LBS play, and I hope he gets more minutes soon. Shows a bit about his character to pass it to Retre instead of taking on the shot himself despite being desperate for more goals/minutes. - Wish I could see more angles of that red card, probably a fair call but would like to be sure. The yellow cards given for the brawl was farcical. - Substitutions worked out very well, Conchie struggled to find any of his teammates so was a good move bringing him off early, Retre and LBS also contributed. Credit to Chiefy here. - This is a classic smash and grab, backs against the wall game that reminds me of the good ol' days a little. Hopefully this spurs on the lads against Adelaide this weekend who's just come off a thumping from CCM. We desperately need to string together a couple of wins.
Must have been so so tempting for LBS to try and round the keeper and score, already 2-0 up and late in the game, so good on him for knowing the right thing to do and square it up especially at his age and stage in his career. Mccarron was much better but still a way off the level required for me. Definite positives and took some crosses nicely, but handling of shots on goal still make me a little nervous
After watching us v the Roar the only surprising thing for me was how on earth did they get up to 3rd place. They are one the worst sides in the league.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

It has all been built off their extremely strong tough tackling defence, honed by Valkanis.
That's unless they playing the Nix, against whom they have conceded 5 goals in 2 games, whilst conceding only 4 goals in their other 9 matches! Insane stuff
Now their 18 year old standout defender Lucas Herrington has left for the MLS. They might be in for a slide down the table.

I think Mccarron showed a lot of great things too. He was dominant in the air - maybe Moreso than Josh. He made solid saves with his feet.
Although, he has some glaring weaknesses like his decision making and positioning. His conditioning needs to be improved too but that's more of an age thing.
Agree, he is not ready yet. Nice that he got to redeem himself but I hope Joshy will be back soon.
