Retre does 'something' for the 2nd time this season and injures himself. ffs.

Retre made of cheese strings ffs

Good to see that from us.

Piscopo went down in back play under no heavy contact or with a head injury - Play on!

oh piper, could have used a better touch and cross there.

Haha! he's been great tonight but that was a comically poor cross from Piper.

Pounds needs to play as high as Kosta and stop dropping looking for work. He needs to a weapon on the end of stuff not one generating the ball.

Can’t pass. Has been really great at many other things, but missed more passes than something than something that misses lots of passes.

Wish Payne just took a shot there instead of the cross

Genuinely been an incredibly entertaining game. This is what we’ve been wanting to see all season. Yes I’d like to see a win or a draw, but honestly? This has been a great watch and we’ve had genuine pressure in the tail end of the game. A joy to see.

Disagree. I want to win.

That third goal for MV was a killer. You really don't deserve to win a game with defending as disgraceful as that. That said we did show some fire there in the last 20 and almost made them pay.

Officially can’t make finals now, just play the kids now nothing else to lose

give piper the number 9 shirt next season. the kids got outstanding physicals and game sense. play him up top and let kosta buzz around. keep him away from half spaces where technique matters.

I guess if the choices are what we’ve seen for 80% of the season or tonight, I’d take tonight!

Two absolute great goals, a couple of great saves, us chasing points in front of the Fever for the last ten.

If we play bloodless possession ball, I want to win the league.

We’ve played two good back to back games at home and a good away win.
Yeh, it’d be nice to win, I do get that, but it’s at least not been dire and soul destroying watching for a month!

actually, we can get to 33 points, and 6th place is currently on 33 points, and 6th & 7th & 8th placed teams don't play each other at all, so they could theoretically all lose their remaining games and we could win all 3 of ours with a massive GD swing and make it, couldn't we? I think either Sydney or Adelaide need 1 more point to kill us off definitively. Sydney could get it done within the next couple of hours.

One win from our last 10. Not sure if I have any confidence in Chief for next season. Disappointing he doesn't seem to be able to turn the team around now with a full squad.
I don't think we'll be signing many players, if any, who'll be better than what we've currently got. So where's the change/improvements going to be coming from?

I generally agree, but to be completely fair, I thought there shouldn't even be a discussion about Chiefy staying before the most recent Sydney FC game. For 3-4 months before that game we looked utterly abject. But starting from the Sydney game, we have won 1, drawn 2 lost 1 and looked much better (than the last 3-4 months) in doing so. And that is without Rojas, van Hattum, Ball from the beginning of this season's squad, and without Chico for the last two of those games. So maybe there is a debate to be had about whether he should stay.

Though of course he will be staying, even if he shouldn't, the club aren't ruthless enough to get rid of him just yet. He will be here next season.

Anyone who genuinely watched this game and thought 'wow we pushed victory to the end, give chief another season' is truly dillussional. The island nations created more goal scoring opportunities against the all whites then we do week to week. Do you really want to watch another season of this dire shark?

i think you're right

the big thing for me is that the standard and organisation of the better teams in the league are streets ahead of us. this is the gap we have to make up.

if you only watch phoenix games, you'd be forgiven for thinking we're doing ok right now, but we're not. we're miles off. just look at auckland v sydney right now. 1st v 6th. it's fast and high quality. as well as the squads being strong, it comes from two teams having established tactics where the emphasis has moved beyond tactical thinking to getting a result in the game. cohesion is high for both sides, so they are just going at each other. we're still sorting out tactics.

we obviously have recruitment issues. on top of this we have selection issues and also tactical issues. most concerning is the small organisational things that are not properly catered for, like the long throw in to kosta with only two others in the box. this sort of thing is on repeat. it wreaks of disorganisation and that reflects mainly on the coaching. these things are inhibters that make it hard for what is already a poor roster to perform at peak.

It's definitely a worry when two of your imports are subbed off quite early in the 2nd half and your keeping import isn't up to standard.

Thanks!

Frankly after 3-4 months of absolute misery, it’s nice to watch us play some exciting football.

Yes, those outcomes you say would have been much better, but after the swill we were dished up week on week, this is a vast improvement if the choice is between that and today.

We are bad and played badly. Yet, we were in a lot of this match. I think Hughes, Woots, Sutts (bar the cross for the goal) and rufs had poor games. If 1/2 of them were on then I'm not sure we would lose tonight. But like most of this season, thats a big 'if'.

I mean twist my words all you want.

I thought it was a great assist from Payne, backing up last week and a great combination goal for Piper. Oluwayemi made several great saves.  Am I allowed to appreciate good play by Nix players?

It’s much better to have those consolation prizes than no initiative, no ability to string passes together, no energy, no shots of any kind, passing sideways and backwards only…

Sutton was very involved going forward. Gave up the ball in a couple of dangerous situations, but got us out of trouble a couple of times too.
Given he was up against Veuillupillay and Arzani wide, I thought he was a pass mark overall.

Rufer perhaps down against his standards, but not against the quality of our midfield this season!
