lucky? fighter qualities? undeserved? clinical?
all could be used to describe that performance, but none really matter because we are sauntering away with the points!!

Take that, really clinical tonight would've liked us to be a bit more solid on the ball but without Piscopo, I guess we just set up to counter. Especially considering we haven't played in a while.

Fantastic three points. That late Ball goal didn't do the slipped disc in my back any favours whatsoever but it's well worth the pain!

We picked up a lot when Pennington and Old came on.
And Sandoval was in that last attack…been part of this run- he copped some criticism tonight, but there’s a flip side to it…

That game was a bloody grind.  I feel for the Jets, who might have been a better team on the whole, but not on the board. Immensely proud of our guys.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Might have been the game where Sandoval played the whole 95 minutes, but did not assert himself as much, due to the physicality and close marking by the Jets.

Should have won by more.
Sublime and sloppy are my adjectives.
Both sides had their chances, but we definitely could have run up the score if we’d be more careful n the counter and earlier subs could have made it more comfortable too.
Still it worked- 3 points!

Was obviously our game plan so they were not necessarily the better team. We've dominated possession in games but seeing as the Jets want to do it, we let them have it and focused on the counter.

Another 3 points for Sail in the Alex Tobin award. Having a stellar couple of years the big fella.

Ya beauty!
Hopefully it's not too long until this team are back at the Ring of Fire.
They deserve a bumper crowd roaring them on to their first title.

Sutton the late assist king- and what a thumping header from Ball this time!

Great win, an important win too for us to assert ourselves in the top 6 with games in hand. So good to see Waineo back amongst the goals as well.

Sotirio and Sutton had excellent games as well. Sail it seems has excellent games all the time now so I won't go in to the superlatives for him too much.

Bloody good night all round.

If Newcastle can sort their poor defending they'd be a right crack at the 6. In Penha and Mikeltadze they've got a couple of top tier players on their books.

Ref blew his whistle when he had the ball with no one in front of him, the shot was after the ref blew... so I think the point was the ref should of not stopped play in such an attacking spot. If we were the team behind everyone would be furious!

The better side lost tonight, not that i care as 3 points is 3 point and we are top 6.
I think having such a hard game tonight should have the boys ready for Brisbane in a few days time. A game we should win.

dunno if they were the better team, we let them have possession and they did nothing with it, 30 shots and 12 on goal, 2 scoring, compared to our 10 shots with 6 on target and 3 scoring. They were incredibly wasteful with the possession they had and shot either well wide or straight at Sail.
We did what was needed with a really strong counter-attack game plan, showed that we'd had a 2 week gap with some of the passing being a bit wayward. Take the 3 points, this is what the a-league brings.

We set up to win on the counter.
When you play that way you have to expect to have little possession as you are always looking for the quick release.

We also sat deeper to invite them in to create those pockets of space.

It was an excellent example of a manager and team knowing how to set up to win a game of footy.

Superb to get 3 points after such a long period of having no games. Bally finding his scoring boots at the right time of the season too. Happy days! Come on, let them come home! I wanna watch this side in the flesh.

I thought we were garbage but took the goals well. Sail kept us in the game again with some great saves.

Key thing is: if you can win playing garbage away*, you are a good team!

*Every Nix game is an away game, we've had more then any other team on Earth over the last 3 years I'd say.  We shouldn't have issues travelling to Australia now when things return to normal.

We definitely were a bit rusty but we made a lot of nice attacks and scored 3 well-worked goals you don't just do that if you played rubbish. This wasn't like when we last played Jets and lost 4-0.

A bit of a random comment, but Australia could do worse than selecting Sotirio with his speed and form he's in.

Well seems he’s turned down New Caledonia for the OFC Tourney. I presume they approached him.

Could he do a Durante one day? I can see him being at the Nix awhile, for some reason

He’ll only miss 1 Nix game with luck, and he is well overdue an AWs debut.

Paulsen ain't a bad replacement.

Does Sotirio qualify to play for New Caledonia??
He would definitely be in the mix for the AW at least as things stand right now. I guess it l comes down to how soon he could be eligible and whether he'd want to play for us (and Hay would want him to)

both parents are new caledonia and he has duel citizenship (French and Aus) only played in Aussie U23 team nothing for the senior team, so technically eligible for NC if he wanted to be.

Dont think away games as they are playing them now can in any way be compared to an away game when they have to travel from New Zealand. Big difference travelling internally in Aussie and an international flight from NZ.

Being based in Aus sucks. But playing “Away” games in NSW when you are based there is very very different to travelling over from NZ. No airport queues, no 3.5 hour flights, no taxis to your hotel, no checking in, no unpacking your bag, no Covid tests, no filling in forms etc etc. All that tedious travel stuff that becomes a chore, if you fly alot.

Last time Nix played outside of NSW in A League was 1st Jan. Also the last time they lost an ALM game. So they have had over 2 months now of short trips, sleeping in the same bed every night. Surely has been a factor in this run.

He hasn't been based in NZ though, so when the Nix returns that clock resets and he will have to live here for five years - by the time he's eligible he won't be the player he is now.

Hope he does get a socceroo call up. He deserves it with the form he's in.

Have to say although his passing game wasn't crash hot last night Sandoval once again showed what great value for money he's been. Crucial involvement in all of our goals, ran his guts out for the full 90 minutes, was a huge factor in getting the three points.

It's exactly what you want from your big ticket imports. At times they might seem a bit mediocre and frustrating but they will always come up with the game changing moments, and Sandoval just keeps providing these week after week.

He's in good form but he's still miles away from an Australia call up - their best side doesn't have too many players from the A-League and there's of attackers plenty in the league ahead of him in the pecking order - start with Leckie and McLaren, then add Goodwin, Nabbout, D'Agostino on current form and probably others I'm not thinking of right now.

Not complaining though, he's been fantastic this season and creates tons of headaches for defenders.

yeah probably his worst game for us - in respect to passing and constancy, but he was involved in most things, earned a couple of fouls and was involved in some nice breakaways for shooting opportunities

I was getting really, really frustrated with him. Felt like he tried a million dollar ball every time he got it. In fairness, some of them came off, but others put us under pressure and came at the complete wrong time.

Think he should've been hooked, felt like a passenger the back of half the second. Hard to argue when you score a late winner though, even if he wasn't overly involved.

I reckon he'd been tasked with hitting the one time pass, killer ball. It seemed like it was a directive from the boss. Part of the counter attack plan. Which worked when it worked, just 50% of the time he tried it the ball went to the opposition.
