We need to sign a keeper.
Unlikely, you have the two NZ U20 keepers playing in the reserves.

Idk how much the China Women’s Super League pays so no idea if it’s feasible but imagine if Barbra Banda has fallen in love with NZ.

Especially seeing how many ALW players are signing on to WSL nd in europe after last season. Not just Ozzies either. American import Haley Maddison went from Sydney to WSL after last season. Thats gotta be appealing for import players and raise the profile of ALW.

Excellent work by those that picked this one out. 👏

Liking the direction of the recruitment so far.

she was injured all of last season - her second with us, but played most of the first. So hardly never fit. It was one major injury, which she is recovering from. Edwards will likely start this season as Alfield has had no game time. If you read this article from Rollo in Nov 22 she says it's the first time shes had an injury setback.

I haven't seen an update on how her recovery is tracking but I'd assume she'll be close to fit and be ready as a back up to Edwards come the start of the season.
There's no need to be so dramatic, there's not a catastrophy every day. Infact if you look at the recent signings this squad is gonna be awesome.

Recruitment has been great, Temple has a good looking squad thus far, felel kinda sorry for Lawrence and Lewis being hamstrung by the FFA and their squad restrictions - although I suspect NZF had a part to play in the no imports thing due to them having to replace NZ players.

When asked about Lily at a recent presser. The coach made it sound like Lily wouldn't be fully recovered ready for this coming season. He went on to say something along the lines of.  "The club would look to support Lily in any way they could to assist her with her long term recovery"

Must have missed this, but if that's the case then I would assume they'd be comfortable using the reserve squad keepers as back ups, unless they signed a keeper on an injury cover contract.

They have now signed 15 players (including 3 imports).
I believe, they have to sign min. 18 players on full contracts and can sign up to 5 imports.
I would have thought we still need some attacking players for the last 3 contracts.
The likes of Brown, Blake or Trina Davis +
Still holding out for Longo to sign on +
Another goal keeper. (not sure but thought they had to have 2 goal keepers on full contract, but could be wrong)
Then there are also scholarship and youth development contracts to fill. But imagine most of these will go to younger promising NZer's The likes of
Errington, Nathan, Dugan. One of these also has to go to a young goalkeeper.
Looking like a very exciting team. And even with the imports, very NZ.

so dramatic? doesn't matter who you sign or how good you think you'll be.....if you don't have a proper keeper its a complete waste of time. simple.

Temple: "Macey Fraser is a goalscoring midfielder"

Me: checks Capital Football results for WP Reserves: Fraser has scored no goals

When is she scoring goals - at training?

Reports are training goals do not count.

I’ll tell you whos scoring goals since back from Acl is Nicholson for Coastal, just checked stats: out of 7 games she has only played 5 and scored like 11, defs one forward to watch in WPL, think she was top goal scorer for Mainland this season also.

Niche Cache does a good summary of Fraser & 5 others in this article.
https://theniche-cache.com/football/2023/8/18/here-are-six-future-football-ferns-to-help-solve-our-goal-scoring-issues

From her highlights package I hope the Nix sign Errington (straight into a senior deal) she really looks like a big talent. Bring on next year's U20 WC.   https://youtu.be/IGGUvnCh6WA

Kelli Brown also has 20 goals in 23 games for the Macarthur Rams in the NPL NSW.

I’d be keen to see her return, hopefully not under an injury cloud this time.

I’d say a clear difference between us and Japan: when Japan were up against it and needing to win they brought on their teenage attacking prospect, while Clegg was selected to watch the whole tournament. Neither approach succeeded on the pitch tbf!

I watched a game against Stop Out in May where Fraser scored a stunning hatrick so I suggest the goalscorers stats are incorrect.

Hard to compare Nicolson verses Fraser. One plays in a women’s comp with only 2 competitive teams in it and the other plays in a very competitive prem U17 boys
comp.

Nah wasn't comparing to Fraser both play different positions, just saying Nicholson is a proven goal scorer, has represented NZ, has been offered contracts overseas however prefers to play domestically, probably one of the top younger forwards down south

There is no doubt that there is untapped raw talent around NZ. Be interesting to see which way the Nix womens team goes with there Scholarship and youth development contracts.
Will they look outside of there acadamy at talent across the country (aka Foster last season) or only look to promote there own acadamy players. (as seems to be the way of the mens team)

Going to be fascinating to see what happens if these Auckland ALM & ALW sides are announced next month for season 24/25.

As early as Jan next year they could be announcing some signings, and for sure they will be targeting some Weenix Academy boys & girls. Especially any who have relocated to Welly from the 09

I think I read or heard somewhere that all the scholarship spots will go to academy players.
Look for multi-year deals as well with the NZ expansion looming

What really shouldn't be a surprise, it isn't like these deals pay enough to warrant someone moving to Wellington for one.

Foster took a job at New World stocking shelves, when she first arrived in Welly. So I guess in part it's how motivated anyone is to move to Welly, for a chance at pro football. Won't suit everyone, but the Foster fairytale shows it can pay off.

Is Murphy Sheaff still at College in the US?  Wonder how long Temple will wait with Alfeld's injury, before making a decision on a 2nd GK.

Yeh good point. Scholarship min. salary this year is $12,400. AUD I presume as this is according to KeepUp.
The obvious player that would have been good to bring in that is not part of the Nix Academy is Ruby Nathan. plays her football in Auckland.
Similar to Clegg in that she has one year left at college (I presume). So big call for someone like this to move there life to Wellington especially if there is an Auckland A league team on the horizon.
Comes down to individual ambition I guess.

They will be looking for a visa GK as a 1st choice keeper not a back up to Bri.

If Alfeld is ruled out, and it is a visa keeper I hope it's someone young that's not miles better than Edwards. So they can go head to head.

Or I guess similar Paulsen & Duncan you bring in an older journeyman type keeper to offer some useful experience. That would suit someone already around the ALW scene rather than a visa player.

Edwards played virtually all of the last ALW season. Candy got 1 game? Edwards was also the 4th keeper in the recent Ferns pre WWC camp. Admittedly Alfeld was injured. But BE should be an improved player this season, so deserves to have a proper crack at the starting GK spot. You don't want to stympie her potential development.

think that would be a waste of a visa spot.

Edwards has too many deficiencies like her set play and aerial game.
Needs to develop that part under a more experienced number one.
No point stacking the squad with attacking depth while leaving an achilles heel at the back
