There was quite a lot of rugby tonight. And even people calling about the football had something to say about the rugby

If anyone is at Wellington airport tomorrow night please come and say hi

Nah, can't be bothered. Although I might email to explain that goals from outside the box count double unless they are scored during the 10 min powerplay then they are worth quadruple!!!

I know..because TV1 is pro rugby, always has, If it isnt rugby its cricket, if it isnt cricket its league, if it isnt league its neball. TV3 and Prime are promoting the game well though.

If we win and qualify then i'm 100% sure that football will be added to the list, possibly ahead of rugby.

A quick note re angsting over the use of football and soccer. Stuff website categorises it as 'football" in the sports section...and also has rugby.

I check mobile xtra quite often, they always refer to it as soccer, they'll even change the wording from a NZPA story from football to soccer.

Irnbru 14 and Terminator X

I'm sorry but the graphic on the back page of the Dom Post on Wednesday,  the one I'm assuming you are referring to, is as simple as it gets.
How does "If NZ win the game, they qualify'', suggest that if it's 2-1 to NZ there will be extra time??????? Come on.
And to quote the graphic: "The `away goals rule' only comes into play if the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes, or at the end of extra time. In this instance, the number away goals scored basically counts as a tie-breaker. So, because the first leg was 0-0, a score draw would see Bahrain win because they scored more away goals than New Zealand."
Someone please tell me how this is wrong. If they can, I'll make the change!!!!
Cheers
Enjoy the game. I can't wait.

My tin foil hat is working well.

Last night TVNZ led with rugby.

Today stuff.co.nz (which owns fairfax papers) on their front page has a big picture of an all black eating some food.

NZherald's lead story is the rugby.

Very dissapointing, I mean the union game  is against Italy for petes sake and the media is making it out as being  more important than the all whites match????

It is a joke.

Radio sport has had   a bit  on the football, but not the massive amount that Mark Watson said they would last week.

For the sake of all sport in New Zealand, the all whites have to win.

How do you explain All Whites leading the back page of Fairfax's major daily newspaper - the Dominion Post - for the past three days, and having two front page stories as well, then?
There is also a front page wraparound of the Dom Post tomorrow, which hardly ever happens for sporting events.
And TV 3 had a general news story and led it's sport with two AW's stories. They have two reporters in Welly covering it.
Radio Sport and Newstlak ZB have been all over it through Jason Pine.
This whole NZRU conspiracy theory is a joke!

Tom Rewi who posts on here as tomrewi featured on front on 'The Press' today. Good stuff and also another big article on the back. And usually a big story the Super 14 squads (especially here in chch) is relegated to the inside back page.

I have been amazed by the media coverage over the last few days.

The only thing that got my goat was TV1's 'lets try to explain the difference between a 4-4-2 and a 4-4-3 system' which had me in stitches as I think they assumed that their news watchers were of the Play Center variety...

...or rugby fans?

Anyone know if there was anything mentioned about the game on TV1 during the bulletin. Just heard the sport headlines, and not a mention. Rugby, Golf, League and Tennis.

TV3 on the other hand. Had a a guy LIVE at the airport, interview with ex Bahrain Captain, and all this before the first add break, and the sport headlines were about Mcglinchy and Fallon, and alos about Barhain ariving. top stuff TV3!!

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

yes TV1 showed AW's segment with the Bahrain team touching down in wellington, it was #2 on the sports news with you guessed it....rugby taking first place again.

TV3 however put the AW in there leading sports segment showing both teams.

Well done TV3 again

TV1 is pro rugby and always will. Which is funny cos they have no rights to any NPC or testmatches. pretty dumb if you ask me.

Yes you could tell Hamrish "I dream of sleeping with the AB's in my AB's Jammies" McKay was gritting his teeth with the AW's match being up first.

Tv1 have the rights to Football World Cup games and also have a number of journos who are football fans.  Their coverage is very disappointing   Solution - stop watching Tv1 sports news if you know lack of football news is going  to pi55 you off.  Just watch Tv3

I stopped watching TV3 because i HATE the "what's big on our website today" wank-fest.  I've decided that it's back to three, for sports at least!  Plus I miss plays of the week - there's always a goal in there (usually such a  good one Ive seen it 20 times, but 21 isn't a bad number)!

Fred - congrats on being the first MSM person in NZ to say that away goals are a tie-breaker (if anyone said it first, i missed it!), even if 'they count double' is thrown in there every now & then.

Had to watch one news tonight as staying with parents for the game - what I found hilarious was that even in the football story, they interviewed the NZRU SPORTS SCIENCE MANAGER!!!  (about acclimatisation).

The problem is that 'away goals count double' is even written into the FIFA regs.  Sadly this does create confusion.
