Ok, I'll save it until after we roast Waitak in the Dragons den this weekend. O league here we come >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hope Canterbury finish in the top two and make the O League final next year (along with ACFC). You'd be a worthy team and I think the Canterbury football public would really get behind an O League campaign by the dragons. You've earned it.

True blue do you really think Canty are that good or is it just your hate for Waitak speaking. IMO Canty are at best just an ordinary team but lucky to have Kamo and Highfield holding that team together

Bollocks. You've got a cheek!
this year Highfield and Kamo are 2 of the lesser lights as most of the others have really stepped up - Schwartz, Barton and Smith are really starting to play consistently well while the bench is definitely stronger. They are a class act when they play well. It has taken a few games for them to get up to speed due to a non existent pre season and they don't always get it right but they have definitely stepped up from last season. Waitakere are a top side and playing well by all accounts so it should be a ding dong battle tomorrow - bring it on!

I've seen Canty twice this year.

1: The Bulgarian brothers (or what ever they are) are hype and no substance.
The center back is decent, the striker struggling to hold his place but still useful. Needs to start scoring.

2: Clapham has been not really tested this year and is playing down to the level of the league rather than rising above it.
You've seen him play how many times? He's really starting to hit his straps now, reading and controlling the game well. he and Josh smith are turning into a very good central midfield combo.

Jeff Vader wrote:
3: Adam Highfield is having a good year. Surprisingly, Julian Collett is too and keeping his nose clean as well.
Highfield is class, gets better with age. Collett is struggling to make the side as Terris and Wortleboer hit their straps. a good problem to have as Julian is decent as well.
4: How the fuck does anyone rate Russell Kamo. I mean, really? There must be better strikers than him in the S.I.

You're kidding me right? He's leading the line in one of the best teams in the premiership and you think he's just lucky to be doing that? Ffs.

Thing is there are a couple of better strikers in ChCh in Ash Wellbourn and Gareth Turnbull both from Coastal Spirit who finished first and second in the golden boot in the last Mainland Premier League season, Turnbull is unavailable (coached Mainland Pride) while Wellbourn is biding his time on the bench in his first Premiership season. Expect to see him start in the 2nd part of the season after Christmas as the Dragons build towards the finals.
I think Waitak are the better team across the park. The addition of Mulligan has allowed them to just let Pearce, Krishna and De Vries to roam and sit higher - he will get them the ball. Last year, De Vries and Pearce had to come a bit deeper at times cause there was not that delivery into the right spots.

All in hand, Waitak have been training on artificials for the game, Braithwaite has been doing his own reconnaissance.
The potential is there to upset the usual suspects as always but I really do doubt it based on experience and pedigree of players involved. Looking at how the league is shaping, it'll be Canty and (depending what the hell is going on with TW) probably HBU that will join the other 2 in the top 4.

Agreed. What the hell is going on at team Wellington? Seems to be less than the sum of the parts. Is the relationship with the 'Nix not working that well?

I forgot about Josh Smith. Former Wangavegas boy. He should never have been subbed at Kiwitea for Chris Murray. Looks a good foil for Clapham.

Kamo couldn't lead an Ethipoean to the Golden Arches and you talk about leading the line? He would definitely be up front in my 'all star overrated team'

Haha no he couldn't, I think he'd struggle to find an Ethipoean anyway. I'll let you know how he goes later tonight once the victory celebrations are over.

I think your post says more about Dunedin resentment of their bigger southern rival OtagoRooster than my attitude to Waitakere, who are a pretty potent team this season. I still say CUFC are a credit to the competition.

Outmuscled springs to mind.  Saw the demise of Clapham early in the 2nd half after getting chopped numerous times, the bully boys in the midfield certainly did a number on him and Josh Smith. Having said that Waitak certainly  deserved to win by 2 clear goals at least, our defence was woeful at times and Waitak were far stronger in the 2nd half, our conditioning just wasn't there. Subs worked well as we tried to climb back into the game in the tail end of the 2nd half but by then our defence had been run off their legs and couldn't support and we got stretched, hence the sucker punch 3rd goal. Good entertaining game, poor result for us. We should be all the better for it as we plan our run at the playoffs. Kamo had one of his quietest games as he lacked support from Bayrev who was pretty anonymous, few others stood up apart from Terris and White, the physicality seemed too intimidate them. I think the telling difference is the Dragons only get this kind of opposition 4 times a year and hard to combat it when there are far too many "easy" games. Still, we know what we have to do, let's just do it.

Sounds like Clapham was well under the weather, the impressive home record is finally over, what was it, 8 games unbeaten, 10?

8 I think. Whatever it was it was not enough.

Why do you think big G left at the end of last season and stated liked the fans and the park but!

He wasn't the one getting yelled at either.

Dragons secret santa at Spags on Sunday must have been a laugh with Bartie being santa.

Giant Gobstoppers bought for Keith, who gave him them?

ABC poster for Tsetso.  A framed Ando photo for Julyan, sorry if you don't get the meaning of that one.

Thats more fun blogging about that than the game as we will forget Sunday and look to be better v ACFC.

I have to say I'm sorry Canterbury didn't beat Waitakere although a draw would have suited ACFC better. I know you've been to two ASBP finals and in one took ACFC to penalties, but it must be hard on supporters to get so close but not win anything. You're knocking on the door, you just have to grab the handle and pull it open! The O League must be a huge incentive.

The competiton needs Canterbury and Wellington to really challenge the Auckland teams to make it interesting.

I see on the Canty United facebook page that Andy Pitman is back as a player - a good move or not? I feel that the Dragons have missed a bit of 'steel' in the midfield this season.

Dragons coaching staff have blinkers on again if they think Pitts [pun intended] is the best player not already in the squad, plenty of younger players with steel [your words as what was needed] that had over the last couple of winter seasons being playing better than AP.

The Bulgarians. What did they do for the Dragons future or local football?  Shite all i'd say, a point in case and not worth going to watch when thats the logic of the coaches.

I'd rather have seen Ash and another local player get the game time. Unless overseas players are better than Claps and others F. off.

OMO. Will still buy a season pass or Dragons pass but!

Important game for the Dragon tomorrow with a semi spot already secured we need a good win to try and secure third place as a semi against Auckland maybe easier than playing Waitakere Utd. Last time YH Manawatu were in town we beat them by a record 9 - 1, if we can win by a good margin and if Waitakere beat Hawkes Bays we will gain a spot. If Bays and Waitakere draw Canty Utd woud been to win by a three goal margin to up above HB.

Yes the first lost by Waitakere this season, a 3 - 2 win -  a Claps pen at two to Kamo, oh and to be kind to the Westies we scored for them in added time at the end. So get down to ASB Park next Sunday for the 1st leg of the play-offs against Auckland City.

PS Baby Dragons also won (1 - nil away to Team Welly) and now only need a point in their final game again Otago to reach the Finals again.

Not a bad results against Auckland on Sunday, with a bit of luck we could have got a draw or maybe even a win. Still in with a chance in the 2nd leg as away goals do not count as 'double'.
