The ratio will be poor, the lack of quality striker has been the sides weak link for several season's now.

Only 50% of the points on offer won by the Dragon's and yet to win two games back to back this season, so all round not good enough to make the play offs.

Dan Ede never giving a chance because of his lack of work rate but he is by far the best finisher I've seen in christchurch since Keith Grosvenor! Maybe it's time now as kiwis is to realise working hard is not gonna win you matches but scoring goals does.

With ten to play Canterbury pushing players forward chasing a goals but  concede a second goal to Eastern Suburbs so play-off looked dashed. 

Martin Wiesenfarth goals in the 90th min but two late as Eastern Suburbs take all three points with a 2 - 1 win and Dragons play-off hopes are now over.

The ball played like it was on a water logged grass pitch. Is English Park like that by design or error.

It's a dud of a pitch that needs to be wet to get the best playing surface which then allows the ball to move. 

Petone same style pitch but way way better to play on this I think is an improved version of English Park.

Who are you talking about? I only saw Danny Knight (1st choice - played most games) and Tom Batty (played a couple of home games).

Away games could have been different.

Not enough financial clubs

No real will on the Clubs or Governing Bodies to do it. 

I believe that the tide may be turning, as least the Federations are now talking about it.  

I've heard more serious talk as well. But I'll believe it when I see it. Have been hearing noise for the last 5+ years. Would love it to happen.

Aye go on do that - then you can compete for the wooden spoon with Southern United again!

Don't buy that as being the outcome just by giving away the players that gave us jack all or warmed the bench when on $10K+ for a short season.

The Dragons still owed one of these players money and had less than 1k in the bank at the time.

Southern got in the overseas guys and still came last.

Good on the guys that have come to the Dragons and are intending to stay and play for local clubs.

Well he top of stats because they get so many penalties. If he was good enough for the the Phoenix don't you think he would be there so that tells a story of its own really don't you think. Personally if he added goals from open play he MAY have more of a case!

yeh and nah. Krishna had a trial with Ricki's 'Nix, but didn't make it. Different recruiting policies and kinds of players interest different coaches. Also, especially as a Phoenix fan, pens are not a guaranteed goal!

Seven new signings for Canterbury

Shaping up as considerably stronger than last season's squad:

Canterbury United confirmed signings: Coey Turipa, Danny Knight, Stephen Hoyle, Aaron Clapham, Cory Mitchell, Sean Liddicoat, Andreas Wilson, Aaron Spain, Dan Terris.

Likely to re-sign: Tom Schwarz, Sean Morris, Juan Chang and Gary Ogilvie

Player Gerdson has been talking to (issue of gaining a NZ passport): Lyle Matthysen (South African passport)

New foreign imports:

"He wouldn't reveal names, but confirmed they had secured overseas attacking firepower, which would be announced in the coming weeks.

"That's all sorted. I did the business a long, long time ago. Not only one [player]. We needed to do something up front and we have."

Lyle stated on Red and Black Sports, on ZB earlier in the season that he is proud of his hertiage so cannot see him chasing a NZ passport.   

Would be a shocker if they can't fit him in as one of 7 foreigners, surely.

When they have Chang in the squad why would you waste a Sunday afternoon in summer going a spending time watching them?

He's tripe at ccl level let alone Nat League or MPL.

The fact that he's even playing in the second-tier competition highlights the fact he shouldn't be playing for Canterbury.

Sometimes the chance to 'coach' at a club for $$$ is too great to turn down, and as an added bonus get to play in a division that National league players would undoubtedly shine in and get confidence for the upcoming season...........

Well we will have to hope this New striker actually is the real deal at this level.

The Dragons don't need anymore out of town flops on big money from WG when the locals get scant.

I hope the new lad knows the correct side of the net to aim at because none of his other signings have.

Eric Molloy could be one of these players Willy is talking about he was released by Southern in June. 

Maybe time to spend a Monday or Tuesday night at English Park having a look see. 

Willy and Alan Walker need to do something to earn their money so time to view what my Dragons levy $$ are going towards.

Eric Molloy is playing at Miramar Rangers, so one would assume he's joining/has joined Team Wellington.

Pretty sure Molloy was announced as a TW signing a month ago.
