The Nix reserve teams game was pretty interesting. Some nice technical skills and good goals. Interesting comments here on the latest Niche Cache podcast about team formation. And wonder if this is a sneek preview of how the senior team is going to line up and play this season.

I think he had it wrong with the formation
I thought it was
4-1-4-1
Eagle
Smith Barry Green McMeeken
McMillan
Main Candy Bartlett Elliot
McCann
and transitioning to
2-3-2-3 further up the field with the fullbacks (Smith, McMeeken) and wingers (Main, Elliot) pushing up.

I thought if the opposition had centre backs with a big boot, and wingers with a big voice demanding a quick ball into the space McMeeken was vacating with her frequent forays into midfield then the MissNix? would've been vulnerable to the quick counter, but Ellerslie had neither.

Certainly was a noticeable difference in athleticism between the amateur training twice a week versus whatever the MissNix do ( I am guessing closer to 5 times a week)

Well, that's why they have the mercy rule in baseball.

Look, I don't know why you characters are busting my chops on this. WSAFC are my club, I know what our Prems are capable of, and they didn't bring their A-game against Central (nor in the last two games of the Northern League, come to think of it). As I say, talk has already started on the forums that Maia Vink isn't up to scratch.

Fair enough to question some of WS mistakes that will likely get found out against better teams.

But I thought we were talking about how central are going to fare.

We'll see this weekend :]

I don't like this new FIFA+ interface. It lacks the best thing about YouTube, the ability to rewind through the timeline to rewatch bits. I started watching 1 minute in and missed the first goal in Central v WSAFC
Yes, I was disappointed watching the Ferns match live that I couldn't rewind or pause the live action when I left for a toilet break or to make a cuppa.
Which means I'll probably wait till after a match has finished to watch it on demand instead.
Though they seem to have as many ads as You Tube when watching an on demand video.
However.....
A tech-savvy friend just recommended I install this free software on my computer and I can say it works very well in blocking nearly all ads online (on websites and when watching videos).
I'm finding that it blocks all ads on FIFA+ for a much better viewing experience.
I use it on my laptop's Chrome browser.
It's free ad blocker software installed on my laptop for Chrome.
It's called "ublock origin" and is free.
It's a fairly new one and I found in fact it blocks all ads when playing videos on FIFA+  (as it does on You Tube)
Details here:
Scroll down to the bottom and choose whichever browser you use under "Platforms"

I have it installed for Chrome - easy to turn on and off by clicking "Chrome extensions" tab at top right)

Reviews by PC Magazine of the top five ad blockers (ublock is the best):

A tip if you are having problems with lagging when watching videos on FIFA+  - click on the cog symbol at top right every time when playing a video and select "HD" rather than the default "HD+" which I found causes the video to lag.
HD works fine for me on my laptop.

Another unsatisfactory performance from Western Springs, they'll be owned if they play like that against Easts or AU or even the Diamonds. Cunningham-Lee made the defence look weak and if she'd had her shooting boots on, the Ponies would have probably got a draw out of that. Mickey Mitchell is a dodgy keeper and I can't understand how she's keeping Tuisamoa on the bench.

Not sure about the wind factor at Newtown but I don’t know what’s more dire - the game quality or Dewhurst

Dewhurst - no contest. Missed his calling - should have been an anaesthetist.

Maia Jackman wins any contest to do with sleep. Thank goodness she never got a look in for The Women's World Cup

Certainly some surprises today... Southern with a huge win against the Nix Reserves, Canterbury losing at home to Karori, and 2-2 last I checked between the two competition favourites

Whats happened to Dugan for the nix? Played all year for the reserves, now not in the squad?

3-2 to Suburbs it finishes... surely puts them into the box seat now

The author might want to visit the new Seddon Fields turf and rewrite the first sentence.
I've *told* Nick before about the new turf being much better but I suppose once you've got a "laugh line" you want to stick with it

Some interesting results out of today

Only saw the very end of Central-Pride, which looked close. Certainly disappointing for Canterbury not to get their first win.

Phoenix reserves again missing first team players and it's showing, Suburbs cruising at 3-0 up and the goals have been very sloppy indeed. Nix have tried to attack them but to no success.

Karori vs Auckland Utd sees Auckland Utd 3-0 up at half time... a strange game. First goal was bizarre and controversial whether the ball crossed the line, AU started very strong and looked to be running Karori over but got a lot more even since and had some good Karori chances; 3-0 perhaps not a representative score.

Karori with the stronger first half to finish 3-1. Decent enough game. Akld def a physical team and a good one.

Not bold enough on the second one! Go Southern!

Are the capital teams is this solely club teams or are they a bit of a mix of players?

Predominantly Karori and Wgtn Utd squads with a couple of guest players. Diamonds have two from Seatoun and 1 from Petone, think Karori have one in from Vic Uni but not 100% sure.
I have horrible opinions

Absolutely fuming. People laughed at me for saying that WSAFC didn't look good against Central and the Ponies, that they were going to be found out by a half-decent team; and I was 100% right. Vink out.

Key for Wellington Utd and Southern now is consistency. Know they can mix it with the best sides but can they be as consistent against all the other teams?

WU haven't played the best sides yet?
I think we might be headed for a Surbs v AU finale.

As I understand it they are allowed to add anyone that was registered to a Capital Club as at 22 September with no limit.

The red card would not have helped.  I can see why it was given, studs visible throughout the lunge, but rare to see in the womens game.

Also hats off to the Wellington United keeper.  91:30 minute 2-2, catching a loopy cross, how often do you see keepers fall to ground unnecessarily and count to 6.  Instead recognised Ellerslie caught out on one side of the field, quickly threw ball out to to her left back to run 75m to setup the game-breaker.

No there is a limit of 5 guest players allowed per team - the players have to come from within the Capital region or the Phoenix setup if they haven't registered them in their team (hence Vosper being able to play for Waterside)

That's logical, I was surprised to see Southern using guest players from another region given they are a federation team.

What's the reg number for that ...
27.6 covers the NRFL teams - maximum of 3 and can't have played in NRFL
27.7 covers the Phoenix - maximum of 3 and can't have played in Central League
there is no equivalent reg for teams representing regions.

Its not in the regs - its in the MOU between the clubs and Capital Football - as it's a hybrid team all the players are registered with Capital - hence why you see the names CF Waterside Karori & CF Wellington United

Having Nix in the league is potentially distorting it. Southern Utd and Eastern Suburbs get to play a team of kids while Ellerslie and Springs having to face first teamers. Zoe McMeekan, Kelli Brown, Daisy Brazendale, Mickey Robertson all in the squad today.

Yes especially when there are only so few games. And no playoff for the title (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)

Meh, the same thing happens with any number of other teams, who will often have a swag of age-grade NZ rep players unavailable, or Futsal commitments, etc.
