No signed on the 25th Jan so another 9 days to go before he can play (its a 30 day stand down period for pro down to amatuer level)

Feb 20 is his lucky day (count starts as of his last game as a pro, which was a few days before he signed)

Is the game 2pm at DF today?? Might be lucky enough to be allowed to attend two games in a weekend if I do all my chores first...

Great game to watch. TW 1-0 up within seconds, and 2-0 up within 9 minutes. The second part of the first half belonged to Waitak who scored with a header and the missed a pen (great save by Basalaj). From then on it was Tee Dubs again who scored another 4 I think and some well worked goals. Was impressed by Roy Kayara and Diane when he came on. Bevin and Barcia also did well.  Does anyone know where Panzer is?

Will the upcoming OFC games be streamed on youtube?

they scored another 2 it was 4-1 - only 5 goals, pretty poor considering the previous two games at Davey F between these teams produced 21 goals! :-)

The OCL games are all being streamed live via mycujoo.tv link on the Oceania Confederation page

Panzer left in January, not sure what his plans are, believe he's training with a local club.

Thanks guys - I had junior with me yesterday so I guess I had to keep one eye on him and another on the game, so it's all bit sketchy in my memory!

Good to hear re: games being televised - will try and watch them.

Just checked Panzer's blog and there's nothing about football in the last couple entries.  Shame, I thought he was a solid CB, would have liked to see him stay personally.

Heard he want more game time than he was getting at TW while they prepared for OFC, trying combinations

Something doesn’t add up here. Central league hasn’t started. Why train with kids at Ole when he could be in the mix at tee dubs?

Panzer was unfortunately not getting much of a chance in the starting 11. Being a defender, his game time is much more restricted compared to other bench players. So he's decided to go train with and help out at Ole, where the training is top notch in the hope of progressing to a professional environment. Guess if he wasn't playing, he figured the training would be better at Ole than with TW. Once he left, they signed Liam Wood, who is now the bench defender.

That's a shame, I liked the look of him.  Unfortunately I missed a few TW games, so he must have gone out of favor during that time.

Thanks for the update.

The vast majority of players training at Ole would be less than 18 years old; whereas at TW there would be few under 18 training. Plus OFC opportunity would have been an opportunity to showcase for future pro gig, esp. if they go all the way. Big call; but I doubt it's the full picture.

Ole were advertising for coaches recently so maybe he went for one of those jobs?

From my understanding fell out of favour at TW which lead to losing interest in football. Was back in Nelson planning on taking a break but got a coaching job at ole/wests where he training with the team when he can. Looking into going back overseas

Pretty much is the full picture. Even if they're young, still some very good technical players at Ole, and they train nearly every day too. It's the closest thing to a professional environment. Tyler Lissette made it work, going from Western Suburbs to second-tier Sweden at 25. Erik Panzer's US connections (having gone through the US scholarship pathway himself) likely to be an asset to the academy too.

Many people and players themselves believe because they have played overseas they are better than what is available here. They are then disappointed when they arrive and the reality is there are players in New Zealand who are better and they end up on the bench. If Panzer cannot handle the competition for a place in Handa, how can he expect to make it as a pro overseas. Saying that I wish him luck with his endeavors.

Have they named their OFC Side? They leave in the morning and haven't seen the travelling squad named. I assume Jacko still out, Diane left at home as surplus. I believe Bevin is staying at home too due to work commitments

Permalink Permalink

OFC put out a program electronically which had all the squads in it - it should be on their website somewhere

here is the TW squad

Scott BASALAJ (GK) Justin GULLEY Scott HILLIAR Mario ILICH Liam WOOD Taylor SCHRIJVERS Eric MOLLOY Tiahn MANUEL Tom JACKSON Nathanael HAILEMARIAM Mario BARCIA Andrew BEVIN Roy KAYARA Jack-Henry SINCLAIR Joel STEVENS Angus KILKOLLY Ross ALLEN Hamish WATSON Daniel MULHOLLAND Marcel KAMPMAN (GK) Steve DIMAKIS (GK

Diane left behind as he's French and they already have 3 (Molloy (Ire), Barcia (Arg) & Allen (Gue)) + 1 Kayara (NCL) as their imports

Jacko out isn't a huge shock given his injury status. Bevin out is a big loss though.

Also the cut off date for naming the squad was too long before the start of the tournament to be accurate. I believe last year one of the Island teams turn up with more than allowed changes.  OFC blind eye work and the team played on.

Jönköpings Södra in Sweden's second division. Looks like he picked up an injury but is back training now.

We can only see one bank but I wouldn't be surprised if there were 3-4k people there. Good game too so far. TW with a good chance inside the first 2 and Fa'arodo with a great shot on the turn later on.

The official attendance for the All Whites game a few months ago was 10,200, so I would guess more like 7-8,000 based on how busy the bank is.
