Well, we can officially bury the "Barry's movin' to Anfield theory"...

Barry seals 12m City move
Gareth Barry has completed his surprise move from Aston Villa to Manchester City for a fee of 12m. He has signed a five-year contract at Eastlands after 12 years at Villa.

I'm not shedding any tears to be honest.TheKop2009-06-03 08:23:32

At least that should seal Alonso's future. He won't be going anywhere now.

I hope you're right.

The fact that there he hasn't been any word of an extension or upgrade of his contract along with others is still a bit worrying. I'd say he's worthy of a small upgrade...

Babel has the potential to be a super star if he uses his ability. I think he has been far too underrated by many fans.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Agree with this. However its his work rate, and general attitude, when he comes on that annoys us. And he says he wants to play striker and with the opportunities he gets (albeit only a handful) he misses sitters a la Keane!

You might argue that its hard to make an impact with 15 minutes a week, but Yossi came in for the second half of the season and forced himelf into a starting position and played into some fine form, despite being behind Riera for earlier parts of the season. He has the potential, but he really needs to start using it. And use his head when he passes! He was fantastic against Real (who wasn't?) and has been pretty good in some games, but others he just goes missing far too easily and often...

My opinion anyhow.

Agreed. It's his general attitude that bugs me more than anything - borderline arrogance or maybe over confidence (not sure) but no real results on the pitch to back it up. Yossi =

You could be right, especially given this news:

All bad on the front of our owners however...

I read Torres wants Silva too.

If Torres wants Silva then I want him twice over Rafa, here's $10 towards the transfer fee - now if we all pitch in...

1 game. prety sur against newcastle quite late on in the season. he got about 15 mins, and when he was on he passed and defended and didn't lose the ball. There has never been any doubting his talent IMO, and this showed me that he's prepared to listen to the manager and improve his game.

I was on that site for about 2 minutes before an article popped up about Perez confirming his interest in Xabi...

Generally look at Goal for crap transfer news. Last rumour; Crouch is coming back.

All we have heard from Benitez and Alonso is that they are staying yet, so many rumours are still coming in. And now supposedly Barca want Masherano.

Financial situation is either being completely blown out of proportion or the Yanks are hiding something.

I hope they're hiding one of those pots o' gold. I've read a rumour they actually exist. Just need to find a rainbow...

EDIT:
Actually a pot of Silva would be better.TheKop2009-06-08 19:33:17

Different kinds of players so it shouldn't be a Lavezzi or Silva decision. Although we might struggle to be able to afford both of them.

Lavezzi's a striker. 2 full caps plus part of the Olympic Gold medal team (I suspect he's a mate of Mascherano's in that case). Apparently Citeh are interested in him as well.

Interesting that even though the group that owns LFC made a loss, LFC (i.e. the club) itself actually made a profit. So the club itself is in good shape and if the owners either restructure their loans or sell up then we are all good.

Fingers crossed.

He looks pretty light on goals to be considered the next Maradona. 20m quid? Reminds me of Robbie Keane.

I think that's key to determining our spending power this summer. While the yanks burnt their cash LFC actually made a healthy profit. LFC's profits may just give us that lil' bit extra.

I dont think he plays as an out-and-out striker. I quite agree about the Keane comparison, like. Except this lad isnt Premiership proven! I've heard he's alright though.

Isn't every Argentine forward hailed as the next Maradona?

Just dont sell Masch or Xabi!!

Wasn't old enough to watch him play, but my dad swears by him and the team around him. He's off to Tranmere, I hear.

I heard Perez ruled out a move for Xabi too, which is good news.

Lavezzi...well, who knows? He'll probably go to United or Chelsea anyway.

Bad news about Perez talking with Villa. If Real grab Villa they won't want to let go of Silva. Valencia can't let two of their best go...

John Barnes was my boyhood LFC hero. Still is really

I think Silva maybe available if Valencia feel Mata or even the forgotten man Vicente can fill his role. And the way Mata played last season, Silva could be expendable. I still have a soft spot for Vicente and wouldn't mind him coming even though I'm no sure what shape he is in.

But if Silva fails I'd take Ashley Young, we should've went for him before his Villa.

Love Rafa's comments this morning: ''Mascherano has no price... He has a long contract and any club can forget about bidding for him. They can offer 40m or even 50m, we don't want to sell.''

Onya Rafa. Now say it again with Alonso's name instead...

Now that Real have spent 900 squillion on fruit loops I can't see Negredo fitting into anything but reserves duty if he goes back to Madrid. We might just pick him up now.

Also, Yossi interest from Barca. If Rafa gets a decent offer it could be buy bye Benny??

no offence to yossi but barca might be getting ribery and zlatan so i dont know where they would play him, i have liked yossi since his west ham days

Yeah, don't think he'd start very much. He'd be mad to leave for Barca!

Meh. Negredo can sit in the Real reserves or on our bench.

Good comments about Masch, but totally true. I hate how the only news we have is Rafa saying such-and-such is not for sale etc... Lets sign some quality players!

Will Rafa be able to buy without selling first ?all the news at the moment seems to be that the yanks are in the poo for $$$ and may not be able to refinance their 350 mil pound loan they took out to buy LFC in the first place, which is due to be repaid by july ? plus the parent company lost over 40 million pounds last year paying back interest from the loans.  Hicks may even have to sell his beloved Texas Rangers, which coincidently have had a pay freeze and aren't allowed to buy without selling first.

To reverse Steve Bruce's quote when he took over at Sunderland, you might be bargin shopping at tescos, rather than shopping at harrods this season

Just found this:

CASH LIFELINE FOR RAFA
Liverpool's owners have secured a 350million loan to refinance the club, after pledging more funds for Anfield... But Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has found a 200million buyer for his Montreal Canadiens ice hockey franchise.

Good news.

Also, rumour has it that Dossena is closing in on a deal with Juventus. Not sure how much truth is in that though.

Does that appease you though, what does it do for future transfer business this huge debt hanging over the club constantly which keeps racking up millions in interest, it's got to have an impact sooner or later.
