Still 5 aye boys. This ones for you El-kun,

Tempted to put that brilliant photo of Nando leaping in joy after his derby goal whilst your fans give him the finger/ chant "Who Are Ya?".

But, to be honest, it wouldn't really achieve much. Don't blame Torres for that awful, terrible, humiliatingly sh*te performance. He got frustrated after they scored and never really looked in the right space. But at least he's feeling it. Don't know what Gerrard's f**king excuse is. That was, to be honest, simply sh*te. Masch shouldn't have got sent off (the commentators even said it shouldn't be... Until after half time when someone in the studio had a chat with them) but boy, its getting increasingly hard to defend Rafa.

Apologies EK, haha just got in from a night out and couldn't help myself. If you don't make top 4 (which I still think you probably will) surely Rafa must go?

Chocnut, its alright, mate. That photo hardly hurts as badly as the result!! Yeah, I still have that (delusional?) belief we can get top four. But we need to start finding some form soon. Yeah, I think he'll go before that, although I hope not. Just don't see a manager who could do better than he has done over the last five years given all our financial problems. Rafa built this team, I don't want another "Five Year Plan". The man deserves at leastuntil the end of the season, in my opinion. And if we could even find somebody stupid enough to become our manager at the moment! I'll back Rafa to the hilt, but I know most people are running out of patience. And I'm still waiting for us to turn this all around.

Azevo- congratulations, mate. Yip, gracious in defeat...

I watched the first 25 minutes of that game, you lot were dominating, Kuyt and torres could have easily scored. I was very surprised to see the result based on what I saw

Never mind top 4.  The way we're playing, we're gonna be wondering in a few weeks if we can do enough to qualify for the Europa.....

Total misery.......

Oh dear, what a weekend for results. manure losing at Foolham, City win and sack their manager, Rafa comes unstuck at the bottom placed team, the bookies would be crying if anyone had offered this up.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

You should have stayed around, cos we started playing badly from about then on! When they scored, it really rattled us. Once we lost Masch, we were f**ked.

Yeah. Hard to know what to do. Just keep backing Rafa in my books. But we simply can't afford to keep losing.

Funny. The same people who stick by Rafa have no problem castrating Mark Hughes, despite his side performing above expectations.

Double standards much?

Three for me, and two for them.

Of course.  Hughes wasn't performing above expectations, otherwise they wouldn't have sacked him. He had more draws than the budget he was given (okay, not quite, but still). Plus, Hughes obviously wasn't the man for the job. I still think Rafa is the man for the job (You seriously do not overcome Barca and Madrid in Spain unless you are f**king good). Besides, he's one of my own! Why would I want that Manc Twit to do well?!

Without taking this to far into Citeh teritory {shudder} I thought Hughsey got shafted. He should have been given the season. We'll keep Rafa for now. Who knows what Christmas will bring...

They have unrealistic expectations. With the squad he had Hughes was doing well. Rafa's had more defeats than songs from the overrated Kop. What's it up to now in all competitions, 10? I think you've actually lost more than you've won now. Not like he hasn't had time either.

Fair play to you for sticking by him, but don't then go out and completely dismiss another manager who has had little time to build his squad and been faced with the daunting task of the most unrealistic ambitions in football from owners who would know more about which American monument is being attacked next rather than who to play in the hole in a 4-4-2 diamond.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah. But Rafa pushed us so close to the title last season, and if you don't think our squad has improved from when he first came in, then I don't know what has happened to the world! Oh, and I think it is 11...

Yeah, fair point. Hughes didn't get enough time to do, well, anything. Did he know of the take-over when he first joined City? He probably wouldn't have wanted all those (as you say, unrealistic) expectations that come with all that money. But if Rafa had even a part of that budget, we'd have Alves, Simao, Kun etc etc. Okay, they may not have become the players they are today, but we'd be an altogether different team. But yeah, fair point regarding Hughes. I just personally don't think he is in the same managerial class as Rafa (before this season!).

Fair point about the Kop, too. Its been awful lately!

surely torres and gerrard must be getting really pissed playing in a team that isnt capable of winning any trophies. they belong in a top team

I'm thinking Gerrard is. Bet he wishes he left for a good big club, like Chelsea! Imagine all those trophies! And all that support! He'd be playing in front of plastic flags and boo boys every week... He'd love it there! And Torres... Well, he'll be the next galactico. He's sicking of playing for people who love him too. He wants to join a filthy horrible club with fascists and wealth.

Meh. Hughes warrants abuse.  Besides, if I can't be biased and hypocritical, I'd never be happy! Over his time here, Rafa has achieved at expectations. It would be unfair to give him the 15 years we hadn't won the League before him as part of the pressure/expectations!

I'm good.  You need to work on your grammar, though.  ("People" is plural.)  Logic could do with some work, too, but it's best to start an education with the fundamentals.

Just read this article (written by a regular writer on RAWK):

We.

The socialism I believe in is not really politics. It is a way of living. It is humanity. I believe the only way to live and to be truly successful is by collective effort, with everyone working for each other, everyone helping each other, and everyone having a share of the rewards at the end of the day. That might be asking a lot, but it's the way I see football and the way I see life.

I know what youre thinking. Not another Bill Shankly quotation. Not another call to arms to the digital masses. Not another series of statements struggling unsuccessfully to penetrate the mind of those who have already made theirs up on our manager, our owners, our support and our football club for better or for worse.

It isnt as it seems, though.

I quote Bill Shankly, not because we have just passed the 50th anniversary of his appointment, not because Im making some convoluted comparison with our current manager, not even because he is our greatest manager ever (arguably).

I quote it because it is the best view on socialism Ive ever read. Its perfect. I dont claim to be a political expert but it is a view I subscribe to. It is people helping other people with collective effort and its doing so in football and life.

It isnt football Im really interested in. This brief exploration into the hefty concept socialism isnt about how Aurelio and Benayoun should be helping each other or how the attitude of our captain needs to change. Its about the fans. Its about life.

The socialism Shankly believed in was not just limited to on the pitch. He recognised that vital link between the players and the fans, between the city and the football club. They worked with each other and helped each other. The football club would not have 18 league titles or 5 European Cups if it wasnt for the city or the fans. The city wouldnt be what it is now if it wasnt for the football club. Thats unity, thats collective effort thats Shanklys socialism.

For me, an attack on our football club is an attack on our city. I listened to Portsmouth fans on Saturday urging the omniscient football deity to feed us and let us know its Christmas time. That extends further than football banter to me thats the people of Portsmouth mocking the people of Liverpool. Years of stereotypes against the city regurgitated through the medium of football. And its not just Portsmouth. Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester Unitedall the countrys major cities, trying to sh*t at us at a great height.

But our away end, no matter what sh*t we get, shrug it off because were Liverpool. We represent our football club and we represent our city.

As far as I can remember and Im sure the esteemed older gentleman of yesteryear (hello Chopper) can think back even longer Liverpool has been a target of ridicule and unfair treatment, both the city and the football club. The media and the mayor of dat der London may pass it off as self-pitying but thats bollocks. Anyone who says the media doesnt have an agenda against the city or the football club needs to look harder.

But we, the people of Liverpool and the fans of Liverpool Football Club, have never allowed them to hit that target. Weve united, weve stood up, weve fought, clawed, battled and rose up against those who tried to harm us. We are a special breed who looks out for one another. We try our best to uphold our traditions. We go away to European cities as football fans and we treat our hosts with respect because we want the world to know why we are different and why what the media and the rest of the country say is a pile of sh*te.

We.

We are in the midst of another barrage from the media and the country who believe that their word is gospel. Probably the worst Ive ever experienced. They are trying to humiliate our football club and humiliate our city. They are trying to humiliate the man who has done his best to understand the link between club and city since hes been in charge. They are trying to humiliate the captain of our football club and therefore an ambassador of our city. They are trying to humiliate the fans who watch their football club every single week.

It does not matter if you want Rafael Benitez to be our manager because at the moment he is. He is part of Liverpool Football Club, he cares about Liverpool Football Club and therefore he cares about the city and its people. There has to be a collective effort to help him he is one of us and we look out for our own because hes not one of them.

It does not matter if you want Steven Gerrard to be our captain because at the moment he is. He is part of Liverpool Football Club, he cares about Liverpool Football Club and therefore he cares about the city and its people. There has to be a collective effort to help him he is one of us and we look out for our own because hes not one of them.

We as a football club, and therefore a city, must take this latest bombardment and not let us become an easy target. Weve always fought against the sh*t weve been given and thrown it back twice as hard because were Liverpool.

Its more than football, its a deep rooted agenda against us and Ill be f**ked if were going to let them win now.

Show Shanks that it wasnt asking a lot and that his idea of socialism is still in this football club and its still in this city, even though the sport and society has changed a lot since then. At times like these, looking after each other is the only thing we can rely on and no matter what your personal belief is, weve won battles against them before with our unity, so stick together and get behind our city, our football club and those who have its best interests at heart.

Im not saying if we do this well win the title or well win the cup. Its much more important than that, its about upholding our integrity and not letting the bastards win. And to let Shanklys legacy and hope live on:

Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say, 'We're Liverpool'.
Brilliant stuff.

I got lost in that wall of text, El-Kun.  From the reference to socialism, I imagine that you're calling for the liquidation of the capitalist class and the redistribution of their assets according to public need, specifically in reference to those Texan Twits?  Fair enough, I guess, though the point could have been put more tightly.

edit:  The above is a bit flip.  On the topic of Liverpool's connection to socialism, I usually think of something more like this

No! Its more about the connection of the club, the city and the fans. Given that I've never been to Liverpool, perhaps its stupid to put it up. But I like the idea!
