Yeah Tyler, making some good points there. I think there's a potential we slide even further into the realms of 'midtable' (we are there already, I suppose). Losing potentially Reina, Skrtel, Suarez in one window, throw in Carragher... Big players to lose. Big, experienced players. Champion's League players, dare I say it.

We might play better though. It used to happen with Gerrard when he was at his peak sometimes. Other players step up, rather than just passing it to the 'star man' (and the 'star' trying to do it all imself). But we need to reinvest the money really well. And we need to be consistant. It's all very well looking good for a few meaningless games at the end of the season without Suarez- it's a different ask in games when we really need to win.

I've pretty much resigned to lose him. I just hope it doesn't drag on the entire summer.

He's entirely faultless for wanting to leave, in my opinion. I love Suarez, he made watching Liverpool fun while he played.

Latest unofficial word on Suarez is we don't want to let him go but f he does, he's worth more that Torres was. That's a bit of cash. Hope he stays but if not, spend wisely Mr Rodgers!

Seems like Reina will now stay....rumour has it that Suarez representatives are in Madrid at the moment. Hope we do get more than $40 mill for him. Read a write up on Aspas and people seem to rate him, which could be positive. Also heard that we could be in for Benteke....I hope not as he seems like a one season wonder.

Just wake me up when the transfer market closes. I absolutely hate it (mostly because we tend to be linked with sharke players- Alex fudgeing Pearce?!).

Also, three years to the day since we went into rapid decline by sacking Rafa. What a man.

Ha I always thought the decline started when Xabi left but yeah.

Just a hunch...Similar to Demba Ba.

There was a greta article in the Liverpool Echo by Craig Bellamy talking about his firts meeting with Rafa. He said that Rafa basically told everyone where to run, wher eto stand in every situation. Said he was tactically amazing defensivelly but didn't really like players using there mind and being creative.

Andy Carroll gone this week by all accounts

Hope so! Big bugger is dragging his feet somewhat! Article in the Guardian about the players we're supposedly chasing.

37 goals in 97 league appearances for Hoffenheim, 7 in 12 for Westham, then 29 in 54 for Newcastle

He played a lot of games in his wonder season :)

That's why Rafa is a winner though. It's why we won the Champion's League in 05, the FA Cup in 06 and made the final again in 07. We also played some absolutely breath-taking football at the pinnacle of the 08/09 season. It still makes me sick that we didn't win the league that year. Probably the closest we will come to the title for the forseeable future.

Also, seeing Roy Hodgson for England... Thank God he's gone. Rodgers isn't my favourite human being in the world, but I absolutely despise that owl-faced fudge.

Good luck to Carroll, wherever he ends up. Hope he can make a decent career for himself elsewhere.

Yeah me too bro, figure 08/09 was Stevie's chance to complete the career set. Sad that he's (probably) not going to. 2 champions league finals in 3 years, sigh.

Yeah, Gerrard more than any of them deserve it. Such a shame. It's mad when you think about that- I genuinely believe Rafa could win a European Cup with Dagenham & Redbridge.

So, those new kits........

Rafa is quality, his time at Chelsea has proved that for me.

Although Inter will always be a bit of a blip in his CV

Your new away kit is interesting.

Genuinely not sure which is worse. That one, or our 3rd kit.

And the state of the goalkeeper away kit... Oh dear.

Take off all the dark shark and it would look quite good!

Permalink Permalink

That's what's infuriating.
Has to red for home kit, and yellow or white away kit for me.

Permalink Permalink

Yeah white with red trim away, too easy. As for that keeper shirt.... I hope if Pepe leaves, it doesn't cause us any recruiting problems :)

Permalink Permalink

Haha, good shout that. Probably have to add on an extra 10k in wages for that!

Permalink Permalink

To be honest I thought you guys were being whingers about your shirts. And then I saw them.

Wow.

Who's designing these things? They remind me a little bit of 1997-ish rugby-league shirts

Warrior. It's so painfully embarrassing. And yeah, I tend not to get too angsty about shirts generally. But like you say, these are just mad. Haha good shout about the rugby league shirts actually.

They reminded me of rugby league shirts as well. Those stupid novelty ones the teams all do once or twice a season? Ugh.

Aspas confirmed, hopefully Andy Carroll is next.

I really hope that the Suarez saga gets dealt with quickly, not like when Owen and Torres left at the last minute. It does seem like we are on to this one though.

It's funny, I actually agree. Am pleased the club came out straight away and said "not for sale".

Yeah, we'll see how Aspas does. Hopefully well, but something different for our attack at least. And a mad bastard, which is always nice.

I really want Suarez to stay, although I still think he will leave. I hope we don't accept any bids less than 55m.

Permalink Permalink

Yeah if Real want him, make them pay! Quite interesting situation as there are a few top level strikers for sale at the moment. I was certain a while back that he was going but slightly less so now. He did the classic "I love the fans and the club" call which is always good leaving preparation.

Also..... I don't know much about Aspas but is he a good signing?

Permalink Permalink
almost 13 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

I wonder if players regret leaving. Torres for example seems to get a very lukewarm reception from Chelsea fans. I wonder if he misses having the absolute iconic status he had at Liverpool. Suarez could be the same, will he just be another striker at Real? I am aware that Torres has won a LOT of stuff since he left, I just wonder what goes on on their minds. Especially with the big egos the players seem to have.

Swansea were supposedly after Aspas so hopefully that means he will be as good as Michu!

I've always wondered that. Me, I genuinely believe Torres was forced out by the club. 50m was too much for Henry to say no. Heard various stories though. Torres can sit there and look at what he's won since leaving Liverpool and totally justify his move, especially looking at the enormous decline we've had. He probably tries to tell himself it was the right move. Deep down though, I think he would regret it. I'm an idiot though haha. I don't blame anyone leaving since Rafa got sacked. Set us back 10 years that did.

Celta Vigo fans will tell you Aspas is miles better than Michu, and they've had both of them play at their club. I think he'll just be a different option. I'm not overly excited, but not disappointed.

Pity we took that 50m and blew it! May aswell have taken it to Vegas. Yeah I'm sure plenty of players regret moving, especially to a super club like Real. Michael Owen anyone? Maybe they think they have to take the shot whilst it's there, maybe the money is just too hard to refuse. Makes me love Gerrard even more if that's possible haha I'm sure when Jose was courting him a few years back, the money would've been large. Then again, maybe he just didn't wanna get forced into a midfield with fat Frank :)

I saw a quote from Suarez and he said he was shopping in liverpool with the family and some guys came up to him and asked for a photo and he looked at them while the photo was being taken and they were doing biting poses.  He wasn't happy about "subjecting" his family to that.  How about your keep your gnashers to yourself and don't give people and the press ammo to shoot at you!  Pisses me off no end that he is sitting back making comments like poor me after all that he has done to the clubs image.

It was in Manchester.

To be fair, it isn't as if he planned to bite Ivanovic. I also don't think the club did fully support him in the 'racism' case. Kenny did. And some fans did. But the club didn't. Not really.

I can't turn on Suarez. He's boss. There's better ways to try to move, but at the end of the day why would one of the top 5 footballers in the world want to stick around for midtable Liverpool under a midtable manager? I can't blame him for wanting out. Good luck to him, I reckon.

Mignolet close? Does that mean Reina is going or is he the long term replacement......seems a little strange to me

Reina close to Barca = Migno close to 'pool. Football Mathematics 101.

Yep I hear that just thought Valdez? ( I think that's his name) was staying at Barca another year, therefore if Reina did go, he would likely be number two? I think it's a matter of time before Reina leaves....if you read the liverpool football rumours, there is quite a lot of talk about Reina to Arsenal. I would be gutted as I love Reina!

Also if Reina is leaving this summer, isn't it nice the way he is conducting himself in the press. I respect that as opposed to Suarez which is starting to get a little tiresome

Reina has also been here for 7 odd years. He's been here more than long enough if he wants to go and win some titles before he retires. I really rate Reina as a player and a man.

Not really seen much of Mignolet to be honest. If he's anywhere near Courtois for the national team he'll be alright though.
