reina off on loan to link up with Rafa.  Interesting to say the least.  Rodgers doesn't rate him?  Maybe wanting the starting position leading up to the world cup and he couldn't be promised that at liverpool?  If he goes and Mignloet gets injured it leaves us pretty skint on the bench in comparison to the other sides challenging for the top spots.

Have a boss time in Melbourne everyone!

Yeah. Sending Reina on loan makes no sense to me, to be honest.

Various reports of Reina being on 100k and Liverpool wanting to shed some of the wages as it was looking like Mignloet was going to be first choice.  Napoli only paying half of his wages.  Could be another Carroll situation, better for the club to have him out playing and holding / increasing transfer value with loan club paying some of the wages rather than having him sitting on the bench.

I read he wanted game time in a world cup year. But surely with Valdes, Casillas ahead of him and De Gea getting more and more game time is he likely to make the Spanish squad?

Also, as an Arsenal fan I'm very WTF about the current Suarez rumours. I love his ability but his bitey/racist incidents and his suspension still to serve make him a bit of an odd choice for us.

I thought the same, surely a tactic to show madird to hurry up with Higuian?

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

But the way I see it is that if we wanted to save money, why go out and buy a new goalkeeper for 9m? Replacing Reina wasn't one of the things we needed to do most this window.

If you wanted to win something, you would welcome Suarez with open arms. It genuinely amazes me people wouldn't take him. You'd be watching one of the top attacking players in the world play for your club. He's boss.

And why did we try and sign Bertrand? He's dreadful. Thank fudge he wants to stay at Chelsea.

My theory on Mignolet is that management must've been quite confident Reina was going so they covered base by getting a decent replacement early. It didn't eventuate that way and we can't have 2 keepers of that quality (and money) on the books so Reina gets moved on regardless. That's about the only way I can see that we arrived at this point. Sad. Reina is the man and one of the most stable parts of our squad.

Gutted bout Reina....one positive if he gets a decent amount of time and plays well, his value will go up when we sell next year. Still would prefer him to stay. I do wonder if he is actually quite keen to leave which some sites suggest.

I'm unsure about Suarez to Arsenal, it seems to be genuine interest rather than a Real Madrid bluff. He would do well wherever he goes, but I think he will always have controversy.

Rumours of interest in Soldado, I like the sound of that

Just read that Higuain has agreed terms at Napoli which may mean Real Madrid bid for Suarez

Have to say it was a pretty boring game, but wow, what a reception. I'm annoyed at Suarez and the way he conducts himself, he reminds me a little of how Torres was just before he left. Sad way to end such a great time at the club (well goals wise anyway).

Jr and I just got back. three words- Best. Trip. Ever.

We had a brilliant few days in Melbourne prior to the game. Just wandering around  , exploring pubs and the MCG museum- that's  an amazing set up .

The game- 96000 people singing " You'll never walk alone" at the start , delayed kick off for  a bit. I had tears streaming down while we were belting it out- some of you here know why ( think 1989).Shark , the best feeling I've ever had while we were singing.

I think there might have been a game there somewhere. My memory is a bit hazy but a few random thoughts

1. Gerrard looks very fit , got a tremendous reception every time he went anywhere near the ball and generally played very well.

2.Rodgers has a problem fitting Gerro , Allen and Henderson into the same lineup- not gelling at all. I do think Hendo will have a long term future though- less convinced ( yet) about Allen.

3. Wisdom will make a very good centre half in the future- was very assured.

4. Ibe is very promising- think Sterling but with more muscles.

5. Barini was crap

6.Brad Jones got a great reception when he was announced as the starting keeper.

7. Suarez- what  a cock. he had 96000 people singing his name , chanting " we want Suarez" over and over and when he did come on , looked like he really couldn't gave a shark. Yes , he did set up the last goal with some outrageous footwork but his whole body language spoke volumes. If that's what he's like if he doesn't get his way  then fudge off- we deserve much much better. El- Pistolero , we'll have to agree to disagree about him

still , I'm not going to let some petulant cock spoil what was a fabulous  trip for Jr and me. We may not ever get to do that again and for me to see the excitement on his face as game day came around was worth everything to me. I just wish more of you guys had been lucky enough to experience it ( Tyler etc).

What a fantastic trip. Melbourne was a sea of red. That crowd singing "you Will Never Walk Alone" will stay with me forever/ Just read on the LiverpoolFC website that it got BR emotional. I am still buzzing. The football spectacle itself was a bit tame, but that is what can happen in a friendly pre season. My thoughts on some of the players.

1. Skirtel is solid but cant pass more than 10 yards.

2. Glen Johnson is lazy and got skinned by a young Aussie no name on more than one occasion.

3. Sterling would be amazing if he had some strength to his game. Lovely feet.

4. Henderson - who. Was MIA and I don't think is ever going to come good. He is no Stevey G long term replacement.

5. Allen - Fairly negative and light weight. He really is a little bloke

6. Suarez - Like Jazz said. What a cock...................... Good luck to the Gunner's

Haha, fair enough. I won't call him a Twit, cos I still love him and I love watching him. But I'm over the whole saga. I wish he'd stay but he's reaching the point of no-return. That was embarrassing when he was avoiding the celebration after we scored. Just wish he'd move abroad if he has to go. He's a complete knobhead if he goes to Arsenal, and I'm pretty close to giving up top flight football if he goes there. Unbelievable footballer though, and I'm not sure where we go if he leaves. Moral of the story: don't have heroes if they're not Kenny Dalglish.
But otherwise, glad to hear you had a great time! Saw videos of the YNWA which looked absolutely amazing. Taking your kid will be a memory you share for the rest of your lives, so well in!

Just at the airport in Melbourne on my way home so will add my ten cents worth, although it seems pretty similar to what has been posted.

1. Melbourne was absolutely PACKED with Liverpool supporters, it was amazing. Yesterday there were just red shirts everywhere and the streets were packed. Took me a long time before I saw a single victory supporter, and at the ground it seemed about 90% of the crowd were wearing red.

2. The MCG is huge. We went to the ground about 2 hours before kickoff to look around and watch it fill up. The ground staff were also really helpful and obliging in letting us wander around. At one point someone came up to us and asked to see our tickets, we were two levels up from our seats and I thought he was going to tell us to leave. Instead I said we were just looking around and taking photos and he was more than happy for us to do that. Really added to the evening being able to go early and soak in the atmosphere.

3. You'll never walk alone was just phenomenal. Not much more to say on that one, just brilliant.

4. Louders cheers of the night were whenever we got a corner, as the section of crowd near that corner would go nuts for Steven Gerrard.

5. Football-wise things were predictably tame, but the player I was most impressed with was Sterling. Obviously just a pre-season match, but my word that lad can use his feet.

It's been a very whirlwind trip but I am stoked that I came, such an experience!
