Yeah would be a bit of a blow imo if he was to go. He's really versatile can play wide, good attacking midfielder that links with the forwards. Maybe he is too old for the owners plan? Look out stevie and carra if thats the case!
You lot looked better last year with Stevie G out of the team - Meireles seems to occupy the same space on the field and when SG was in the team RM wasn't anywhere nearly as effective.

Well, Stevie didn't play a lot under Kenny- which was when we started looking good again, so maybe not entirely fair.. Is fair to say we were sh*te against Spurs when Raul was out. Think he moves well, links play well, and is a really good player. Be a shame to see him go.

Sounds like you've brought him up well then! Ask him who we should get as a CB option... Is it just me but I'm not too thrilled about adam and downing possibly coming into the club. Downing doesn't exactly have fullbacks quaking in their boots about marking him.......and with adam I'm guessing that if Raul goes adam with be an ok replacement. And Aqua well ..... if he decides to pick up his bottom lip and stay, could be very interesting for Kenny. Do you only play Suarez / Aqua or Carroll / Aqua. Or a diamond mid with aqua behind, but then what do you but gerrard, henderson, Lucas, raul. Damn we've got too many centre mids!

No, not just you.We haven't spent 20m on Henderson for him to not be a starting player ,and I'm guessing as a centre mid.If Gerro gets fit , he's the other one.So where does that leave Lucas ( recent contract extension, great season),Spearing ( squad?) , Shelvey ( on loan?) , Adam (??), Aquaman ( not very defensively minded) , Raul( gone?)
After the season he's had , Lucas would be almost first pick for me- does an awful lot of unselfish tidying up an we still need a DM I think.
The other player I wonder about is Dirk. No way we're going to play 1 up front with 55m spent so where does that leave him?
The pursuit of Adam strikes me as unfinished business rather than a real need.I'd much rather keep Raul anyway.We need a LB , CB and winger more than Adam IMO.

Our targets have all been the best players (statistically) speaking last season, all on the young side and all capable of getting us through the next 12-24months where we can hopefully get that CL spot and start attracting the 'stars'.

I'm all up for squad depth but we seem to have the centre mid berths well and truly covered. We are lacking in other areas atm and we are still chasing adam.
Yep, like Bags I agree with you re the need for squad depth but I'm not convinced that centre mid is where we're lacking.
Interesting point re Gerrard and Carragher you raised ,Kop.I know it's tilting at the sacred windmills but it woudn't b a bad thing if they moved on.Experience is great but Carra's legs have gone-he showed that in the WC. Gerro's type of play means he can't keep going much longer , and ( waits for flames) I don't think he's got the game type or vision to drop back a bit and play deeper.

Agreed. I'm not against the idea of signing Adam or Downing at all. Think they both offer us something different to what we have. In saying that, I'd rather have Meireles than Adam if we had to pick one. Think we could see Hendo on the right, there's just no space in the centre of the park.
However, also think we need Mata, or someone of that calibre. This is gonna be the type of player that gets us back into Europe. Downing is a solid player and he does offer something different, but we do need that something else, that 'Suarez-factor', to really push on.
Fair point about strengthening in other areas (we must have a good left-back lined up...) though, hopefully we can bring Wickham in to replace Ngog (if he wants to go!) and bring in a first choice left back. Seems the CB role is more important than the CM role too, in terms of bringing someone new in.
But, we have to think Kenny and Damien know what they're doing. Although, if Comolli's standards starts slipping, sounds like we have a couple of kids ready to step up

Absolutely, there's quite a list to be siphoned off. Jova's at the top. If it wasn't for his wage demands he could have a good starting spot in a mid table side actually playing some footy. Same with Cole. Spurs or Fulham could be a goer there.
The likes of Poulsen could be encouraged to go home but don't see these moves happening until nearer the end of the window. The Euro window hasn't even opened yet! Still plenty of time.

Still don't know why you would even consider getting rid of Meireles. He's one of the only players in your squad I would take. If you pay �20m for Henderson then sell Meireles for any less you are frankly mad!
