compared to arsenal? woeful

our carling cup wwin over newcastle had not one first choice player (if you say walcott then you're leaving out nasri or arshavin)

Koscielny, Eboue and Rosicky are youngsters coming through?

Also, I'm surprised to hear that young Fabregaz (or whatever his name is - Iberian or Latin midfielder who came on for the last 20 minutes) hasn't managed to cement a place in Arsenal's first team...

i didnt claim they were all youngsters 'coming through' in our side, just explained that we have 2 completely separate first choice elevens capable of performing at a high level. Liverpool are far from that, let alone having "a lot of good youngsters coming through" as well. Aside from those two starting elevens, we also have wilshere, ramsey, JET, nordtveit, szchesny, lansbury, frimpong, watt, afobe and aneke - all of which i would class as good youngsters coming through...

and as for your fabregas comment, sorry i didnt specify but i meant starting elevens, as explained above

Mainly just having you on, mate.   However, that Carling Cup match was not a high level fixture - it had the character of Arsenal Reserves vs. Newcastle Reserves.

WIN  nice pass from Torres

Fking get in there! Stoked with that  Up to 12th we go, boys! Maxi, there's a good lad. Kyrgiakos was boss again, and Lucas played well for a lot of it, espesh the first half. Ngog did well when he came on. Great pass from Torres.

Chelsea at home next in the League; bring it!

^ They were tops.

Hopefully the improved support over the last couple of weeks will make for a memorable Anfield night against those other Blues. Get Gerry along for another YNWA rendition!

Torres still looks a bit off but wasn't it good to see him try some thing sthat he used to try, he's not far off from being back to where he was...Well done Maxi and Ngog too. I'm glad to see that Roy has given up on Poulsen.

over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Not a bad move bringing Poulsen on at the end though. If it had gone much longer Poulsen could have just bored Bolton into submission.

Gone by Christmas. The players have turned this form around, not Roy. Something has changed behind the scenes that has caused a drastic change in tactics and 1XI. He's on borrowed time. NESV don't appear to be the type to make rash decisions so I imagine they'll get the new board and top level in place and ensure they have a a solid couple of managerial replacements in sight before he goes.
It'll be interesting to see if they invoke his contract clause that can see him removed by new owners within 28 days. Bit under 2 weeks left to invoke it...TheKop2010-11-01 10:46:39

Henry will return to Merseyside from the US for meetings before the visit of Chelsea to Anfield on Sunday. Plans for the transfer window will be discussed............ Tui Billboard?

Roy: Morning John, we need to make some really big changes to the squad.

John: Your absolutely right, Roy. Your fired.

Been reading a few Liverpool rumour sites..."supposedly" Roy is goooone due this clause in his contract. I was just thinking though, who would be informing NESV of the abilities of Roy? KIng Kenny? Broughton? It would be interesting to know about who they are listening to
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
ok, so if Roy does go who are our options? Is there going to be anyone "better" atm for the club? It could go either way imo.

Anyways whats he doing coming out and saying that the club need five or six new players in Jan. Looking at what he has bought already I'd buy him a copy of four four two and give him a pair of scissors as thats the closest I'd want him choosing players for the club! Really irked me when he got Raul and he came out and said that he's been on my radar for quite a while! You're at liverpool now mate.........not fulham!

NESV appeared to have some good contacts in their approach and due diligence of the club, they're smart people. I just can't see them spending $300m only to let it fall through their grasp due to sloppy due diligence into the manager. When they bought the Red Sox they fired the manager after 8 days so I know they're not afraid to make the big calls.

Kenny as Director of Football should be having a large say and people like Purslow and Broughton would need to explain why they hired him in the first place, was it a short term appointment or a longer term. If longer term, why? (That I'm sure would have all been done before purchasing the club)

Pellegrini is still top of the list for me. He's already stated he wants to manage again and is hoping to find something by Christmas. I just hope, we're that something.

News coming out that Pelligrini been offered the Malaga job. A couple of days to decide whether to take it...

Damn hope not...

Dag Nam It..............surely it's better to get rid of Roy now rather than bumble along for a while and then cause more disruption? Still, the new owners seem on to it and I have no reason to doubt them....yet!
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Doh, sounds like he is signing for Malaga.

Not sure if Roy will be going so soon now, NESV will need to think long and hard about a suitable replacement. Who else is out there? Any national coaches we could nab?
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Where did you see that Kop?  That's a shame if it's true.

Maybe NESV are all about long term etc so they will just try and survive this year and start the planning from there?

I wonder what Gus Huddink is up to?.......as I say that name I'm not sure I am right. The guy who coached Aussie?

http://twitter.com/#!/ChristianMcr Guy that has some sort link with Malaga. He even admits Pellegrini would be better for Pool. Guess we won't know for sure until tomorrow.

Hiddink is coaching Turkey, only just started I blieve so I can't see us luring him away.

Johan Cruyff
Queiroz
Klinsmann
Mancini (if Citeh don't make top 4 his ass will be on the block)

(I'm just throwing names out there)

I would vote for Hiddink or Pelligrini. Although if Hiddink has just started in Turkey, he would potentially not be keen to break his contract although surely he would be keen to take over Liverpool.

I will probably get mocked for that but the club  right now would be a great place to manage with new owners keen on building and potentially backing a manager for years. Seem like they are interested in stability and long term success. It has worked/working at the Arse so why not with us?
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
NESV won't be making any drastic changes to management all by themselves, i think they would be getting a lot of advice from various people(probably including Purslow who appointed woy). So unless we lose the next few in a row i doubt anything will change short term.

They have said themselves they are new to the football business, and i personally would be pretty worried if they came in and started making drastic footballing decisions when they don't know what they are doing.

Been thinking about it this arvo and I guess if spent that much cash on a club that to be perfectly fair is treading water at the moment there's two things I'd want in place, no money spared. One - Club leadership (ie CEO, board etc) and Two - A manger that will see me through the initial tough stuff and create a platform for the players to build.

If 'that' manager just started at a club or national side I'd target them anyway. Better to have gone for the best there is than sit back and settle for second.

Let's go for Hiddink and Low, target Pellegrini. If he's about to sign for Malaga get on the blower and tell him to hold fire. Manuel, we need to chat!

Seems so easy sitting in arm chair, wearing my Red Shirt drinking a Calsberg...

EDIT: I should add that it's for those reasons above (and only those reasons) I'd be happy have Roy stay until Christmas on the proviso that we don't start sinking all over again. If we look like we're in trouble over the next month get him out and get Kenny in until we find the manager. I'm happy for some time to be taken to ensure we get the right guy.TheKop2010-11-03 18:59:35

Why? You still won't qualify for Europe next year.

Three for me, and two for them.

Good points my man. i do think that Roy will have to be gone by january though as NESV won't want to trust the direction of the team to a Manager who isn't going to be around. he also has been ok in the transfer market wheras they will want value for money
