Owen joins Manchester United in shock move

2 Year deal. Silly Billy

EDIT:
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson happily confirmed the deal saying, "Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question. Coming to Manchester United with the expectations that we have is something that Michael will relish"

Owen himself was similarly happy, and said: "I had just begun to talk to other Clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment's thought.

Actually, I think I'll take that 'Silly Billy' comment back. If he can stay fit he's going to give guys like Berbaflop a real run for their money. The real questions now are how and when will SAF use him? One to watch this season though...

Just WTF. Very out of a blue, but I guess he could be alright if he stays fit.

Even if he plays a back up role in cup runs/playing as a sub, he is still far superior to a lot of reserve strikers. If he gets fit and finds form he could be a real  bargain. He was fairly cheap by all accounts and his pay is mostly focused on performance.

The options are certainly scarce if we are after some massive name, but I think we will go after a young guy who is a bit of an unknown but with massive potential (Douglas and Nilmar are two Brazilian names that are being thrown about and some guy playing for one of the half decent French sides... I'll see if I can find the name).

The guy's name is Marouane Chamakh, and he plays for Bourdeaux. Rumours have gone a bit quiet there though.

This is great though - the president refuted claims Chamakh could be set to join Sunderland for 13million,

"What the f*** would he do at Sunderland? You have heard him say he will only sign for a big English club.

"I dont want to insult Sunderland, but I dont even know where they finished last season."

Unfortunately I don't think they will be selling Gourcuff...just yet

I don't understand why they would need to sell, French champions and CL this season. I could understand that the players would have put themselves on the shop window with performances to win the league.

Owen- fantastic piece of business I think. Nothing to lose, a hell of a lot to gain. He flops- not a lot of money is lost. He is quality- brilliant- we all know how good he can be. Hopefully it'll piss a few off over in Anfield. Perfect place for Owen to (hopefully) shine, and play his way back into the national team. I'm well stoked with it.

Huh. I'm keen, though I don't know what it means in all honesty

I don't get what people are meant to be buying - the strip hasn't been released yet, and a squad number that hasn't been assigned yet.

F**k the sh*t that some people write.

The articles all crap. If your only going to buy one maybe two shirts, why would it be a possible huge flop.

Their is no dissatiscation with his purchase at all.

This is just another reason why the Yanks should leave football news and broadcasting alone.

Where would your team's money come from though?

Most of our money comes from Merchandising in Asia. Hence why they go their every pre season.

Your club would probably be more hit without ESPN.

And your digs are becoming fairly lame.Michael2009-07-08 23:49:04

Those crafty yanks also seem to be behind:

I thought he leveraged the clubs assets to get loans to buy the club, so indebted the club around 660mill pounds. His arrival has not seen massive spending, compared to when we were a plc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Glazer_takeover_of_Manchester_United#Refinancing

He is just increasing merchandise/sponsorship and ticket revenue to service the debts.

And Man Utd revenue for 2007/2008 was 324.8 mill euro or at todays exchange rate 280mill pounds of which AIG pays 14.1mill per season. a difference of 265.9mill pounds (of which a large chunk will be merchandise sales)

The point is our finances win things... unlike, oh sh*t, Arsenal.

Now I can expect some comeback from Arsenal such as "Good old use the scoreboard trick"... or "Glory Hunter... blablaba"

Honestly man, just ignore him, it's way easier and much funnier too - just read his remarks with the smallest grain of salt possible and have a chuckle.

Speaking of chuckle, the Man U advert for the Asia Tour is a laugh, the lads are trying to learn baha Indonesian with heavy accents. See TV One Indonesia.

It is the end of our business, so all these stories about who were are supposed to be getting - forget it.

I was hoping for a classy CM/DM.

Good move though - announce you won't be buying anyone which means anyone we're linked to won't have the overinflated prices that some teams are paying. If an opportunity comes up they will take it though, I'm sure.

Owen got given the No. 7 shirt which I thought was interesting. May well play a big role this season.
