Another poor result. No chance of top four.

Sorry if this has been done to death earlier, but objectively (hah!) when you look at coming off the most successful managerial career and as a result one of the consistently biggest clubs in the world, is this season going to be anything but a struggle as new systems and personalities re-build the club?

I guess the real question is how many seasons do you give the Board (then manager, players and staff) to get back into a top four and/or silverware finish?

J82 -  you are spot on re 'transition' question; but I think the challenge lays squarely in the hands of the CEO/manager, not the board; to set the environment, tone, culture etc to get the results from the players.

As to 'how long'? It depends on how the owners see the state of the business - the degree to which lack of Champions league qualification affects cashflow, ability of club to attract, retain and get players performing on the pitch etc etc.

I think they'll give Moyes his head over Summer and one season from there to see some sort of progress to shape the squad in his vision.  A performance standard minimum would be champions league qualification probably.

We'll see if he has the vision and the ability to get the players to get the results.

More blood to be spilled before then though.

The point where we won the ball in midfield and Rooney chipped it to RVP probably tells a lot about Manchester United right now.

Only RVP and Rooney are in sight. The entire midfield is literally strolling on what should be a really decent counter. Meanwhile five or 6 arsenal players all drop back.

Says a lot really.

After watching the game today you can see why we are not in the title chasing position. Too many players not doing the basics well enough. Passing, movement, not tracking  players etc. A good result for us but not for Arsenal. They are a far better footballing side this season than we are.

Yeah arse would have been gutted to have lost that. Schezny pulled off a cracking save from RVP header but that was about all we had.
I know he headed off the line but why does moyes persist with Valencia? Absolutely no left foot whatsoever to cut inside, predictable movement, poor crossing overall, passes often go astray, average discipline. Yet he seems to be the clubs #1 winger and we persist in playing that way rather than Evra and Raphael as wingbacks.

3 points even if was against one of the bottom sides. The top sides struggled at home to teams at the bottom..

Can't ask for more than that.

I haven't had a chance to see the game yet Leggy but I know moyes started RVP Rooney januzaj and mata. Plus carrick and fellaini. Did they set up with mata as a winger?

Reading Ferguson's book at the moment, great read so far (only about 20% in)

Interesting comment in there about when he announced his retirement, saying the playing group was the most shocked, and that he felt for van Persie and Kagawa in particular because when they were signed they were told that he would definitely not be retiring any time soon.

Some really funny stories thus far. When fergie told the squad of his retirement u-turn in 2002, Giggs response was "Oh no, I've just signed a new contract!" hahahahahaha

Jock Stein was hilarious by the sounds of it as well. When Jimmy Johnstone was saved from drowning by the coastguard Stein said to Ferguson they shouldn't have saved him - "we'd have given him a testimonial, looked after Agnes, and I'd still have my hair!" hahahaha

Rather glad I had to go to work early today. Have not seen the game but by all accounts we were rubbish.

Don't watch leggy! It was dire. One shot on target. We had no idea when in possession. I can't write about it, it was so bad across the park. Moyes' selections, formations, tactics mystify me, but I've only been watching them for 39 years.

I did watch it this afternoon and the for the first  20 mins it was passable. After that it really defies belief. At least five of those players should not be starting. At least we have won a trophy this season which is more than a lot of other clubs above us will win this season.

Masochist! but i understand.
Ferdinand - definitely needed a rest after playing on weekend
Smalling is a fish out of water getting forward and crossing. He's a CB, but not a front line Man U CB.
Valencia - don't start me
Cleverly - see Valencia
Young - tried I guess

plus:
Carrick - I'm a fan but did he actually pull out of the challenge on the edge of the box?! What was he thinking?
Rooney - dropping back to defensive mid when Welbeck and Kagawa came on; the frustrations at ref decisions
Januzaj - didn't make match day squad?

Moyes - does he actually have what it takes to deal with this?

Just no cohesion. No fight. It galls me.

Hey Arsenal, tell me this. Your team is down 2-0 after the first leg, so is ours. We play Olympiacos at Old Trafford and you take on Bayern in Munich. Who do you reckon has the better chance of getting through?

Ignore him, he is just a dick.
I think your comments re the players is just about right.  Young for me should also go.

Munich are a touch better than Olympiacos. It might be your last chance in the Champions League for some time though, so make the most of it!

I think both teams have an equally difficult task, the way that both teams lost is very different and will impact the players differently.
The expectation is on your team to overcome it, the expectation isn't on Arsenal to overcome it. I'm always a big fan of being the underdogs when their is so much on the line.

Funny given you lot can't beat a side with one of our reserve players in it.

Three for me, and two for them.

Worst form in forever and you still can't beat us.

Yeah we'll have to console ourselves with finishing 20+ points ahead of you and qualifying for Europe next year instead.

And still winning nothing for the last 10 years.
No good qualifying if you cannot win it. I think we have won it 3 times, Arsenal will more than likely never win it in your life time.

Consistently mediocre.... ARSENAL.... ARSENAL.... :P

A much improved performance even though WBA are down the bottom. Still 2/3 players on the pitch today that I hope will be gone at the end of the season.

You'd be happy to see some of the interplay between Rooney, Mata and Fellaini. Kagawa sometimes seems to be two steps ahead of the opposition and one step ahead of his team mates...Must be wishing he was playing the All Whites again.

Eric Cantona questioned by the Bill after being seen picking his nose outside Queens pub, Primrose Hill yesterday lunchtime (see latest www.ukyahoo.com)

"At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive...

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

Groundhog day. Sigh.

Can we score 3 or 4 goals v Olympiacos? Not holding my breath, but forever hopeful.

Not playing like that. Just awful.

Not that L/pool were that great, we would not have scored if we had played for another week.

Sounds like the Board is possibly starting to feel the pressure. Personally I would feel more confident if I thought I could see some semblance of a plan emerging...but sadly I cannot. Of course winning the tie against the Greeks would help; outrageous optimism i know.

How good (an importnat) was de Gea's double save (both with feet) on 40 min? The best reflexive shot stopper in the world?
