Kondogbia and Flamini is OK

again there is no need for strikers and wingers until other areas are addressed.

angst at Arsene. 5 minute fans , who for the main deride other clubs for exactly the same financial irresponsibility they then want Wenger to jump into.

Unless pundits are happy to take a side undefeated through the top flight if English football they should know their place.

Have to disagree Foal, I think fans world wide are just demanding Wenger spend the 70 million that Gazidis said is there to spend, and fill the glaring gaps in our squad, as simple as that.....

I think your attitude on this is poor**.
If we can't sign the right quality players, would you rather we signed average players and reduce chances for youth to come through? Wenger has always made room for young quality players, look at where we are now with Ramsey, Wilshire, Walcott, Oxlaide Chamberlain, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Szy.
Looking at the squad, he's emptied out dead wood and loaned out promising midfielders and defenders. The guys intentions are to buy. But if they don't, and they recall some of those players I'm going to be happy. Because I'm not in the room, and I trust that Wenger and Gazidis have the ability to continue to grow this club, and that they will have chosen to not sign people because the standard we want (Benzema, Di Maria, De Rossi***) are all unavailable. And don't say it's about money. If you have a player worth a bucket load of cash, and 4 years on his contract you won't necessarily sell. Because the reason he's worth that money is his ability to play football, which is your clubs primary ambition.
Stop wanting to be able to foot it in a circle jurk with United/City/Chelsea fans on who has the biggest names.
Also, f*ck it, I'm just mad. We have big names. Arteta, Podolski, Wilshire, Cazorla, Koscielny, Sagna, Walcott, Giroud are all quality enough players to be bragging about. I see those names and I'm confident going up against City/United/Sp*rs/Liverpool/Chelsea.
Additionally that signal of intent wasn't necessarily for you, that's a signal of intent for players and clubs around Europe to know that it's game time and Arsenal won't be looking to loose any players. It's as much a stay the f*ck away from our lads as it is a promise to invest.

sorry for winding up , it was not my intention to offend

blaming Wenger for any transfer misgivings misses the point. As soon as someone said "we have x amount of millions" it f***ed the window. If Arsenal show any interest in any player it's a license to hike the asking price.

this is no way is an excuse to deflect attention away from the issues at DM, CB, GK

need to knock over Fulham, go Arsenal.

Yeah, in saying Wenger needs to spend the money I completely agree on the part where you say Gazidis effed it up by spouting that. The tragic part is, by not spending (so far) has compounded the pressure already on the club.

I am super positive by Flamini looking at coming on board, we get a solid squad player for free and still have 70 mil to spend lol.

Fulham will be a tough one, prediction 2-1, with Giroud and Cazorla scoring

Very happy with the overall performance, was a follow-on from Fener.

Some really really good passing moves throughout the game, getting ourselves out of tight spots with quick touches, finding space, turning it into a counter attack, we did it all day and created a lot of great opportunities. And the three finishes were excellent. Good to see Poldi getting in on it, bit of rubbish talk about him leaving - but if we want to challenge for a title  we need players like poldi on the fringes of the side, adding that strength in depth.

Back four was very solid, and Szczesny made a couple of great saves when needed, particularly that double one, that was awesome. He also came and grabbed a few dangerous balls, a rock all day.

To add, young players mentioned - most were bought for the first team. Apart from Sanogo, there has been none of that either.

Yep awesome result, well picked Brumbys!

Podolski got a ton of confidence from those goals, and Giroud was Giroud.

Cazorla tracked back all game and took the ball out of really tight situations with his turns and spins and got the team on the move again.

The whole starting 11 played and gelled really well, other than taking the foot off, we were a bit weaker with Wilshere, Monreal and Sanogo, but good way to continue Monreal and bring Sanogo into the season.

I'm saying we have gaps, and I'd rather our youth/developing players fill them than panic buying. The targets being discussed (Benzema/Di Maria/Krul/Flamini/Cabaye/Kondogbia) are not panic buys. If they come off they'll be good additions.
But I refuse to be disappointed if we don't splash the cash because this isn't fifa, you can't just approach a team with a wad of cash and demand a sale. If the deals don't happen I trust that Gazidis/Wenger did their best with a multitude of factors influencing the outcome.

@Bullion: here are the players mentioned and the age they signed for us according to wiki

Gibbs - 2004 (aged 15)

Walcott - 2006 (aged 17)

Wilshere - 2001 (aged 10)

Oxlade-Chamberlain - 2011 (aged 17)

Ramsey - 2008 (aged 16)

Jenkinson - 2011 (aged 19)

Szczesny - 2006 (aged 16)

In football terms these guys were all young, and we gave them a crack. Jenkinson/OC/Walcott were all a bit older, but Gibbs/Szy/Ramsey/Wilshere are real young guns.

And who doesn't sign young players with a view of getting them into the first team?

Bale, will not play for Spurs.

Not sure it'll mean too much, more cheap bragging rights. Given the enormous coin Spurs have flung about once again it will be hard to get the team to gel this early. Alternately our side is weakened through injury and lack of focus in the transfer window.

what odds on 5-2 for a thirs season running :)

Feel like if we don't get another CM before then we'll get overrun by a very good Spuds midfield. It only worked against Fulham because they're a crap side, imo - Ros/Cazorla/Ramsey isn't a great midfield trio. I don't think Wilshere/Cazorla/Ramsey is much better either (though it looks good on paper)

Ox and Walcott were starting at Southampton, as was Ramsey at Cardiff. You guys beat Man Utd to sign Ramsey. Not speculative sign kids with lots of potential without knowing if they will make the step up, these guys were there abouts already. Anyway, there must be some kids in Europe that you guys could sign at the very least.

Still don't understand why we didn't sign up Capoue as soon as Arteta got injured. Arsene was tracking him a couple years back and he's been the Spuds best player the last 2 games. Far better for our needs than Cabaye.

It seems like Cabaye is still on the radar. Do you think Wenger doesn't plan on investing in a DMF? Maybe he prefers to have only attacking/passing midfielders in his midfield that he'll teach to defend?

7 days left to go...should be interesting.

I'm starting to wonder Brumbys. After the success of Arteta as a holding mid, and seeing Capoue and other DMF targets pass us by while we bid for Cabaye, perhaps Arsene doesn't want us to play with a proper beast in midfield anymore?

Either that or he's holding out for Diaby's return... I jest ;)

20 million is a bit much for cabaye personally, 15 might be good bit of business, Capoue was 8 i think arrrrh. Personally i think we should go for a DMF that can also play centre back. We really need dmf, centre back and striker.....Di maria would be handy but if we dont get the other 3 there isnt much point

Arsene took things rather seriously this morn, only Kosc, Gibbs and Rosicky rested. Poldi did his hammy too, not sure how bad, but he's probably out a cupla weeks at least.

2-0 victory, 2 goals from Rambo, the 2nd one was really nice, clip here (but will probably get taken down pretty quickly);

Ramsey's second was all class! Skinny you called Sanogo getting the time. He didn't look great, he appeared like he's trying to prove a point and force a goal, which won't work out!

Wilshere getting targetted at the end there, not ideal...

Given Podolski is out I'm guessing we'll start with this for the derby:

                 Szy

Sagna   Kosc   Mert   Gibbs

       Ramsey  Wilshere

                Rosicky

Walcott   Giroud   Cazorla

In saying that I wouldn't be surprised if we did sign Flamini this week, that he started him in that midfield to beef it up a bit.

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

There are rumours the Flamini deal is already sorted, but that they'll announce it straight after we make a signing that actually costs money - so arsene doesn't get stick for signing two players on free transfers.

Bizarre really - if we actually cared about PR surely we would've done other things differently in this window.

Also a rumour that Juan Mata's dad was in the director's box this morn.
