Unlucky. I was injured for today, so weird (and infuriating) watching from the sidelines. Howling southerlies and rain didn't brighten things up either. It's good having a spectator's perspective on how goalkeepers play though.

A question for the rest of you fine keepers out there. What kind of relationship do you have with the other keepers at your club? Personally i've always enjoyed good ones and never got close to a Jens-Almunia type situation.

Three for me, and two for them.

Likewise, I've always had great relationships with competing keepers. You should be helping each other out and giving each other advice rather than bagging their performances or ability.

i ment why punch the ball when you can catch it.

it was an intresting game intrested to see 2ndbests take on it

i generally have had good relationships aswell, have trained with 1 or 2 f%&k wits tho. i coach alot of junior gk's aswell so i guess that teaches me to get along with others at my club

we were very very poor in the first half.  Couldn't get out of our own half and couldn't string two passes together.  Could have easily been 3 or 4 down at the half.  No doubt that was our worst 45 mins in the last couple of years. (mind you the second goal had already gone out before petro pulled it back and shot).

second half we were a lot better and i think we probabily had the better of the half.  Having said that we didnt create too many clear cut chances.  More half chances than anything else.

That whole situation is a joke.  you are professionals.  Its part of your job.  Suck it up.

I've never had any problems.  I think most of us realise that being GK is pretty tough because if you arn't number one you can't take another spot in the starting XI

My team only has one keeper - me! We are struggling to find a reserve in case i get injured, oddly enough I think i damaged my wrist in our 0 - 0 yesterday.

i know what you mean, it has always been hard for me to find another keeper of any quality. the best thing to do is find a young keeper if you can coz they are keen to learn and dnt mind sitting on the bench, especially if they play for a college

Seems to be similar across all clubs.  Two years ago I was playing double headers for the 1st and 2nd team for about about 6 weeks.

I have to agree, this lad kept Lower Hutt in the game vs Upper Hutt. Especially in the second half. Upper Hutt went shopping at the RSA for their keeper. LOL

Which James are talking about? Ali James or James McPeake, I saw some of this game both made a couple of very good saves in a game that was of poor quality, from what I saw both would have got MOM award for their team. James Mc 2 very good 1 on1 saves from Andy Le prou.Better watch  out radioman he'll be coaching you soon

Beat Upper Hutt yesterday 1-0 in a tight affair, had a fair bit of work to do. Managed to nab the MOTM award so did something right. What was Petone's goal like 2ndBest?

I think after the 4th time he fell over rolling over the ground i went over and gave him a good verbal.

The goal. was from a free kick on their left hand side.  Was whipped in towards the far post.  One of our defenders went up to header it,  but missed.  Ball bit the post and fell straight to thier strikers feet about 3 yards out.  Was a pretty good free kick.

dont you hate it when you play well, but still loose/draw?

we drew with wests on sat and i played pretty well, saved a couple of 1 on 1's, caught all corners and crosses, sadved a wicked penilty.

i fuken hate conceding!!!!!!!!!!!

Question ? do you(as goal keepers) take all goals personaly?

Totally, we lost 3 - 2 on saturday, I was awarded the MOM for keeping the score to that level, apparently it could have been 6 or 7 against - personally i disagree, had the own goal not been score we would have drawn, which I wouldn't have been happy with. Even with the impossible to stop goals I get grumpy about.

Yes. Blame myself for pretty much all goals.

Three for me, and two for them.

I used to take them all personally. Now I've realised that letting each goal get to you will show weakness to the opposition. Just got to get up and get on with the game. Keeping on thinking about each goal takes away your focus from the game being played in front of you which will lead to more mistakes and more goals being scored against you.

I try not to worry too much about the goals at the time.  But i do a bit of relection of the goal after to work out if I could have done anything more to prevent them.

Yer i guess it kept us in the game all the way up until the last mintue.  But unfortunitly it doesn't mean much afterwards.

Best thing to do.

If its defenders fault at the time of conceding and you know it do you give them a mouthful straight away? Know I do...

at the end of the day i guess you're opnly going to be able to stop 80% of shots on goal, there is always going to be that odd shot that noone can stop, or the two on one situations where the defence has let you down.

I try not to. Most people know when they stuff up so I don't see any point in giving them a balst.  My psycho outburst are directed to the team in general.  eg come on lads, we need to track our players better etc

Yeah losing your cool just shows the opposition that you are unsettled. Need to portray a composed and confident character as a goalkeeper. It is usually the collective's fault for a goal instead of an individual.
