Newshub reporting it this evening as a straight $4mil fee, rather than that number being the add-ons. Is that just simplifying it for a broader audience, or is the deal simpler than was rumoured (either because the add-ons are very easy, or because they don’t exist)?

Fabrizio Romano states it's a GBP2m deal, including add-ons.
spent some time filling out the very bare Alex Paulsen wiki page, partly so Bournemouth fans know what they're getting - any key info I'm missing out on?

That strong Futsal background (his brother Adam good enough to be in the NZ Futsal team), explains alot about how he got so good with his feet. How proud and excited his family must be all feeling at the moment.
Adam with his own big football highlight this year, likely off to the Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan (14 Sept – 6 Oct 2024), in what will be NZ's first appearance at a Futsal WC.

Shaun Gill said in the press interview that it's the fifth largest transfer fee in A-League history and the biggest fee for the Phoenix "by a country mile"
I can’t believe people are bitching about the transfer sum. $1.8 million cash plus a potential of $4 million total is great business for a young keeper from an A League club. Alex is a great talent and had an excellent break out season. But he is still very young and very inexperienced for a keeper. Bournemouth are taking a punt that might take years to come to fruition. I would expect he will be loaned out to one of Foleys clubs. Probably Hibs. But when you look at the keepers already on Hibs books you see some very experienced keepers. Alex would be at best third choice keeper. He could go to FC Lorient in France. They have just been relegated to Ligue 2 and will be shedding players. But even in the second tier it’s unlikely he would be the number one. It’s exciting times for Alex but could spend years on the bench before he gets his chance.
So the numbers being talked about are the transfer fees to the club, right? What does someone in Alex's position get himself? I read an article about 17 year old kids in premier league club academies getting 50-150 thousand pounds a year. Not sure how accurate that is but it was the best info I could find with a quick search. Obviously Alex's position is a bit different from that but maybe it gives us some idea. What do people who know about this stuff reckon Alex could be earning himself?

That's crazy money for a child who might amount to nothing. Average UK wage is only about £35,000 p/a.

It all depends on what they see his rol as in the team, to inbuilt yearly wage hikes, or a wage hike after so many games etc
I would think it would be in the region of 5000 - 8000 pounds a week to start with.
If he manages to crack the team earlier, nothing to stop him renegotiate the deal.
You can't just re-negotiate an already signed contract because you've progressed ahead of schedule. He'll need to wait until it's up for renewal to do that. That's why he will have needed to negotiated well up-front. Of course, he would likely be nervous about being too assertive for his first Bournemouth contract, not wanting to squander probably the biggest move of his life. Still, I'm sure he'll want for nothing financially.
In terms of the fee paid to the Phoenix, I'm assuming that's all considered taxable income? Though given I'm sure they're operating at a loss then they probably won't lose too much of it.
You cant just pick and choose which laws to follow. Sure Id like to tape a baseball game without the express written consent of major league baseball, but thats just not the way it works.-Hank Hill

Contracts can be renegotiated at any time... but admittedly, he would have to probably far exceed their initial expectations to warrant being able to force that to happen.
For example if he ends up being the number 1 after an injury to Neto etc and ends up making the spot his - he would have the right to ask for a contract more reflective of his role.
Players have break out seasons (generate interest) and clubs renegotiate contracts to keep them happy.

Sounds about right. The make good money before 99% of them get released on short notice.

yep, also important to remember it's a relationship and both parties should want the other to feel valued.
Even at the cash constrained Phoenix, Chief has said the players will get a pay bump as one of the reasons why we have to let Zawada go
It’s weird that no one has talked at all about his ability to play out from the back.
yeah. And they disproportionately talk about penalty saves.
Michael Burgess just said he’s “good with his feet” and then went on to describe in detail why it was such a big deal that he saved Maclaren’s penalty. Going on about how JMac has scored the most penalties in aleague history etc etc.
Great save but it was a pretty shark pen, any keeper who guesses the right way should have saved it.
The way Alex skins attackers and plays an inch perfect pass under huge pressure is world class. No one at this level is doing anything close to that. Very few even at the highest level have those skills.
I was reading on one of the Bournemouth forums and someone (when commenting on his highlight reel) said with a pass like his they should put him in midfield.

The lack of activity on said forums is quite interesting, shows just how small of a fanbase they are in comparison to more established clubs. Paulsen's thread on the main Bournemouth forum has just a lick over 5 pages - Stamenic's thread on the main Coventry forum, just four days old and still a rumour, has 22
Lots of arguing and off topic subjects on there however - reminds me of some people here 😀mrsmiis

Alex Paulsen got us going with a blockbuster move to AFC Bournemouth. That’s already been written about at length – one thing to add is Bourney have since revealed their retained list and two goalkeepers, Darren Randolph and Cameron Plain, were amongst those who are leaving the club, while Ionut Radu was only ever there on loan. That helps clear the path for Paulsen to have a crack at the main squad. Assuming they don’t sign anyone else, it’ll be Neto, Mark Travers, and Will Dennis that AP’s competing with. At least one of them will probably go out on loan. Potentially Paulsen... though Travers or Dennis might feel they’re ready to be starters somewhere else.

Historically it was a small club like Brentford. Both have done well to get where they are but will they do a Bolton longer term and head back to obscurity in L1/2?

I still think we let him go far too cheaply. Look how good he was two days ago.
He's mentioned in the following article about a new team mate who's yet to play for his national team but cost Bournemouth €15 million even though he's not even 20:
