He's had just 55 League One minutes across 7 different matches since coming back from national team duty. I wonder if Argyle would look at recalling him to send him somewhere else, it's not looking good for him at Mansfield given he can't dislodge the geriatric strike partnership they've got going on up there.
Plymouth are dead last in The Championship. No doubt heavily focussed on trying to avoid relegation.
Waine's loan deal with MT is for the season. So Mansfield would need to agree to terminate the loan early? They might like to keep Waineo around, given yes Gregory is 36 & Akins 35 - so always a chance of those over use injuries.
MT (9th, 37 pts) likely ain't good enough to push for the promotion playoffs. Though they are currently only 4 pts behind Reading (6th). But by April MT could well be safe from any threat of relegation. They are currently 17 pts above the drop zone. So MT may rest the geriatic duo later in the season, and Waine's mins may increase??
His contract with Plymouth ends this year. Doubt they will re-sign him, as he's not currently doing enough to either play in The Championship or help them try and return there from L1 next season.
It might be he finishes the season at MT, and then as a free agent tries find a new L1/L2 club.

Unfortunately, he's a bit hamstrung, in that he can't leave (and play) for a third club this season. The maximum is being signed for three clubs, but only playing for two, so given he's played league matches for Plymouth and Mansfield, he can't really go anywhere else.
His only way around that would be to go to a club playing a different season (calendar year (2025) vs split year (2024/25)). Maybe if he's really keen for a couple months in Sligo... but probably not.
Article 5.3 of FIFA's player transfer/status regulations: ' Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs. As an exception to this rule, a player moving between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in official matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs. Equally, the provisions relating to the registration periods (article 6) as well as to the minimum length of a contract (article 18 paragraph 2) must be respected.'
FYI - he played 8 mins for Plymouth against Hull City this Championship season back in August 2024.
So looks like that cameo costs him any chance of a move elsewhere in the UK this campaign. Sit tight at Mansfield and hope for injuries, or later on Clough resting his elderly attackers as MT can neither be promoted or relegated.

Saw someone say something about Non-League teams not counting towards that 3 club rule the other day. I have nfi if its true or not, but that could allow him to get some game time if recalled even if its a low level.

Ahh jeez, I'd forgotten he had already played some minutes for Argyle this season. Yeah, tough spot for him at the moment
Waine at last gets some good playing time, off the pine at 65 mins (3-1) as Mansfield lose 3-2.
Hopefully he made an impact. Mansfield (12th) do look to be heading towards that mid table finish, that hopefully sees them rest their aging attackers as the season draws towards a close. For the moment they are still only 5 pts off the playoff spots.
He got cut down in the Penalty area late in the game and Gregory scored from the spot.coochiee

....there was a 3-2 defeat for Mansfield Town away to Cambridge. Ben Waine got 25 minutes off the bench which is the most he’s played in a game since November... and he made it count by winning the stoppage time penalty that Lee Gregory converted to give Mansfield a slight chance of a late recovery. They didn’t find another goal to equalise but at least Waineo brought something substantial to the table after a run of small cameos that passed without event. He’d put a tricky header on target prior to winning the spot kick too. He’s always got big energy, just gotta show a little productivity as well in order to win over the English crowd.
On in the 84th min in a 0-1 loss. Crawley Town had just scored a few mins prior, to take the lead.
Mansfield (12th) with 4 losses on the trot, and like Bindon's Reading their playoff chances are slipping away. 7 pts off the playoff spots, but still 13 pts above the drop zone.
Waine off the pine at 84 mins (2-1) in a 2-1 loss. Mansfield's form is bad. 5 consecutive losses.
Shrewsbury in lastspot, and went down to 10 men at 34 mins, when Mansfield were 1-0 up. Stags are 12 pts above the drop zone, but this bad patch of form continues will be some nerves appearing.
Apart from not giving Waineo a run, is there anything in particular that has set off this poor run?
I think Gregory their main striker has had a few injuryissues. All their recent L1 losses have just been by 1 goal. They also lost 2-0 in the FA Cup to Wigan.
They ain't the biggest club in L1, and came up from L2 last season.
They probably don't have huge depth, and would have hoped that any players they bought in like Waineo would have contributed more I imagine. I mean they were coming up from L2, and him down from the Championship.
He needs to keep grinding away, but yeah a drop down to a division to L2 or even the National League might be best for him next season. Still young.
Mansfield have cut his Loan short - Transfermarkt says he's back at Plymouth. Stags signed Jordan Rhodes from Blackpool because they don't have enough old strikers
Gutted for Waine, hopefully he can force some minutes with Plymouth as they are doing 💩 anyway
Actually unlike the Nix we've had a very productive transfer window and are turning our fortunes around eg. 2-1 win against WBA just gone and a draw away to Sunderland up there.
Argyle have Liverpool coming up. I'm sure Ben will want to get on for that game.
Supporter world's best and worst football teams: Waikato/WaiBop, Kingz, Knights, Phoenix, The Argyle, The Whites & the All Whites

As a fan of a fellow relegation battling team in the championship, that win against West Brom scared the shark out of me! Bloody tight at the bottom, at least 6 or 7 of us are in the running to go down
Mansfield Town have just messed him around. Not much for his development there from what we can see.
Pity they left it so late to release him tbh. He could have been back at Argyle and putting himself in front of the new gaffa.
Too late to get another loan now also.
Hopefully the new manager is a better fit and Ben gets some chances.
He can't be loaned elsewhere. Already played for 2 clubs this season (Plymouth & Mansfield).
He got some reasonable chances with MT start of the season, and Gregory has had a few injuries. Waineo obviously just didn't do enough there.
You suspect Plymouth will let him go in June, even if they are relegated to L1. If so hopefully he can find a club where he becomes a starter. Might be L2 or even National League for a season.
Feel him, his agent and other confidants like Chris Wood, Bazeley, David Ball or whoever - need to come up with a plan that gives him a good shot to be a L1/Championship regular in 2-3 years. These leagues are full of guys grinding out good solid careers from their mid 20s into early/mid 30s. Look at Mansfield. Their strikeforce now aged 27, 35, 35 & 36.
Waine is only 23. Still plenty of time, and maybe dropping down a few divisions, and hopefully getting a 20 goal season should be the aim.

Bragging rights Tzanev as he gets a cleant sheet with Northampton winning 1-0. They go 17th, and are now 8 pts clear of Crocombe's Burton Albion (21st) in the drop zoine.
Despite Mansfield chasing a goal(s) Waine just rides the pine.
