f**k we made that harder than we needed to!! guppy and franklin were dissapointingly slow for mine. broom was good when he was out there, batting confidantly, taking singles and taking some of the pressure of taylor, something franklin failed to do.
how bout piggy though! simply wonderful, and those 2 4s from bondy!!
what started the thing with that w**ker mitchel johnson?

what started the thing with that w**ker mitchel johnson?
He dropped a shoulder in to Styris after the first four, and then (I'm guessing) Styris told him where to go after the second one and Mitchell got 'all up in his grill'.

On reflection, I have no problem with 20/20 cricket per se. My problem is the over exposure of all limited overs cricket (both 50 and 20 overs). If you take this Aussie series for example, there are 7 limited overs games and 2 tests. If you took out 2 limited overs games, we could have had a 3 test series, which to me would be a whole lot more satisfying. Some (all?) 50 over cricket needs to be reduced to make room for the amount of 20/20 being played, rather than reducing test series.
I am very afraid for the future of cricket when the ICC Future Tours programme runs out in the next couple of years.

I agree with you Mike but I think the problem with 3 test tours now with Aus is that their collective guarantees a 5-10 day break between any 2nd and 3rd test which just extends the tour to long. Already a cramped tour, first ODI yesterday and the 5th a week on Saturday.

Williamson scoring runs against Wellington today, thinking I might pop down to the Basin to have a look at lunchtime. Specialist number 3 in form, would you throw him to the wolves in the tests against Australia?

Too young for a start. Too inexperienced. Why can't we just have a settled test team for once anyway?
If this kid is any good perhaps give him a go against one of the lesser nations or in one of the ODIs. Straight into test cricket and against Australia too is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Ill give you the too young and probably the too inexperienced but he isn't that much younger than Guptill was when he made his ODI debut (yes the Windies in an ODI and the Aussies in a test match are very different games)
Im not necessarily saying pick him but he is a specialist 3 which we don't have. We played Peter Ingram their against the Bangys, im reasonably confident Williamson would go as well there as Ingram will.
Can't see him getting much of a go in the ODIs this year with the World Cup next year, Ryder, Guptill, McCullum and Ingram have the openers and 3 spot locked up. Maybe take him to the T20 world cup but that isn't really his game so wouldn't do him much good anyway.
The way people talk about him and the runs he is scoring isn't dissimilar to what Taylor was doing at a similar age and part of me thinks it is almost a waste not utilising the talent that is out there.

I can tell you that it is a matter of when not if for williamson, he is probably the classiest young player we have in NZ right now. He is in the same class southee was when he started but i think it's still quite debatable whether southee was thrown in to early as well. I can't wait to see williamson in the nz team but i don't think we should expose him to early, make him work for it.
Fuck this stupid game

alot of guys are getting picked young and having to learn their trade at international level which isnt ideal but when they have learnt all they can from our domestic cricket what else can be done.
i think we all know the gap between our domestic league and international is quite large so we need a link for our young talents.
ive always thought trying to get some to play in the aussie domestic leagues would do a world of good but cant see them wanting to give up spots for their youngsters. maybe a nz team in their comp? would that even be feasable at all? im not sure

Williamson will be a Black Cap one day, but not yet. He needs to make it hard for the selectors to ignore him by scoring alot of runs, like Taylor did before his call up.
Age doesnt really factor into it for me, Ingram forced his way into the side by getting alot of runs at first class level, despite probably being considered too old to start his international career.
Wonder if we might have this as the top/middle order in 2-3 years, Guptill, Watling, Williamson, Taylor, Ryder, Broom, Vettori.

Who could be the ???'s ideally under 25 now... any on the horizon? McKay could be ok but he's all but 30 so is far from young... what young quicks/shieks have we got coming thru?

The kid McLennagham from CD if he can overcome his injuries, the left armer that spent some time with the Black Caps earlier in the summer (real young)
Wagner is the main one though. When he completes his 3 years he will be knocking on the door straight away I imagine.
And Doug Bracewell from CD

how good is he?
Vettori and Fleming were good enough.
I can't really say that I think our batting line up is settled. Just a bit TINA and just about every other option having been tried (How, Papps, Sinclair, Bell, Vincent, Cumming, Marshall H., Marshall J., Flynn). They feel they've got to give the current lot at least as much of a chance.
