Uni Gossies 0 - Marist 0
Thanks Marist for a thoroughly enjoyable game. I think the standard during the 90' was amazing, more like cap 1 than cap 2, really.
It was an open, fast-paced, technical and physical game and a draw was the fair results. However, either team could have won it. Gossies had the upper hand in the first and parts of the second half, but Marist had a really good patch throughout the 2nd half and came close to scoring (with our CB saving a goal on the line).
There was lots of fair play and even pleasantries (e.g. both teams naming an opponent player as man of the match), and it was nice playing in a better atmosphere than last week where we just got kicked out of the game.
I had the match winner in the last minute of play but as usual was ignored and our LM instead took a shot..oh well :)
Look forward to the return leg.

The 3rds would throw the game. Not something that a club would like to admit to but i think any club would do it if put in that situation. Or you could decide after the result whos who.
Hopefully it doesn't come down to that but if it did I wouldn't be so sure that the game would be thrown. I know a number of players (myself included) that would not want to do such a thing, I'd rather not play that week.
Anyway for such a scenario to happen a) we would have to play each other in the last game or two in the season, b) The 2nds would actually have to be in with a chance of promotion and c) The 3rds would have to have nothing to play for.
I think after the Tawa A result today though you'd have to say that promotion is looking very doubtful for them anyway!

Having played both Cap 1 and Cap 2 there is very little difference in the leagues except for the top couple of teams in Cap 1. If you finish top of Cap 2 or win the promo match you deffinatley deserve promotion
I also played both divisions but I think last year was tougher, not that I'm complaining. Unless you finish 1st, you won't win the promo match, cause the other team will stack. That's how we ended up in cap2 in the first place.
actually, we ended up in cap 2 by having a woeful season AND by losing the play out match vs IBU who were stacked.
Greenie, re: your last point...mine is the biggest, bestest club anyway!
I think you will find this has changed now because of what happened with certain clubs stacking teams for last years playoffs. This season Captial Soccer have brought in new regulations - not sure of the exact change but someone more in the know could fill us in?

I dont see how you could enforce this though, you should be allowed to bring players down in any game. Tawa shouldve just stacked their team last year.

Cheers mate. Yeah was a cracking game, really enjoyable.! Could have gone either way, but i think a draw was a fair reflection on the game.! The league is ridiculously tight now. 2 points separating 6 teams !!! Madness. Looks like the team that can get on a good 4-5 match run might be in business come the end of the season.
Great atmosphere at your clubrooms after also. The league boys in the changing rooms certainly know how to party :)
All the best.

Having played both Tawa teams now I can say they are fairly closely matched, especially because if our 2nds played our 3rds at my club im prettys sure the result wouldnt be in doubt for the 2nds (no offence stop out 3rd team, im sure ur doing great in your respective league).
Having said that, the stop out reserve team that played Tawa B earlier in the year was no where near the quality of the team that we have been fielding for the last few weeks (hence the better results), so based on that info I would have to say I think the Tawa A boys are a bit better and were unlucky in the weekend not to get a point as both teams missed some pretty good chances and obviously Tawa A missed a peanilty which never helps.
Good luck for the rest tho Tawa A, ur a good side.

I think you'll also find that the current Tawa B side is stronger than the one which beat Stop Out 2 nil earlier in the season.

I played in the Tawa B game then went and watched the tawa A game. Both games were completly different - Tawa B playing olympic was played at very slow pace and tawa b held possesion for long periods (Could have something to do with the fact all olympics players are over 30)
- Tawa A game was much faster but the ball was turned over every 5 seconds and tawa just kept lumping the ball back to stop out.
As someone said earlier its going to be a team that can string 5 or 6 results in a row that will take it.

Yes Saturdays game was a bit messy( Tawa A v Stop Out) but this tends to happen when two young teams refuse to allow each other time on the ball. Similar game with Varsity 1sts the week before. But atleast there were two teams out there trying to play at pace. And I rate that Tawa A side. I wasnt fortunate enough to be around for the Tawa B game but look forward to the seccond fixture.
All this talk of the division being inferior this season compared to previous years seems odd to me as iv come from cap 1 as recently as last season and to be honest have found the quality of cap 2 pretty much the same. From what iv seen of cap 1 this season it seems to have got better if anything.
Is there even a logical reason as to why the quality would have dropped? It's not like players are leaving the game in this current climate. The two clubs iv been involved with this year have been spoilt for choice with the amount of quality young players.

Bob-sled
Yea that may be, but when you have gone from loosing and drwaing with the bottom sides to beating the top sides, I think its fair to say that stop out's reserves are the most improved team in the league at the moment and the young players this team have are getting better every week with help from the rotating 1st team players that drop down.

Think the Tawa A team is slightly stronger having played both sides. Not by much. Will be interesting what way it goes when you meet each other!! Wouldnt bet on anything with the way the league is going this year

Good 3 points for us yesterday. Crucial 3 points given the nature of the league this year. Every point and every goal looks like it is going to be crucial come end of the season.
Slow start for us, Tawa could have had one early on however we rode our luck a bit and dominated the game from the later stages of the first half. Two well worked second half goals reflected the flow of the game.
Plenty more twists and turns left this season. Going to go down to the wire :)
Does anyone know the draw for next week?

Fair play to Marist. You deserved the 3 points overall however I thought it was an even game and if we managed to put one of our chances away early on would have been a different story. We struggled with your height and I think that was the biggest factor in the game!

Probably pushing it a bit to say you scored two well worked goals. Pretty sure the first was a goal mouth scramble following a corner and we gave you the 2nd when our keeper kicked it straight to your striker.
Good luck to Marist until we meet later on in the season!

wont the draw be the last remaining games of the round?

yeah, Steelo is right.
Mike, there is only one team each team hasn't played, so that's the draw for next week basically.
With four teams tied up on 14, it's going to be interesting to see who'll have the consistency to keep a decent average till the end.

We have played in this league for quite a few years now.. to be honest.. i think that the standard has dropped. Its the older guys in each team who are the standout players, but there are a few good young players coming through which is good for the game, but not enough. Both Uni teams were average and the standout players were Graeme (ex Tawa) and the other Silver haired fox, both could play masters! Tawa A i thought were a good young sidea couple of fast midfielders, who wont be in this league next season for sure! but it was the old heads who won the game (Piney etc). We played badly against Tawa B, and a comment on here before said we were all over 30.. More like over 40! we had 9 players over 41 yrs old in that game! Only our goalkeeper and Bertos were under 30! That was a bad week for us and we only had 7 players confirmed on Fri night!
Goiing back to players coming through, its dissapointing to see Upper Hutt and Stopout second teams playing so badly, they really need depth in that club and some young (decent) blood! We havent played Marist yet, but assume its the same great bunch of lads from previous years!~ Same with Wgtn Utd, a couple of young guys, but the older ones won the game for them.
Been dissapointed with the standard of reffing this year, seems the best ones from last year have gone to the higher grades, but both teams have to play with the same ref! But seems they are more interested in applying the rules to the menial things rather than the actual game!
This league is anyones, a couple of wins for anyone and your right up there! Should be a good run in and hopefully we can stay up, and try to get some of our young players starting next season. We have some great local (Greek) talent coming through that should put the club in a great position and finally let us old boys drop down to a level where you can roll subs! 90 mins is getting harder and harder!
Thats my two cents worth! Oh and Good luck to Chris Christie (Olympic) and Addy (Miramar) who are representing New Zealand in the World Masters Cup in Thailand later this week! Thats another player gone for a few weeks!
From the loudest mouth with the limp on the touchline! Blocker!

Blocker I agree with you in regards to the refs.
I played Cap 2 a few years ago and I dont think the level has dropped, seems the same to me. A little less physical maybe, but there seems to be more sides trying to play football, with none of the teams we have played focusing on long ball.
Obvious troll on the comment that both Uni teams are average, while we are not fantastic I would say both sides have been solid, the gossies have had started the season well, and the 1sts have conceded 3 goals in 7 games. In saying that there is still a long way to go in the season, with no one being out of contention yet, going to make for an exciting second half of the season.

looks like a very interesting round.
Marist have a tough assignment at Crawford Park.
United may have a chance to improve their current form, but watch out for UHC.
Gossies haven't won in about 4 games and will look at doing their best against Stop Out, who could still come away with the points.
The Tawa Derby will bring excitement to all the football fans in the Tawa-Granada area :D
Karori have a golden chance to resurrect their season at home against University.
Hopefully, with a break in the weather, all these games will go ahead on Saturday.
