Random question. As the Nix are playing in a Pro competition in Hong Kong, how are those players that were transfered to Wgtn Utd allowed to play? I was of the understanding that they are no longer Nix players, secondly if they are back to being Pro's do they need to stand down before they play amateur again? My last question is, are Nix making a mockery of all this? It seems they want to have their cake and eat it. Me personally i think its a joke!

Don't think 7s is 'professional' so no stand down, there wasnt a stand down last year when a few of the United kids went.

Yes Nix are having cake and eating too. Especially if Sail, Gulley and McGarry resign next A league campaign

It's quite apparent Nix are taking view that they will go to any means to have their young players play anywhere anytime they want. I think they're being bloody minded about what it takes to develop players - I'm ok with that principle; but think they crossed a line in revoking a fully pro contract temporarily. Once you are a pro you fight for a place. If they're not ready to do that, they shouldn't sign them as a pro.

And frankly, given the season was done for us some weeks sometime before the end of league, Merrick continued to play players who were leaving, retiring or out of form instead of giving young players on pro contracts a go - yet the club now cries "they need more game time". Go figure.

many ways to skin a cat i was told at school.

SO

pro to am has stand down period correct.

if you play youth in last games then stand down starts from that game.

if youth not been playing then leave him on bench and he can start playing am football sooner .

90 min top A league football at end of season then long time between any games or AM status?

no A league football and whole of off season playing reasonable level of football every week?

i know which one i would pick as a player and coach towards the end of a season with no prospects of silverware.

think forward not just the now and think how to use the options in the rules to allow you the best out come without breaking them completely.

BUT

i still feel this could and should of been sorted better and options looked at to benefit the whole of football in the region.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Sorry mate, but that statement can be compared with being just a little bit pregnant.

You either break the rules or not - there is no grey area or allowance for a partial break - it is all or nothing.

If the Phoenix and CF had "thought forward" this could have been resolved a lot earlier - not three weeks into a season.

ol'sole

if they have broken the rules while playing your club then take the case to NZF

my mention of breaking them completely  is more the spirit of the rules not the the detail sorry if you thought i was agreeing with breaking rules.

if they have broken the rules then they should be taken to task otherwise why have rules?

Footballs controlling body's are doing too much  behind closed doors that we might find the rules have been changed like the special 2015 capital football rule that NZF suggested they include.

more talk needed in the open air of the day.

Enough of the pro talk on here huh......great game between Miramar and Okympic, really enjoyed watching that. Both teams attacking and a decent crowd too

Although NCR won quite easily yesterday in a one sided game, it could have been even better (for NCR).

The Hawkes Bay Today write up on the match (hard copy - not yet appeared online) shows that NCR had 22 shots on goal - WU had 1.

NCR had 11 corners, WU had 1.

I guess one day things will get better.   I know, I'm not greedy, I just like a lot.

Yeah.  We were trying to update subs and scorers but the numbers for the 'mar side in the programme bore no resemblance to the players.  It wasn't until Harris ran past us at one point that we worked out it was him who had come on.

Should be noted - No fault of the programme makers though as they didn't have the correct information.

I'm sure they have a gentlemens agreement that the Nix will resign him but there is nothing stopping that being broken and McGarry going off somewhere for bigger pay and nothing Nix would be able to do about it without a contract. A promise wouldn't hold up in court

A promise is in fact, a legal contract, and enforceable.

sort of. I think in this case you could say the players have acted to their detriment based on the promise that they'll get a contract next season. Especially if they turn down a job, or a paying gig elsewhere.

And there ends my very limited knowledge from that one contract law paper I did 8 years ago.

Just been looking at Petone's record in the Central league. They are on track to concede 80 goals this season. Only Red Sox (18 losses from 18 games) in 2006 have done worse (84 goals) since the MCL was re-introduced in 2005. And they were 'saved' from relegation the year before by Havelock North dropping out.

I'll be honest. I haven't followed the career of G Little too closely. But isn't he becoming something of a relegation specialist?

You might be right actually. He also won the league with Miramar according to Teh Googles, so my recollection/assertion turns out to be woefully inaccurate.

Perfect Forum fodder.

Why we still talking about contracts , the league is hotting up . We had some cracker games in the weekend. Olympic v Miramar was the outstanding game of the round . We need more supporter feedback from all central league games.

Thanks for the video! Was the programme actually printed as Western Suburbs? Looks like Napier's finishing has room for improvement. Who is responsible for teaching the dark arts of defence to the children at the academy? They need to attend their lessons.

Just read back over quite a bit of that thread, brought back a lot of memories and lots of names I haven'd heard for awhile as well. Some hilarious stuff in there. Also reminded me that we played on some rubbish pitches back then, Centennial, Newtown, Wakefield, Karori etc were all horrendous! Didn't help that some of us were average at best on decent pitches. Bring back Hugo!

Fuck this stupid game
