Question has to be asked...

No nails on Takapuna pitch at first Sunday morning inspection, so placed on pitch sometime after that.

Was this a totally random act of mindlessness or deliberate attempt to sabotage the tie from being played on that specific pitch ? Timing would seem to indicate deliberate sabotage.

If deliberate sabotage of fixture why ? Clearly if that pitch not playable fixture would still have to be played at alternate location - or was that the intention if it was sabotage ?

Which leads us to....

Who could possibly have something to gain by having the game moved from Takapuna ?

Not neccessarily true. NZF press release said that it was more detailed pitch inspection before the came that picked it up. Nails could have been there the whole time, and the first inspection only checked to see if there was grass and no water on the pitch.

and given this is a police matter, people need to be careful what they post.

Absolutely could have been there whole time...and could also have been placed by well meaning but hopelessly confused aliens...

Given the incredible coincidence that it would require for the placement of nails to have ZERO relationship to the fixture being moved to that ground I will defer to Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Can we say who we think did it? If so why not?

Three for me, and two for them.

The photo that the Chatham Cup twitter account posted was of very clean nails. There had been heavy showers of rain all morning. If they had been there for any length of time there would have been mud on them and maybe even the beginnings of rust, so I'd say they had been there no more than an hour before they were found, probably less.

The scary thing is they could easily have missed some. Especially after a few rain showers. They could be covered with silt, buried or in amongst the grass. I wouldn't want to play on Taharoto until they have been over it with a metal detector.

I think you mean - "If not why not?"

Makes me think you did it to frame yourself - acting all guilty like that!

I'm sure Inspector Gadget is pulling surveillance footage from the local Mitre 10 store as we speak...

You can accuse people if you want Buff, but if you're wrong it's likely to be defamation. If we get any complaints from people that they've been defamed then we'll operate a notice and take down policy, and if they persist then we will use the ban hammer.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

We found half a dead possum in the middle of Happy Valley once.

Pretty sure it was left there deliberately too (assuming the possum didn't eat its own lower half).

Chucked it in the bin and made a mental note not to slide tackle in that general area.

Bunch of soft-cocks up in Auckland obviously.

A great continuation of the events of the CUP this year. Look out for a swift appeal I think.

Picks for next round in the Northern region:

Manurewa v Melville United
Birkenhead United v Hamilton Wanderers
Onehunga Sports v Ngaruawahia United
Waitakere City v Bay Olympic

Three for me, and two for them.

I'm going for:

Manurewa (Melville are ugly, they scrap-out victories but never look convincing)

Extra time (Wanderers likely to be missing Gurjeet Singh, and don't have another tailsman, could edge it in Birko's favour - my game of the round)

Ngaruawahia (Upset pick, if Federico Marquez is healthy then Narra can beat anyone, and Sports aren't superb)

Waitakere (I guess this could be classified as an upset too, I don't know what I'm getting from either side but I'll go for Waitak's new players to add some spark)

The Cup is a Fickle Lady - Love the drama.

I got the impression it was not his exact eligibility - but 4 guest players were used?

Both Blew. His (in)eligibility made it 4 guest players used.

We've got both sides of the story on the podcast this week. Out tomorrow night.

I don't know which camp I'm in with this whole Kaltack thing. I think NZF didn't asked the questions they needed to before granting excemption

I think they've been hard done by if this is the full facts. Seems NZF issue is that he wasn't in the country when the application was made? Is that a law somewhere that you have to be in the country?   I thought I read somewhere else that he hadn't transferred out of NZ when he went back overseas and he was playing there illegally and that was the issue.

If all facts were presented to NZF, and there was no deception, and NZF said he was ok to play it seems a mean to kick them out.

It all come down to the requirement that for an overseas player to be reclassified as a local, they need to be living in NZ continously for 12 month.

Basically, rapa told CF/NZF that Brian went overseas to play international football. That is within the rule of living in NZ continously. On that basis, Capital Football approved the application on the assumption that Brian had been living in NZ for the last 16 months (he was first reg with Rapa in April 2012, but didn't play a game for Rapa until this month). And was subsequently approved by NZF.

Once the appeal from NCR came in, further investigation found that Brian was overseas for most of that time (as evidence by him playing illegally for an O-league team).

Thus, if this information was provided to CF/NZF, the re-registration wouldn't have been granted.

So for me, the question is, should Wairarapa have known that the player was living overseas.  Given the player arrived back in the country on 14 June, played on 16 june, and the application to have him re-registered as a local player on the 12th of June, then I think the answer is yes.

Surely it is Wairarapas responsibility to provide NZF with all information necessary to make a decision. It should also be in writing. I also doubt NZF would have disqualified them if they had been given such information in writing.

Allegedly

Yeah I have to admit, I have no sympathy for Wairarapa. At the end of the day, if they had a team, they would not need all these imports.

Grumpy old bastard alert

Is there anybody in the Wairarapa team that played Junior Football in the Wairarapa. Honest Question
