I wanted to touch on this point. I read on here that he got tossed a couple of weeks ago too. I also saw him at 3 Kings and he got dragged luckily before he got tossed. I also understand, and I could be wrong, that his girlfriend is a photographer/referee. If its true she is a ref, does she not not talk some sense into him while shagging his brains out?? I've seen him a few times and he has got some talent if you can find a game system to shoehorn him into but Jesus he would have to be the biggest coach killer you would ever meet. Does someone not pull him aside and say to him "Hey dickhead, while you keep carrying on like one, you aren't ever going to be anything more than a premier league footballer who might play national league depending on which coach wants to put up with you in Waikato"
I'm sure he is a nice guy off the pitch but watching him play, he has to be in that 'complete twat' category that Liam Mulroiney has made his own all these years. At least Mulrooney was coachable at ASBP level...

Got up to watch PNM V NPR. Pretty decent game with both teams looking to move the ball. Marist looked more dangerous in the first half and hit the post at one stage. HT was 0-0. Start of 2nd half saw NCR come back into the game. But Marist went ahead with a low cross that was plamed into the path of their striker. Game ebbed and flow and I felt there was always going to be another goal.

Eventually it came after about 75 minutes with NCR equalising. After that NCR looked the stronger side. Winning didn't come and it went into extra time.

Just before half time in ET, PNM rightfully went down to 10 with a second yellow for a lunging tackle. Only one clear chance for NCR in the 2nd half where a long range shot was tipped onto the bar and over.

With about 2 minutes to play, corner to PNM was cleared off the line with a hand. Player sent. Penalty awarded. Penalty is rubbish and easily saved.

Ref blows fulltime minutes later. 2 average penalty from Bevin and Perverley see PNM win 4-2.

Random fact...last 4 winners of the Chatham Cup have beaten Lower Hutt on the way to the title.

Must be up there though. Only Olympic worry me.

Three for me, and two for them.

Birkenhead and Olympic are the strongest up here left. Olympic have to get past Waitakere first.

I would pick Birkenhead to go far unless they run into an Olympic or Miramar (not sure who is left from central) Those sides generally have experience as well as talent. Birkenhead have talent but lack experience and also that pain of having lost one to have the hunger to win one.

Miramar goooone. Olympic the last standing side from Wellington.

Mmm maybe JV...

Glenfield tried that approach and failed. Think if Olympic beat us it would be down to simply being the better footballing side. But we'll see.

Talking about Wellington here too, not scared of Bay at all.

It's pretty hard to out-mongrel Olympic for anyone.

In reference to both comments, I have never seen a Wellington Olympic team ever take a backwards step. They will kick 7 shades of shit out of you first before losing (and not to tar them with a brush that they can't play - they can).

The best option is to stick a man on JHM and just ball deny. Even if its a box and 1 man mark job on him, I would pick a guy and tell him his sole job is to be up his ass tighter than TP and deny him the ball regardless where he goes. Shut him down and I think Birkenhead are probably out of the game.

Glenfield are pussy cats. Holloway is the best footballer they have and they play him out of position in the midfield effectively negating his talent. Mayne has vanished a couple of games and Hitchens will kick anything that's about 12 inches so they have a laughable midfield. I have heard about the game you speak of and I understand it was more down to a shit ref than anything else.

Surprisingly, Melville are the Waikato team who progressed, hopefully they have a last 8 game within driving distance, maybe they can draw Waimak or PNM or the likes.

Waimak are yet to qualify for the 1/4s and since they have to get past Cashmere Tech, I'd say they probably won't.

I'd agree re Birko. I think the 4 best sides in the quarters are Birko, Cavey, Waitak/Bay O and Wel Olympic.

From a Dunedin fans PoV with no club affiliation, anything for the Cavy train at home is a positive and if they can draw someone like PNM or Melville, they'd be big favourites to advance to their perennial exit point, otherwise known as the semifinals.

Its a shame they don't just stick to football. They can play, so why use all the rest of the shit. The off the ball stuff was horrendous. They need linesmen and refs who can address it to help them change. It just detracts from their game.
Watched the game. How the Olympic player didn't get a card for the stomping and head butting was beyond me.
If they are so good why not leave it out  and change their reputation of being of  "Dirtiest Team" in Central League. Because they certainly lived up to that last night.

Yeah you really have to take the good with the bad with Jones. He's capable of some superb runs, the goal he scored yesterday was very very nice. Ususally what happens is that he gets a yellow for some overcommited challenge when most other players would have given up - you can live with that. The situations where a problem arises is when frustration sets in, like today, when they conceded two quick goals, I saw the second yellow coming from a mile away.

It's tough to say, I've seen him dragged before when on a yellow, obviously in yesterday's game it was always going to be hard to drag off the guy who's been doing all the running. That's HW's main problem tbf - discipline. Their whole left side never loses out in a 50/50 challenge, but they also don't know when to stop charging around like manaic workhorses.

the one thing that I can't stand is players milking injuries to get opposition players sent off

Hobson-mcveigh spent more time on the ground faking injury than actually playing yesterday. The incident that got Jones sent off he kicked out at jones which led to Jones retailiating, then rolled around the ground faking at injury

Jones deserved to be sent off but so did Hobson McVeigh. The same thing happened in Hamilton and he conned the refs both times.

He was overheard admitting it to his teammates that he milked the incident in a attempt to get Jones sent off

Yeah that was so noticeable, I don't blame him for trying to aggravate Jones but to be lying there on the ground for ages when all Jones did was shove him over and give him a wee nudge was pretty poor. You've jogged my memory of the Hamilton incident, in that instance I think it was Franchini who stupidly lashed out at JHM, who then rolled around in fake agony. Wanderers need to control their discipline if they ever want to win a league title.

To be fair, Lower Hutt probably should have gone down to 10 men as well after that bobsled challenge.

Allegedly

I'm not much a fan of many Auckland sides, but if we end up with a Birko v Waitakere match at some point I hope that Birko win, I really don't want Waitak do a Central and win the Cup with a completely different side to that one that started the league for them. I know it's all within the rules and all that but it just feels somewhat improper. I think I'm being too idealistic

Wait for the Bay Olympic protest!!

Im sure they'll find something to complain about

How much have they spent in the last 10 years and still cant win Chatham Cup

And yes N-Bomb you are being idealistic!!!

Depends on if their club wants to be know for their football or having the dirtiest players!

I don't see why you are bothered. Waitak have Krishna who goes to OZ soon, Turner, Butler and Myers. Everyone else in that team wouldn't make another side in the Prem league. Bay O have Pritchett, Coombes, Cuneen, Wylie, Joe Edwards, Maxim and Byron, A much more all round talented side on paper than Waitak but Waitak's moves going forward were more superior. Same old story, if you keep the ball, it will pay off. The U20s should have done that. I rate Boyd but he's not a centre forward. In qualifiers, warm ups and WC he has scored one pen. Strange positional selections, that's for sure.

Not sure how that post morphed into an U20s post there....

Ideal draw for Birko... Palmy North or Melville at home.

Talking about keeping the ball. It was only early hours of this morning I was watching this not happen .... that's why Buffon. Just comparing with what Waitak did to win.

Melville away. Should win but who knows in the cup. Hope we get a shit load of support down there.

One of these three teams is going to the final four: PNM, Cashmere, Waimak.... Unbelievable.

Cashmere Tech are a decent side - why do you say that?

Melville v Birkenhead

Palmy North Marist v Cashmere/Waimak

Waitakere v Onehunga Sports

Haha nice.  Cavvy have been close to making a final so many times in the past decade.  If they can get up and beat the Greeks perhaps they deserve to win it - that's a BIG if away from home though.  And on the Cavvy curse:
2006 Semi-Final Western Suburbs 4-0 over Caversham.
The final?  Won by Wests AET on pens over Eastern Suburbs.
So if Welly Olympic do beat Cavvy, it's not all against them.
