Ouch

Mar 0 - Miramar 0

Fair result - I dunno, could have been 3 all aswell. Miramar play a fast physical game, and their keeper can kick it about 80 yards, it's ridiculous

Lower Hutt didn't because they realised they were unable to assemble a squad that was capable of competing on that level, so they departed Premiers knowing that just keeping a team in there and stacking it week in week out was not doing anything for the development of the club and youth players. Well that appeared to be their reasoning anyway. Carney might be able to shed more light on that

Don't think I can to be honest, I only played half the games that season. It was hard having 2 player coaches. The results weren't there fault though, as without them playing the scores would have been worse and relegation confirmed sooner than it was.

Personally, I did sense a reluctance to release players to play in the 2nd team last season, but as i'm not at the club anymore I'd best not comment further.

And yes Mason to Stop Out, good on him I say - he gets nothing but abuse from his previous club coach, often more abuse than was warranted.

Exactly my point. It can't be a reserve league. As for smithy's point about it hardly being an injustice, ask Marist 2 years ago how they felt after getting relegated after Lower Hutt and Wests stacked their teams.

Boo f**kn hoo. Maybe they shouldve played better? Every club has every right to play whoever they want in any of their teams. I mean it makes sense, if your second team was in the relegation zone, why wouldnt you boost the squad?
Against the rules?

Allegedly

They might not think they are, but they are.
You have a strange conception of what a reserve league is.  A reserve league is specifically for the reserve teams of another competition.  What we have is a bastardised system where reserve teams are allowed in a "Premier" competitive league.

Agree. It's not reserve as not all teams in central play in prem. That alone places a different biase. Safe to say if you have team in cap1 and prem then that is more of a reserve type relationship than central to prem which are very different competitions both in region and format.

Watched Wests vs Stopout today. Pretty streched game but i thought stopout were worth theyre win.
That Micheal Fifi was class throughout the match, saw him scoop a player in the corner and Stopouts right back didnt quite catch his name was class also running at players for fun.

Very tight at the top of the table, by the looks of things.

If you're playing in Cap Prem, then you have to put up with the reality that some teams are going to be able to bolster their squads with Central League players.  That makes it more of a reserve grade than a premier competition.  Capital 1 exactly the same.

There are loads of alternative sets of rules and structures that would make Capital Premier a truly separate competitive league, but they aren't in place.

Sets up a fantastic Chatham Cup match this weekend between the two top of the table teams.  Worth a visit to Harcourt Park to watch.

Are you still on about this? And if in a few years there are no reserve teams in the league will it then still by definition be a Reserve league? It has to be one or the other.

Smithy, let it go son.

Cap 1 is actually a 3rd team league - bc the mar has its third team playing in it. or is Cap 2 the third team league bc wharf has its 3rd team in that. or actually, varsity have two first teams in Cap 2, so perhaps that's actually Prem league.

CPL is a league with some reserve teams in it. It is not a reserve team league.

You two are both missing the point, willfully probably seeing as it's an issue close to your hearts.

The point is that whatever the league is called if it has reserve teams in it then the reality is that players are going to come into those teams from above.  And you shouldn't cry about it.

That is all.

well.. they are not.
Reserve teams are allowed in there however

Right, so whatever it's called it's a league in which reserve teams play and with that comes the reality that those teams might have players dropping down from above.

That's just life in that league and means that the luck of the draw is, well, exactly that.

Err, zero backtrack.  Above my original words from the 5th of May.

Was that the Wests no.10? Who was that kid? Looked like he was just walking around lost for 90mins

Nope.  Gowan was No. 5, and, (though I may be a little biased), played bloody well screening in front of the back three getting stuck in, breaking up the play, working hard covering along the defensive line and winning the majority of balls in the air - essentially doing exactly the job Lloyd asked him to do.  Jordan Valentic-Holden was man-marking Fifi and in my view did very well all game considering who he was up against.  Sure, Fifi was class, very tricky and did cause Jordy some problems but I thought all up Jordy did a damn good job on him for a 15 year old - he competed physically very well.  Given that there were 3 other 15 year olds in the team (Gowan, Jake Harris and Josh Finch), as well as several others only one or two years older, I thought Wests competed pretty well and played their part in a decent game of football.

First half was pretty even - we had a number of really good chances to score and for large parts of the half, were in the ascendency.  I felt when the Stop Out goal in the first half came it was a little against the run of play.  2nd half, Stop Out came out with much more purpose, showing their extra experience and we were under the pump for large parts of the second period.  However, even then, we had two or three good chances to score but didn't.  Overall, Stop Out deserved to win.  They probably deserved to score three based on the chances they created (although I thought the penalty against Joe Harris a little bit harsh) but we certainly deserved to at least notch a couple and make it a closer score line.  However, we didn't so 3-0 it is.

OK mate - I just called it as I saw it from my position at the half way line.   It just looked to me as if Joe had got a piece of the ball as well but you obviously had a much better view of it than I did.

I was standing 70 metres away from the incident and it looked rather blatant and the handful of people on the touch line seemed to agree it was a penalty. Each entitled to their own opinion though.

I guess at the end of the day we can agree or disagree till we're blue in the face.  The only person who's opinion mattered on the day was the ref and he gave it, so it was a pen.

The Prem League is really heating up with a third of the season over.
Looks like it could be very competitive at both ends of the table.
Upper Hutt, Stop Out, Wellington United, Waterside Karori with Miramar close behind.
Island Bay prop up the wrong end at this early stage with Naenae, Kapiti, Wests and Marist in the mix.

Upper Hutt have been sound defensively conceding only 5  so far. Stop Out eye catching footy has got a few good wins. Wellington United have been scoring at will and are in very good form. Waterside Karori have had some good results also.

But who will be top dog in August?
There can be only one winner.

I agree youngblood its great for the league to have such good competition and also the clubs' and their suppoirters.....hopefully it will bring more to the sidelines to support their players each week.

Wellington united are looking really good. Tough team to beat this year.

I think Sasha had a back injury. Don't know anymore than that.

Jamie is just as good so no worries there!

Any reason for your answer or just a shallow no?
Im pretty sure any team with a strike force of Mike Fifi and Jake Theron will go pretty close to winning Football Central Premier.

Possible you got a simple 'no' because your initial question was simple.

I'm not sure a strikeforce of Fifi and Theron is any better than a strike force of G Little by himself.

And Fifi didn't look that devastating against Upper Hutt (although he did against Wests).

Think Stop Out have a really good chance to win the league but it's going to be harder to pick than a broken nose.
