Despite Coastal Spirit losing to Cashmere Technical last evening, Coastal have secured a spot in the Southern Conference, thanks to Christchurch United win over Ferrymead Bays, as none of current three bottom sides can match Coastal's 22 points.

Updated Table:
With Cashmere Technical and Coastal Spirit assured of a finishing in the top five, with ChCh United and Suburbs needing four more points to join them, with Nomads big win over Halswell today assisting their goal difference which may be the deciding factor, with Selwyn needing maximum points to have any hope of making the cut plus needing other results to go their way.
Run in as follows for teams 3rd to 7th - (H) - Home (A) = Away
United - Suburbs (H), Halswell (A), Coastal (H)
Suburbs - United (A), Bays (H), Technical (A)
Nomads - Coastal (H), Technical (H), Selwyn (A)
Bays - Technical (A), Suburbs (A), Halswell (H)
Selwyn - Halswell (H), Coastal (A), Nomads (H)

Two milestones I missed in recent weeks with both Cashmere Technical  and Nomads  becoming just the fourth and fifth club respectively to achieve 450 league points, the other clubs being Ferrymead Bays, Nelson Suburbs  and Western.

Cashmere Technical the fastest to reach the '450 Club' in 181 games, Nelson Suburbs 247, Ferrymead Bays 257, Western 275 and Nomads 312.

Another individual milestone reached on Saturday with Daniel Thoms scoring his 50th MPL goal when scoring for Nomads, his 11th of the season to top the Golden Boot Ladder.
Daniel now moves to 13th on the all time goal list.

Today's results
Coastal Spirit 1 (Dominic McGarr) Selwyn 4 (Dan Ede 3, Luke Blackie) Ht 1 - 4

Selwyn can now make the top five if they defeat Nomads in the final round by 2 clear goals.
Nelson Suburbs can not afford a heavy loss against Cashmere Technical or they could miss the top five cut, if Selwyn win, as Suburbs, Nomads and Selwyn will all finish on 18 points so will be then down to goal difference.

Updated Table.

What happened a few years back when the deciding factor was not goal difference, as that was even, but goals scored? Who and how did that come to pass?

Ryan Stanley must be on some coaches radar, he’s clearly got a football brain that some team could do find useful 🤣
