With tonight's result will be a bigger game next Saturday between Bays and Technical as will also be a Shield Challenge.

bays season hanging on a thread with Coastal the better team on the night, riding their luck a little as 2nd week in a row opposition had a goal disallowed.

Yes with tonights result Bays grip on the championship looks to be over, will now need both Tech and Suburbs to drop most of their remaining games for a hat-trick of titles.

Even if Bays win their last three games - Tech at home, Western away and Halswell at home they would finish with 44 points which would be the lowest numbers of points in a 21 game if the did finish on top.

They might beat Halswell at a pinch and get a draw against Western but the way they are playing Cashmere should take all 3 points. Result today between Suburbs and Cashmere is pivotal, the title is pretty much between those 2 IMO with all other clubs playing the spoiler role.

Sorry no scoop was advised by two different parties that NZ Footy were going to release the University ruling yesterday around lunch time but looks like they dropped the ball as nothing yet, then we still have the University appeal to be ruled on and now the one lodged last week against Chch United.

Maybe it will the Lawyers 11 that go up.

Well done Halswell who collected their 100th MPL win today to join Western, Bays and Suburbs in the 100 club.

Poor ol FC - not only are their Prem team doing it hard.  The Div 1 team got a 11-0 hiding by United this afternoon as well.  (We were playing the chch united div 3 team on another pitch and there musta been a lot of goals in the second half)

I was surprised to see United playing on a real field as opposed to the normal Friday night ASB one tho.

Takes the focus away from the fact they have gone from 1200 juniors to 700 in the last 3 years.

Hmm anyone considered that loss of numbers is cos they went WOF wholeheartedly and now laying the consequences of players not wanting to play toy football???!

I think that's a big assumption to make. The fact of the matter is that they have lost heaps of juniors, and blaming it on WOF plan seems a bit out there. I thought every club has to do WOF soon anyways, so good luck to anyone moving to get away from it.

Must be more to it than that.

FC2011 deserve credit for following WOF and playing their juniors in the correct age grade, as opposed to stacking sides to win Div 1.

Yeah give them credit, looks like the way forward, their team and club are doing well, it's not all about winning it's all about taking part. Just like life!! :-S

WOF may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some clubs they have abolished failing grades; they'll give you as many chances as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING." (Bill Gates).

Lot's of other clubs play in the correct age grades too.

Player development is more than being in the winning team. Those that fail to recognize this remain the single biggest obstacle to Junior Coaches.

Civilization's existence will not hinge on whether any of my sides win their respective Junior Sport grades.

Maybe due to a number of reasons - household movement to the north / west after quakes and then moving elsewhere once new housing settled on - would be interesting to hear if the likes of Selwyn and Waimak have had junior increases over the same period.

Maybe some think FC it too big and their children have little chance of making the 'A' team and gone to other surround clubs, I recall similar comments when Technical and Cashmere merged.

The increase in the numbers playing Futsal.

Movement to others codes due to other factor i.e. winning the Rugby World Cup where non serious player can 'float' around. No doubt if the All Whites reach the 2014 World Cup then football number will show an increase or if the Nix have a winning season.

Would be more of a concern is all clubs had a similar drop in junior numbers.

I see Wellington Olympic - Cashmere Technical's opponents in the semi-final of the Chatham Cup lost yesterday in the Central League to Western Suburbs 3 - nil a result that is likely to end their hopes of winning the league, now 5 points behind leaders Miramar  Rangers with three rounds remaining.

Whilst in a whole participation in sport is great, especially in the younger Junior grades, Juniors also need to learn to win and lose..... How is it possible to create the next Olympic Athletes when it's just about 'taking part'....

I see enough children through work that the second they don't win a 'fun' game (and I'm not talking about a proper game here, even a simple game like Octopus!) end up in tears because they are always allowed to win...... It doesn't help society!

edit - that wasn't aimed at you foal.... I was just quoting you to carry on the conversation :)

And for the supporters of the Coastal Spirit Women's side Seatoun, who Coastal met in the KO Cup semis on 24 Aug went down in the Central Women's League this afternoon to Wellington United, their fourth lost of the season to remain in 3rd place.

that's debateable. Think there are varying versions of WOF. In fact the manual allows for different levels and models. Perhaps those closer to the minimum requirement are noticing less of a leak. And doesn't it also depend on the level of involvement from mainland fdo's. they supposed to do a minimum of 50 hours per club. I know several clubs who have had less than 1 hour to date!!!

Well my club does the WOF and we haven't seen a drop of that proportion, and have been getting rave reviews about it. We have gained junior members too.

My daughter played one year of 'real football', touched the ball hardly ever, but with WOF plays the whole time and learns heaps. That sounds heaps better to me.

first greeted with howls of derision and much wailing and gnashing of teeth, now seen as "why didn't this happen years ago?"...

And that is where this style does work.... there's arguments for both sides...... taking part and learning/developing v competitive aspect.
Is there anything to stop both sides being possible as some players like to just take part, whereas others like to play competitively......
