If youre going to start bringing in official refs, you might as well chop the rolling subs. Makes no sense to have serious refereeing but following junior rules

Its not about following junior rules as the U21s is a senior competition. The issue is more around what was originally agreed by Capital football & the clubs it is now complicated by the introduction of official refs (who are a good addition in my opinion). This will be worked through & a solution found I am sure.

I understand that some Senior divisions allow rolling subs as well.

Strictly lower division teams without refs, where on the day its pretty much anything goes and nobody really cares about the result.

The idea is to get as many playing as possible, not to pretend it's the Champions' League.

Well then officials are over kill then. And bookings are certainly too much.

And im pretty sure that, with 1/3 of the competitions numbers, Nth Wgtn players are easily getting enough game time. I dont think ive ever seen Wests with more than 3 subs at any one game.

What?

Think you need to take a deep breath and have a re-think son.

Having officials is always superior to not having officials.

Bookings are appropriate because cheating is cheating.

Neither of those have any relevance to the sub rule.

Allowing rolling subs (like they do in kids' football and social football) means players can play more minutes, or more players can play, or both.  Which is a good thing in those grades.

The U21s grade is designed as a participation competition, so why not let as many people participate as possible!?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I dunno. Maybe its just me then, but when i hear "participation competition" i think 'everyones a winner', and post match ice blocks for everyone... and maybe a certificate for player of the day.

Well that's what it is.  It's a chance for these kids to play when otherwise they wouldn't.  But it's not a premier competition, and I have no problem with the rolling on and off of three or four or five subs.  I don't even think rolling subs diminishes it as a competition.

Im confused as to why you wouldn't want refs or cards but you are worried that having rolling subs?

Boggles the mind

I just think if youre going to have proper refs, and play serious enough to warrant the use of cards, you would want to go with a more serious substitution rule. There are people involved with this league who want to see it become more serious, hence more teams registering, official referees being appointed, and talk of removing the rolling subs rule. But hey, we'll see what happens?

Cards and propers refs can calm the aggro involved in a lot of games.
If someone puts in an obviously dangerous tackle and we only have a parent ref who only gives a warning. It wont stop it from happening again.
Cards are good.

I wouldn't mind having three subs, but at this point, I don't see much use in introducing them. Especially as most teams have chosen enough players because of the rolling subs rule.

The league agreed to rolling subs from the start, officially rolling subs aren't allowed by Fifa, so it is currently by agreement of the teams.

Certainly an interesting game today between us (Warfies) and (the good) North Welly side.
Won 5-2.
Glad you got that harvey?, arvey? (Spelling?) off when you did. I have no doubt that he was going to hurt someone.

Good game though. Lots of happy players.Stefan2010-06-06 18:00:13

You guys definitely deserved the win yesterday and gave my guys a good lesson in how to play in the wet. Some great goals scored especially the 2 shots from outside the box. Even at 3-1 I still thought we could get something out of it but the guys tried to walk it into the net on a pitch that was like a swimming pool.

The player in question has the potential to be very good (& in fact is a nice kid) but needs to learn to calm down, part of his problem is that he is not very fit so gets left behind by quicker players and resorts to desperate tackles or hand balls as we saw.

Your goalkeeper & centre back had great games, good luck with your next one (unless it's against our other team)

I think we may be up for a bye this week. Or perhaps Stop Out.

We were the only two teams to play yesterday too. Thats good because we are all now even in games played.Stefan2010-06-07 10:13:19

U21 RESULTS FOR SUNDAY 13 JUNE:

UNDER 21 A:
Petone               0    Wests Rovers          0
North Wgtn City       3    Porirua Leste        1

UNDER 21 B:
Wests Knights        __    Bye                  __
Waterside Karori      2    Stop Out              4
North Wgtn Rovers     1    North Wgtn United     3

Annoying to lose to Stop out today. After being locked 2-2 at half time and dominating the second half.
A decent team but not as good as Wests.

I hear that they were asking to be put up to the A Grade after winning their first two games. Lol.

Hmm.
Lost 12-1 today.
Had 9 of our players show up. Stop out kindly loaned us a player. They swapped around every 20 or 30. Very frustrating watching Stop out pass around us. We weren't really there. I did a lot of walking.

Getting a tad annoyed at one thing though. Looking at other clubs. Teams have a dedicated coach (And in some cases, Keeper coach) who runs everything. We have nobody as our official coach.
Nathan and Dunbar fill in when they can but aren't available every week for training and games.
The way I heard it was. A player asked Warfies if there were any spots in teams for him. He was told that, if he sorted out the U21 Squad he could play for us. I find it disappointing that Warfies seemed to have no intention to field a team this year.

Im going to look into getting this done but..
I know that it's common in other clubs that players who play for the First teams, and don't get any or much game time drop down to play Sunday. We don't have that. I would like to see some kind of system where we can do that. As our team is made up of a lot of Uni students who are not always available.
Just quite frustrating when the league is trying to be developed. And quite a few of our players won't be of age to play next year. So we are left wondering what the plan is.

Hopefully I can send out some emails and get some answers. As we will be short again next week.
Stop out have kindly offered to send some players to us if we are short again. Cheers guys.

Anyway.

I think you need more than coaching Max. And remember that email I sent a while back saying youy guys owe money for your fines (I'm still waiting)? On top of the fact that a lot of you bailed on paying subs last year (no idea about this year) I wonder why you dont get any love. Maybe the players at the other clubs are more responsible..

Football is meant to be the unifying force that brings people of different races, beliefs, creeds etc togther. Unfortunately, some people haven'y got the basics right and that makes life difficult for others in the same football team. Responsibilty is meant to increase with age but this seems to miss heaps of people by. Paying fees and fines, turning up to train and play matches are surely part and parcel of being in a teamsport like football. Hope Karori U21 players can pull their socks up and make each other proud by being in a very exciting U21 league!

I was unaware of any email about fines.
Send me a message on facebook and i'll get on to it. Im guessing you mean the yellow cards?
Subs are being sorted out by this week hopefully.

Im just thinking, Parhaps the team could be set up differently next year. As at the moment, its not really a development team.Stefan2010-07-05 06:05:15

I think that at the end of the season Capital Football and the clubs need to sit down and discuss where the U21 leagues are going. There is definitely a demand from players 16-21 to be able to play with their own age group ( I have had to turn players away because the squad was full). There is also the opportunity for those players who do play 1st/2nd team senior football  & don't get a lot of game time to get full matches on a Sunday in a competitive league.

Everybody complains that numbers drop off in football after 16 so any clubs that don't take advantage of the U21 leagues to keep players within their clubs and the game are very short sighted  & doing their club and football in Wellington a disservice.

U21 RESULTS FOR SUNDAY 11 JULY:
UNDER 21 A:
Wests Rovers          3    North Wgtn City       3
Porirua Leste        2    Petone               1

Wests Knights        0    Stop Out              5
North Wgtn Rovers     3    North Wgtn United     6 (Friendly)
Waterside Karori     __    Bye                  __

Shouldn't have been a friendly I think.
As now we have three teams on 4 games, one on 5 and Wests are sitting on 3.

Wests aren't looking too flash any more either. Wonder what happened.

Some teams must have played against the same opposition 4 or 5 times so far and it must be getting a bit boring. The A and B sctions should now be merged and all teams play one round robin and have a top 2 teams playing off for a U21 Cup!!!!

Yeah I agree, i mean theres 9 teams now... but might be a little strange that a third of that is Nth Wgtn. Regardless I dont think theres too much difference between the A and B's. From what Ive seen players come and go and theres a fluctuation in results weekly. w.e though. Im just glad this competition exists.

There is a huge difference between Div 1 and Div 2, merging the leagues is not a good idea. Stop Out I think is the exception, they should have been in Div 1.

Just seen draw for next weekend and Stop Out have the bye again. Bloody frustrating being in a 5 team league and having crappy weather. Since Stop Out joined the league in mid May we have only played 5 games, and last played against Wests on the 11th July?, and because of the bye this coming weekend won't get to play again until the 22nd August at the earliest. Hard to excited about playing in this league when you don't get many games and have to pay subs!!

It's just one of those thing unfortunatly. My understanding is next season there will be more teams involved in the league and with luck there wil be no byes.

I think overall the 2 division format has worked well and all that is needed next season is to get those clubs who do not have teams involved to enter. I think think there is a demand out there from U21 players that is not yet been met by some of the clubs.

We are all (Except Wests) are sitting on 5 games since you joined.
We had two byes in a row too.

Lets hope that Stop Out can get a team together earlier next year. Then you can get some more games.

Is the two league thing going ahead next year too?
If it is, do you know if there will be promotion from this season?

So say.. Top two teams go up and join the A division and the new teams put into B?
Depending on how many new teams there are.
Both Divisions could have 6 teams.Stefan2010-08-09 17:17:08

I'm not sure how it will work exactly, I think it depends on how many teams we get. It would be good to have a promotion relegation type system but I think that may be a little way off. I am pretty sure that there are at least 2 or 3 more teams planned for next season so its a good start.

I would hope that eventually there would be a team from every club in wellington involved in the U21 leagues but the usual apathy from clubs might affect this.

From my clubs perspective the league has been a good thing and has allowed players to develop and come to the attention of the Senior coaches. There are a number of players in our teams that I think are now ready to make the step up to Senior football (and one I think should be playing for the clubs 1st team next season).

From your perspective how has your team found the league Stefan (apart from the byes that is)?
