Hats off to the The Port, still going strong in an absolute downpour. Not sure the Nix have ever played in conditions this bad. 1-2

The pitch drainage cant keep up with all this rain

Weather going to be the winner on the day?

Gutting for the Jets that their only option to shoot is in the air otherwise the ball stops dead directly in front of Woud!
30 Nov 03:37
Puddles forming at Woud's end. This really needs to be delayed for a bit. 1-2

Hard to know if it's the same down the other end as AFC don't seem to be able to mount any attacks at the moment

The away game in Brisbane quite a few years back? Called off early and the win awarded to us with at least 10 minutes to go. That's my memory of it anyway.
30 Nov 03:40
Ok from that De Vries shot it seems they heavy puddles are only in Woud's box

That match and one in Welly vs Gold Coast leap out to me as the worst. I don't think either were this bad. The Brisbane pitch was bad, so it pooled much worse, quicker imo. 1-2

EDIT: should have read on ... people have said the same :-(

Recall a Gold Coast United match back in the day at the ROF that was as bad.

And then once in Brisbane we won when the game was abandoned after the requisite time to constitute a match.

Yes I don't understand why Woud was so desperate to stop the game. It's like having the greatest defender ever on your side, Newcastle are never going to score at that end.

There’s a bunch of water in his favourite kicking spot

Well that's very sad for Auckland.

Weather was a bit of a challenge.

Good result for the nix though.

They certainly couldn’t counter through the water and couldn’t shoot when they got there! Felt like a 3-1 if they could.

Opens up the league that’s for sure.

30 Nov 03:55
That was a lot of fun. Not sure the game should've been allowed to continue but the rain made for a bizarrely entertaining last 20. Well done Jets.
30 Nov 03:56
Newcastle did very well to close that out - they were quite disadvantaged by the puddles in their attacking half there.

Those puddles acting as an extra defender for Auckland 🤣

I remember a game in Wellington and it was against Perth.  May have been 2011 or 2012 when the weather was absolutely atrocious and we have a very low crowd.  I thought it was like 1k or so.  Or am I misremembering?

Weather aside, Auckland lost this game well before the conditions made the game a farce. Before the worst of the downpour started, it already looked as a good chance for a draw, at best, but Delianov had an excellent day in the office anyway.
My thoughts are that May has not recovered properly from the procedure he had in the off season, and the resulting goal creation is way off for Auckland without him.  They have excellent performers in Verstraete, Hall, de Vries and others, but they seem to have lost the scoring edge of last season, Cosgrove's and Randall's efforts to date notwithstanding.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

the pitch in wellington is designed to drain really well. I think it may have been Rickie that said watering isn't that effective as it drains off relatively quickly.

very cold and wet early season game when we used to start in Aug/September. I think it was 4k

Jets winning puts the Victory into the wooden spoon spot.

ah thank you, so not 1k as I thought.  Well there's still time to sink that low

Enjoyable game, really open with good footy

Highlight was Woud's brain fart, rolling the ball short in his 18 yard box straight into a puddle

Was gonna ask if it was the Bertos free kick game but googling for vision of that, I found reports have us at 10k for that match.

It’s character-building for the Port to go through miserable days like this. It’s how you grow up to be real football supporters.

I think I know what one you're talking about, Glory scored late from a corner to win 1-0.

I think I found it, and my mistake it was from a free kick.

Poor from Auckland.
IMO Gallegos is a much better player than Howieson. Plus he's not a striker. So why not play Brimmer up front, like last year, and pair Gallegos with Verstraete at DM?
But apart from that, lots of players had off days, eg some poor touches from Hall, and Randell needs to put those chances away. Sluggish defending from G-R for the first goal too, who seemed reluctant to get in the way of the shot. Though understandable after getting bowled middle stump last week.

I have never been at a football game where the crowd was literally cracking up laughing every few minutes.

But whoever said that AFC had probably lost the game before the downpour started was right. My vibe is that the Jest had a great tactic - just bash through the AKL defence much like a rugby forward pack - and it worked, twice. Helps to have Lachlan Rose speeding around the place too. AFC lacked two things:

a) someone running forward to catch the ball on the rebound/from spills. Poor Jesse Randall was getting it off the woodwork and off the defence and NO-ONE was running through to pick up the crumbs.

b) a tactical Plan B. In the first half, De Vries was doing his usual pinpoint crosses which were *never* going to an AFC head. Once the downpour started, he kept trying to do those crosses and they looked ludicrous.

As I say, I really feel for Jesse Randall, who could have got 4 on a better day. Also impressed that Woud kept his composure even during the "water polo" part of the game.

Hall has been off it this season. Bang average today, done by Piper in the derby a few weeks ago.

The standards he has set for Auckland last season and CCM before that have been lacking big time early on this season.

Three for me, and two for them.
