The irony being that the closest the Port will come to a port on game day is sitting in the way bay at Sky Stadium.

That leads me to my next question, I didn’t really want to bring it up because it seemed like a touchy subject here. But what’s the apparent beef with the port? They were next level last week and I saw they’ve sold out again this week too. Honestly never heard anything like it in nz, it was more fun to watch them than it was in boring phases of the game. Can’t wait for YF v them home and away. Going to be epic battle off

I think the PM in his interview on Saturday called the Port “Auckland Pride”. I think.

Don’t think there is a beef tbh. I think everyone I’ve seen on here was fairly complimentary about the first game.
But for all the guys sitting in the seats we haven’t had that many on the forum engaging with us.
The main guy we got was one dude who called himself Port Soldier, who felt like he might be 15 or something. He kept trying to force conflict where there wasn’t any and then got fixated on a long standing forum member and the group she sits with and was a bit of a tool about it.
Once the derbies get started the rivalry over decisions and results will come naturally! Don’t need to force the river. And I think there’s a fair bunch on here who were Bloc 5 back in the day. Mostly all keen to see an 09 team succeed and for the impact on local football.
I’m not really the best guy to speak cos I’m living overseas and not getting to that many games.
Looks like the derbies are selling well.
Anyway, not just us, but the whole league really needs the energy Auckland are bringing. It’ll be interesting to see if they can get more respect out of Sydney or Melbourne, with the bigger city and powerhouse billionaires backing they’ve got!
We’ve always had it tough in Vic and even when we were beating them I don’t think Sydney ever gave us much respect.

Doloras, in regards to Gillion and a song... Any words to the tune of Gillighans Island as a suggestion. Chirpy tune etc and definitely a play on similar names. I thought he had a great game.
I think Sydney will be to strong and experienced as a team for AFC but who knows? Certainly adding interest throughout NZ and that has to be good for everyone. Was the PM out trying to vote collect?

Hard to say. Both Kiwi teams lacking an in form goal scorer (outside Rogerson!).
Phoenix should beat Perth, but it’s always a difficult place to travel with the climate and time difference. That said, Perth is weak and even with a reaction, we’d expect the Phoenix to dig deep and get the win. Still early days in the league for our new imports.
Similarly for Auckland it’s hard to say. They’ve got one new guy potentially coming in, and the other imports may begin to show more.
Sakai and De Vries, with Elliot on the bench is possibly the strongest attacking FB roster. Both starters are too good for the league, really.
I’m interested in seeing if Max Mata gets minutes. He’s more than capable of getting on the end of some delivery. And I’d be happy for him too to find some A league form.
Perhaps Sydney may be tired, but they usually come at you very hard in a press and don’t let up until they’re right on top of the game. This will be a real test for Hall and Pijnaker and the midfield. Paulsen will remember what it’s like.
This will be a much better test for FC than Brisbane and we’ll see how much work they have to do by the end of the game. Though it is early season with plenty of time to come.
I’d be surprised, but not shocked if Auckland win. Auckland have quality players, but Sydney already seem to be one of the teams to beat.

To be honest you reckon the Port are awesome with their noise they are nothing compared to the Yellow Fever in full stride and we have been doing it for 17 years.
Take look at some of the footage thats around of the Yellow Fevers march to last years semifinal.
Actually surprised the Port dont seem to have reached out to join us for pre game drinks as most other away fans do..

But seriously folks: here's a factor.
The tiny mob behind the misspelled T-AFC flag on Saturday were, with one exception, entirely new to active support. They didn't know about chanting, they didn't know about standing up at the football, etc.
And you know what? Every single one of those people, despite the tiny numbers compared to the huge and impressive Port turnout, had a great time and are coming back, maybe even bringing friends. People who didn't know what a chant was are now trying to write one about Liam Gillion. And they bought tickets and came because someone (not me) had the idea of "active support for lefties".
That is something that the trolls are trying to crush, for... reasons. Think about what kind of fandom that is.

As for this Port Soldier, that’s a bit weird. Has he/she come back into the forum since?
I like the idea of respecting opposition supporters, but I hope for the sake of game day and healthy competition/rivalry, the banter and competitive attitudes will be out. Like hating each other for the day but after the final whistle, be able to get along have a beer. We are NZ after all, no need for wannabe green street hooligan attitudes here!
Do you think Auckland will get great numbers from the YF coming up in force in December? That’d be epic. Already hearing the port guys are coming down next weekend in force. So good for nz football

It's a derby, it's a completely different vibe. Hop onto their FB groups, many of them are obssessed with bettering the Nix, on & off the pitch.
I'm sure there will be a number of AFC fans both pre & post match mixing with Nix fans. But there will also be a number there, who will be very much keeping to themselves, doing their chants etc.
It's going to be a whole different experience to any other Nix home game ever, because of the large number travelling fans. A unique NZ sporting occassion. Bit like the large number of loud Peruvian fans who rocked up to the ROF in 2017.

I really hope it doesn't go feral either.
But I'd also not expect to see all the fans pre game just mixing freely. Not that I will be there, but that would seem all too tame. The fan seperation, the pre game marches, the chanting, that helps bring the edge, the atmosphere, the tension.

The last "real" derby match I went to was back in 1985 at Stamford Bridge V Arsenal. Standing in the Shed surrounded by guys that were certainly not into "Prawn Sandwiches" & Latte's. Decent game too. Yes, a Real Derby is an awesome atmosphere for the most part. I just hope it is a Sunny Day for all to enjoy the occasion as it it truly is a special one.
