I am looking forward to the game this weekend vs sydney , it was good to see some polynesian kids playing for Auckland.
I might take my grandson to the south stand, cheap tickets.
he likes football at school  and league,  but hes shy, i reckon it will be cool for him to see people who look like him.
a little bit different from glenora bears but all goods!
are you fellas going to come here for the wellington v auckland game?
this is all new to me, i see you guys do some cool support too
thank you,
paddy

Love this post. Get your grandson to google Wynton Alan Whai  Rufer and Winston Wiremu Reid (part owner now of Auckland FC). Two guys of Maori heritage who did big things in football overseas.

Or Bill Poni Tuiloma and Michael Joseph Boxall, two guys raised in Auckland of Samoan descent playing the highest level football in the USA. Or Marko Seufatu Nikola Stamenic who has Samoan heritage (photo below wearing a Ula lole after a NZ game), was raised in Wellington and is now signed with English Premier League club Nottingham Forest

But yeah there is nothing better for young kids to see their heroes and role models live. Get a selfie, an autograph, see them up close in the flesh. As grandad Paddy says 'people who look like me'!. And that's why it's great having a 2nd NZ team, with some Island/Maori heritage guys like Hall, Howieson, Mata and Rogerson. If they inspire kids to have a crack at football/ soccer, all cool stuff. Thanks for sharing Paddy.

And Paddy here is a nice story about Dan Hall, who has Fijian heritage but was adopted out and raised in Australia by his adoptive white parents. It's a super cool yarn.

https://aleagues.com.au/news/a-league-news-central-coast-mariners-tickets-kaltak-hall/

Hall now plays for Auckland. You read this article, and you can't help but like him.
It's really all about yeah young kids getting a buzz about seeing heroes that look like them.

Hall has already done a little bit of stuff with the Fijian football community in Papatoetoe/Mangere.

Yeah but reading that article, Speedway has no future at Western Springs.

The National body may wish to continue there, but the promoters who organise and pay for the events don't. They lose money being at WS, with all the noise restrictions they have to operate under. Plus their lease with Council at WS is ending. The National body may try & fight to stay, but seems they don't run the actual events - it's just stubborning trying to hang on by your fingernails, when all logic says it's time to say goodbye.

The question is why John Walker, Albany councillor, has anything to do with anything happening at Western Springs. You Wellingtonians know how the Right wing councillors are always trying to destroy anything happening, on general principle? The Auckland Right aren't that bad, but John Walker is one of the worst

Didn’t believe it would be that easy getting the Speedway to leave! That’s a committed group.

Their lease runs out soon so they won't really have a leg to stand on in that regard. Or more to the point, a track to race on.

Yep, the article seemed to say that. I was surprised that even given inevitably that they’d gone meekly, mentioned at the bottom of a letter! And now, not so.

Auckland FC made a statement in their inaugural A-Leagues match which drew close to 25,000 fans!

Yeah its easy to get the two councillors John Watson and Wayne walker confused. Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee .Both from the Albany Ward (Hibiscus Coast) .Professional politicians that somehow keep getting re elected.

Also, John Walker the Olympic athlete was a councillor 2016-2019.

(As was the late Dick Quax, an anti-cycling loudmouth so reactionary that he got a verb named after him)

Bill foley net worth $1.6 billion.
Rob Morrison net worth $40.3 million.

Bill's net worth is 39.7x that of Rob's.
Where do you get $40 million from? This is $600 million by itself: https://infratil.com/news/sph-notice-robert-william-bentley-morrison/sph-notice-robert-william-bentley-morrison/

Which is a mixture of shares owned directly by Rob and a few trusts that he's the trustee of.

Googled net worth. Maybe I misread the data, apologies.
this article states it as $450 million, which is still 3.5x smaller than Bill.
https://wellington.live/robert-morrison/

Capitalist running dog Rob just got nearer Fat cat Foley with Infratil yesterday posting a record share price to become NZ's 3rd most valuable stock behind Fisher & Paykel Health and Meridian Energy, but now ahead of, ahem, Auckland Airport. Infra now valued at 12.58billion dollarsNZ of which Rob's slice is 5.04%

Shhhhh....it's not correct to say the Nix might be owned by a near billionaire.

Great man Rob M. The club and Wellington city are oh so fortunate to have him as the principal owner of the Phoenix. Continuing the legacy of brother Lloyd.

Score predictions for this weekend game Auckland vs Sydney?
I think Auckland FC win 3-2

2-2. Don't tell your Brazilian workmates, but they may yet be disappointed.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360464482/auckland-fc-coach-steve-corica-says-win-over-former-club-would-be-more-special

The extent of (Diego) Costa’s involvement on Sunday is up in the air, however, as he was withdrawn shortly after halftime as Sydney lost to Sanfrecce Hiroshima – another of Corica’s former clubs – in the Asian Champions League Two on Wednesday night.

Talay said the Brazilian had felt tightness in his hamstring, but that the move was also tactical, as he looked to introduce fresh legs in what turned out to be a 2-1 defeat.

Auckland drew a crowd of 24,492 to their inaugural match last weekend and had sold 10,000 tickets for their encore as of Friday morning, with
chief executive Nick Becker anticipating a final attendance of somewhere between 13 and 15,000.

Depending on subject matter they to can be slow but not really surprising as there arnt that many actually in the Phoenix office. Compared to Auckland the Phoenix operate on a shoe string. Also dont think its the Phoenix that should be driving any honoring of Chris as much as i thank him greatly for the work he put in.

Doloras, in regards to Gillion and a song... Any words to the tune of Gillighans Island as a suggestion. Chirpy tune etc and definitely a play on similar names. I thought he had a great game.

I think Sydney will be to strong and experienced as a team for AFC but who knows? Certainly adding interest throughout NZ and that has to be good for everyone. Was the PM out trying to vote collect?

Surely for Gillion it would be the Saka chant to the tune of Voulez-Vous.

Gillion,
Liam, running down the wing
Liam, hear the Auckland sing
Liam, we are gonna win the league.

Could also work for Rogerson.

Three for me, and two for them.

(Non biased) score predictions for this week? Both NZ teams.

I’m going to say AFC remain undefeated after Sunday, and Wellington to get another draw against Perth. They won’t be happy with letting 6 past them last week, and Ollie will be well up for it

2-1 Phoenix, Glory to score a worldy out of nowhere.

3-2 Sydney. Auckland will get a couple of goals against Sydney’s somewhat inexperienced defence but their front 6 will be too strong for AFC.

Hard to say. Both Kiwi teams lacking an in form goal scorer (outside Rogerson!).

Phoenix should beat Perth, but it’s always a difficult place to travel with the climate and time difference. That said, Perth is weak and even with a reaction, we’d expect the Phoenix to dig deep and get the win. Still early days in the league for our new imports.

Similarly for Auckland it’s hard to say. They’ve got one new guy potentially coming in, and the other imports may begin to show more.

Sakai and De Vries, with Elliot on the bench is possibly the strongest attacking FB roster. Both starters are too good for the league, really.

I’m interested in seeing if Max Mata gets minutes. He’s more than capable of getting on the end of some delivery. And I’d be happy for him too to find some A league form.

Perhaps Sydney may be tired, but they usually come at you very hard in a press and don’t let up until they’re right on top of the game. This will be a real test for Hall and Pijnaker and the midfield. Paulsen will remember what it’s like.

This will be a much better test for FC than Brisbane and we’ll see how much work they have to do by the end of the game. Though it is early season with plenty of time to come.

I’d be surprised, but not shocked if Auckland win. Auckland have quality players, but Sydney already seem to be one of the teams to beat.
