"A reminder we are fully independent. Just a small group of passionate fans trying to support the team and bring something new to Aotearoa"
Its this statement that really pisses me off and the arrogance of it.
Its not new to Aotearoa its new to Auckland like lots of other things if it hasnt happened in Auckland it hasnt happened in in NZ.
What gets me is not just them but some in the media carry on as if its never been seen before.
Yep 6 in a row is new and a crowd like that in Auckland is new.
But fans chanting, waving flags and banners and scarfs, flares going off, fan march's crowds  over 27000 have all been seen before in Aotearoa in that little old city south of the Bombays called WELLINGTON.

no need to be so sensitive about this lol of course they want to hype themselves up & talk about how great they're, same thing happens with OSM, with the Cove, even Melbourne City fans (idk what their active is called) post the same thing... Nix fans and Wellington people always say "We are the capital of football" & we give them crap for having 2 failed teams before this, it's not that deep.. Yellow Fever talk about how inclusive we are, and how we welcome opposition fans, everyone active has their own thing going on.

Dont see whats so wrong with being PO with continually hearing this is new to NZ when it clearly isnt. Not sure what YF being inclusive and welcoming opposition fans has to do with me being PO not as if i in any way speak for YF.
From conversations i have had with a number of people im not the only one PO with continually hearing that this is new to NZ.

Then, if it's irrelevant, why would you be commenting about it?? I watched tvone news tonight and the sports section led with football and had three other football items as well. So I personally found that very relevant to me, and quite exciting actually.

LOL, Talk about building yourself up. MacArthur were unlucky to lose their first game there but I think, they will find Melbourne a very different kettle of fish.

Pretty sure it is new to NZ to have a NZ team win 6 games in a row in the A League. They will likely lose in the weekend and you can jump on them then.
Again it is new to have these great crowds to an ordinary round match.
IMO you are comparing apples with oranges with your play off games and international

Well, they didn’t leave NZ, did they? So it is essentially a home game when you play in an Oz league.

So when Cardiff play Swansea away that’s essentially a home game for Cardiff?

I guess you miss the fact that at every other game they hate on the English? Regardless, they have a long established hatred of each other. This has none of that. Whilst it's not a "home" game, compared to the rest of the teams they face, it was nothing.

Not really about distance but who's fans you're surrounded by. I doubt Inter Milan players feel like it's a home games when it's AC's turn to host the derby and tens of thousands of people are booing them.

More seriously. What am I missing about The Port repeating that they're independent? Is someone saying they're not? Or are they just trying to make distance between them and the club, so Foley doesn't get on the hook for overexcited jerkasses?

Just an opinion but I suspect that it's just not been clear since the two have been working quite closely to help the Port with a few things - so perhaps needed to be made clear.  I can assure you they are independent but have asked for and received a bit of help from Auckland FC/Mt Smart for match day stuff.

Probs not, WSW vs Sydney is home game for both. Same with the Melb teams.
Same country for Aucks and Nix is pretty much a home game for both, no time zones to travel unlike Aus.

I suspect Chiefy just chose his wrong words because he has been on the Nix camp for yonks where any game in NZ is a home game.

He probably meant to say they haven't had to leave the country more than once and deal with the challenges of constant travel like headed over to Perth, headed back to NZ, the straight off to Melbourne in a week or whatever.

Last year the game in Auckland was a Nix home game, so easy words to jumble up.

Clutching at some serious straws there...

Auckland to Wellington is further than Newcastle to Bournemouth. That's not equivalent to Sydney/WSW. If Auckland get enough fans to Wellington (and vice versa) that it doesn't feel like a home game all the credit to them.

There's something strange going on here. Nix play their home games in Wellington. AFC play theirs in Auckland. End of. As far as NZ is concerned the A League is no longer a replica of the NRL.

Really think people are over thinking what Chief said. Would have thought its pretty obvious what he was meaning. Yes playing in Wellington certainly isnt a home game for them but its also a big difference from having to travel to Aussie for an away game.
Was at training today and he thinks its hilarious the over reaction from many got the impression he is well happy with their reaction.

it sucks that for almost the entirety of the Nix's existence the AL and the Nix didn't feature on TV news irrespective of what's happening. But this is the benefit of Akl in the comp, that's what a lot of people thought would happen that media interest would grow which is beneficial for the Nix. It does still suck, like the not favourite kid that has to out do the favourite kid to get a slither of recognition.

For the league in general the media interest is great, I'm not sure it will get any more eyes on the Nix though. Every week its "Auckland this, Corica that" Nothing about the rest of the league or the other NZ team. I get it they are the new kids on the block and they are winning, but even when the Nix have had their runs we never got this kind of coverage.

They're both listed as ins, but I've been told Verstraete and Howieson could likely miss this weekends match with Melbourne City.

Both Howieson & Verstraete out would definitely make Auckland vulnerable.
Finn McKenlay is the next natural central midfielder? Or does Brimmer go a bit deeper and Toomey start.

Know nothing about Melb City's visa players, but apparently they are starting to fire.
