Just spit-balling ideas here but I think it would be pretty cool if the Port and the YF combined during AW home games so our boys have one massive and loud supporters group whenever they come home.

From what I saw during the Euros it doesn't seem out of the question for fans of rival clubs to get together for their country.
I love this idea, it’s what football is all about! Rivalry between the YF and the port will be all fun and games at the end of the day. Although everyone seems so serious here. Lighten up lads :)

Yep, as I said don't expect too much. If chants come they come. Id expect we'd just change the same old ausies chant to same old Aucklanders or something like that.

Same old Jafas
“We know what we are, we know what we are! Jaffa army, we know what we are!”
 That's your chant..?

Some of us do, yes. Unfortunately not a football thing…
IMG_2019.jpeg 59.45 KB

Banter needs to come from a place of much more security, and a bit of mutual respect. And generally needs to be funny…It’s not just throwing insults or pointing out people fd up.

It helps when there’s a bit of history to refer back to. Or when you know a bit about the people you’re giving it to. Being ‘Spursy’ or ‘Lads it’s Tottenham’ doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t know about the history…

Banter with "the port" should be at the same level as our banter with the other teams, imo our rivalry goes : 🐍 -> distance derby ---> then maybe Auckland on par with Victory (our first game) and Sydney (cheated to keep us out of a final)

If you want a bit of banter then I guess it's apt that you call yourself after the second biggest port in the country, shows the inferiority complex you're demonstrating with us. I still don't get it, Auckland isn't associated with ports particularly and your port isn't unique, you don't play near one and there is no historical association. In fact wharfies are very much rugby league through and through, they'd look down on football.

We probably have more association with ports considering our stadium is next to one.

I'll say what I always say, don't try and force it, just let the rivalry come naturally if it ever does. That goes for David Dome and the phoenix too

I'm going to stand up for the Port poster on here... Stop being so bloody precious!

I don't see them coming on here as trolling - especially if we set up a page specifically to let it run wild. So long as they are not on every page spewing crap who cares.

Why have a page on here dedicated to the other team, if you don't want to engage with them when they come on - stay on the other pages.

A healthy rivalry can only help grow the game of football in NZ... something I would of thought we could all get in behind!

MetalLegNZ for the win! Honestly mate you’re one of very few who gets it. Seems like these YF folk are extremely sensitive! Clearly rattled that the capital of nz is no longer the capital of football. (For people reading this, that was BANTER, fyi).
AFC and nix fans have a real opportunity here to boost the game in this country, but it’s not going to happen with all these people getting hurt feelings in an open website forum 😂

It’s also clear this guy has never read the forums or discussed anything on them before.

This bollocks above gets this 🤷‍♂️from most of us, doesn’t start a discussion or engagement. Or a debate. I mean, yeah? We’re rattled. A fair chunk of the forums live in Auckland or further afield.

If it’s someone like KiwiPie or C-Diddy or even that obsessive CCM fan who’d drop by, they come on the forums and get involved. It’s not just a kind of drive by on a tricycle.

Just turning up and going Phoenix are smelly wees- banter- not offensive to the incontinent- some of my best friends are incontinent-he gets it!!  isn’t it.

If you want to make your own thread, make it. Better still your own forum too. Don’t say you’re going to start a debate etc etc just start it.

So far they’ve come on here to talk about starting a debate, a discussion, to sell us an opportunity…

I suggested for example a contest of who could raise more for a specific charity, which got ignored, perhaps poor reading skills.

They haven’t given us any opinion or anything about AFC. The thread is full of discussion about signings, potential signings, social media style, the various owners, the pre-season, potential starting 11, if there’ll be a marquee, the quality of the badge design, the quality of the stadium chosen, the derby, how many Kiwis will make the starting 11…they’ve offered nothing on any of the discussions in this thread.

Yeah getting the vibe that the AFC “fans” on this thread are more interested in trying to “own the nix” rather than you know, support their own club.

If this person wants have banter or whatever then they’re more than welcome to set up an AFC forum, Facebook page, subreddit etc to host that. This forum is for Phoenix fans to discuss things relating to the Phoenix, including our various opponents.

What the fudge is a port soldier. Makes about as much sense as calling a fan group 'the port' when their home ground is 10km from the port.  Or having a catch phrase which is about themselves rather than their team.

In fact, the closest the Port will come to a port is when they are in the away bay at Sky Stadium.
Could ask the same about the yellow fever! Does someone have an illness?
what was the name of your old user on here bud? Ya know, roughly a year ago when you were still inevitably a nix fan

Not really sure why anyone on the YF forums needs to stand up for a Port poster.
This is the YF forums where there are threads for all the other teams in the competition for YF members to discuss the other teams. Im not aware those threads were created so fans of the other teams can jump in to create banter.
As others have said it will come why try and force it. For me thats whats great about YF it isnt forced its not overly organized and things just happen mostly unscripted.
The mere fact its Wellington v Auckland is enough to create banter for many of us. YF has nothing to prove our record speaks for itself its the new boys that need to prove themselves and with something more than just abusing YF and The Phoenix

Just two things here. First of all - ‘mostly unscripted’?? What part of the forum IS scripted??
Secondly - the YF kind of do have something to prove and I’m legitimately hoping it happens…the YF have been boring for years. Small turnout to games every week (unless the nix are in a playoff match. Only sing when you’re winning mentality etc), hardly heard from the stands, average selection of chants. The port is ready to go and we’ll be there every week belting our lungs out. Would be great if the YF would raise their game, it’d be a great advertisement for the game here in NZ

None of the forum is scripted the YF exists outside of the forum, and for example no one planned the do do do do Zawada chant, someone just started belting it out one day after he scored and it grew organically as every good chant does. And again your criticism of the fever really does just read like you’ve never actually been to a game. The fever created the 2nd best atmosphere in the league beating out The Cove, RBB, and whatever victory's mob are called there days as voted by players. Along with the phoenix had a well above league average average attendance.

Don’t forget that the cake tin is huge which is why it can look empty even with a crowd that would look decent in a lot of the leagues more appropriately sized venues. It also means spectators are very far from the pitch so we sound quiet on TV because we’re about 100m away from the nearest microphone.

And if you’re impression of the fever is from Eden park keep in mind that most of the people there are from Auckland and not regular members of the fever so it’s always a dumbed down selection of chants. In fact a lot of those people i imagine will be in the port going forward.

Anyway will be interesting to see what the port looks like 17 years from now once the novelty’s worn off and the clubs gone through rough seasons as every club inevitably does. Especially  in a city that’s already had multiple chances to support a football team.

It is a bit ironic that an Auckland FC fan took the thread off topic from talking about how the Auckland FC team is expected to do on the field this season to talking about Yellow Fever.

Shows what their focus is perhaps, and it’s not their own team.

But yes, I agree with what Auckland Phoenix said above ^

Like most, I'm all for chants being more organic than forced. I do find it odd though that the AFC fan-base are starting out as anti-nix (that seems a little weird) - especially as we've not played yet. Some of the team specific chants have developed over time due to various events/players/managers - trying to force chants onto the non-yf supporters never goes down well.

I do feel there's gotta be a slight amount of leverage accounting for the unique situation we're in, with a brand-new club sprouting up that is inevitably going to cause some Nix fans to spread their interest. As the 'rivalry' is still in its infancy, I think that a bit of coordination is definitely in the best interests of both sets of fans as we try to nail this golden opportunity to increase the public interest in NZ football

Seeing vitriol this hard, this early from both sets of fans is a bit disconcerting I can't lie

anyway, back on it - Louis Verstraete is a done deal, and he looks a cracker of a signing. The same signing thematically as Kraev, Zawada, Sasse, etc.; a highly rated youngster with hampered development who could well find his potential in NZ.

Extremely highly rated as a youngster at Gent, with several Belgian U21 caps earned, but was hampered by injury. Went out to Beveren at age 19 where he was a Pro League regular (and a yellow card machine). Was purchased by Antwerp in 2020 (aged 21) but couldn’t kick on due to more injuries and dropped down a tier to sign with Beveren permanently in 2021. Has been crucial for them ever since and looks to have made big strides. Only just turned 25.

Box-to-box midfielder than can play deep - probably supplants Howieson in midfield there, allowing Brimmer and Gallegos to be the more advanced of the trio

When are the famous Port creating their own forum?

With all the "investment" in AFC, I am surprised the club have not set up either a non club website/forum for their fans or on their official club website a forum for their fans.

If they just stick with Facelessbook, Then it will die. They really need to get together out of their own pockets (Like the YF did) and get one running. Even if they copied this model that the YF use. At least it would be something fan owned and run. If they can't be arsed doing it, then they won't grow their own fanbase.

Can’t wait for us to have our own forum! Lots for AFC to do in very little time, I think making a forum is pretty low on the list tho. But good idea of yours, it’ll happen soon I’m sure
