If Smeltz is their star signing..
Imagine what the other players will be like.

If Gold Coast do better than the phoenix i will be pissed off with him
But if they do worse I will be happy.. That will teach him.

Sorry should have been clearer. It's just an expletive on the situation.

If the club had any good news to announce i.e. a new signing, i think they should do it. Soon. Need to get neutrals who see Smeltz as our star and only decent player back on side

They were pretty sneaky putting it out last night while we were at the U-17 game.

I've never seen a release from the club at 8:17 in the evening.

How's my driving? - Whine here

You guys read these forums, and know that Shane's signing has been the worst kept secret on the Gold Coast for a while now.

He lied about wanting to put all talks about his future on hold until the end of the season, why wouldn't he lie about this?

Well I certainly wouldnt want to announce that I have signed with another team not even half way through the season.

I can understand that he would want to be closer to his family too.
I wouldnt like living and playing in a different country and being so far away from my family.
Im not too concerned about smeltz leaving. we still have him until the end of the season and if he picks up his act, plays well and scores more goals I wont be too bitter about his leaving. If ricki decides not to play him it would be a stupid idea. he still has the talent so keep him on.

Go out with a bang smeltz.

Neither would I ... but at least be honest about it.

He told fans he wanted to concentrate on football, and leave everything else until the end of the season.

Doesent this count as focusing on football though?

Well then maybe he did lie about it..
But I think lie is a strong word.. I would say keeping it quiet.
because it has attracted so much attention I think that this was the best thing for him to do while it was all being confirmed.
If he told us straight out that he wasnt signing with them It would be a lie but he didnt.
He just kept it quiet.
Neither confirming nor denying.

Who are the 4 other players who Tony P mentioned could be lost to new clubs?

Tony P asked Shane "have you signed for Gold Coast?", and Shane said "No".

If he was 'keeping it quiet' he WAS lying.

One rumored is Dodd to Gold Coast.

Gold Coast don't even have a team yet but already have a better strike force than the Nix :(

Technically he wasn't lying. If Tony P had asked, are you signing / in the process of signing for GC yeah.. he woulda been lying.

Anyway that's not the point and it doesn't matter. If he cared about Karma and 'doing the right thing' etc it wouldn't even be a discussion.

Build a bridge people.. Wellington is unfortunately cold, windy and pretty sh*teous. I would have done the same in his shoes (or his wife's as it were).

He probably did when that was issued, as you said months ago, but things have moved on, and there has been  the constant media speculation.

I suspect the club has known pretty well for the few weeks they say they have been looking hard.

(In the news section:)
Serepisos said the Phoenix had already begun scouting to find top-notch players for the 2010/11 season.

Our planning for next season began some time ago and Tony Pignata and [head coach] Ricki Herbert are already working on some very promising leads. In football you cant wait around and see what happens you have to be pro-active.

Okay, so that's the party line. Already planning for next season. The way they planned for this season? Taking the field with only one striker worthy of that title, and even Smeltz has been kinda missing in action so far.

Sure we lost out on Porter, but management assured fans at the time they had plans B, C, D, etc, to cover that glitch. They didn't. And we're going to end up with the wooden spoon, and the laughing stock of the league.

Wherever they apportion the blame for this season, it's been a fiasco. I'm not expecting anything better for the last eleven games.

Last season was forgiveable with the quick startup, but not this time. A useful squad on paper, playing cr*p football on the field.

If the Nix management and players can't get their act together next season, it may be the beginning of the end for both the club and any NZ presence in the A-League.

Didn't Porter sign a letter of intent for next season with the Phoenix, how binding is that?

The way I look at it is Smeltz is gone, lets move onto bigger and better things.

The other thing that needs to looked at is if Gold Coast are paying big money for players then where are they in relation to the Salary cap. The way the are splashing about money means that the FFA needs to keep an eye on them.

I don't know how binding a letter of intent is, what was the reason he wasn't here this year?  Hartlepool not letting him go?  He may not want to come back after the form he is in over there.

Well with some of their signings so far the could pay them with peanuts as they are sh*te, leaving more money for the better ones possibly?

They did, it was Kwasnik. Not sure if he was B,C or D, but I can guess

I wonder if the Nix tried their hardest on Mrs Smeltz, who clearly made the decision. It wasn't a footballing one.

Hartlepool activated an extension clause in his contract.

Smeltz is on the whip. Fact.

. Those of us who pass what might be viewed by some as negative comments do so because we care, and are just NOT going to 'bending over' and take what is being done to OUR team.
"Revel in your clubs demise" is no doubt one of the most ignorant comments I have ever heard, anywhere.

So Gold Coast's plan is to look at the 'Nix's squad and recruitment and then offer them Indy, high rise time share and more money???

Smeltz, Porter and Dodd...

We'll be doing it tough without Dodd, though it probably would mean Siggie Dura in the middle...

Perhaps the same set of circumstances when he moved to the Nix?

Shane Schmuck saying he will still score for us.

I don't understand, if he is trying to better his career, how can you go to a team that doesn't even have a squad yet?  How do you know they are gonna be successful? Coz their loudmouth out spoken coach says he's signing Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and that??
