Ufuk Talay - Ufuked off to Sydney FC

Bit concerned about the lack of head coaching experience at club level.

At least announcing it this early means they had him locked in for a little while at least. Which should mean he's already started recruiting/retaining players.

I am curious what swung the decision for Welnix to go for Talay over Vidmar.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Do we have a Turkey community in Wellington he can activate?

This year, start of the Ramadan coincides with the start of our off-season. Surely a sign.

If it was close, which it should have been

Then the swing would have been he is Rudans mate

Really happy to hear the news, but... Talay's season is not over yet. And can't imagine Sydney FC will appreciate him doing Nix stuff like recruiting while he's still on their payroll. So, realistically, how soon could we expect him to come onboard? Earliest? Latest? And will it be soon enough to tie down our key out-of- contract players?

True, and they played together at Avispa Fukuoka in Japan.

I'm sure Mark was recruiting while he was on our pay roll so should be sweet

So do we all now want Sydney Smurfs to win the title this year. So Ufuk comes on board with a title win under his belt as an assistant and the insight and coaching experience that comes with it ??

but.... but... but... I wanted months of angst, how the hell am I going to fill in the off season now ?

Are 1 year contracts the new norm?

At the very least it feels like we have a plan, rather than waiting for something to fall into our lap. Ufuk is clearly a continuity candidate, and that makes sense to me.

Pretty hard to give out longer term contracts when we don't exactly have guaranteed long term security as a club.

Well, not yet anyway...

Don't worry. We still have plenty of angst to stew on re: license and independent A league issues. I actually feel quite good about this off season - it's nice to only have a sustainable level of angst.

If Talay gets Krishna, Burgess and William's to stay, we will all be saying "Ufuk'n beauty."

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

What difference does it make?

Football contracts are a made up thing that almost never represents how long a player or coach will actually be at a club.

Length of contract only indicates the compensation package or transfer fee.

When his Sydney commitments are done. Their last ACL Group stage game is the 21st May but if by some miracle they make it out of the Group Stage, their last games are 19th & 26th June. The quarter finals are at the start of next season for the A-League.

Hold on, what am I talking about. We literally just replaced Mark Rudan with Mark Rudans mate. Argh, we're doomed

we need a quality dm or cm ro play alongside Rufer. Mandi was a step up for us, but wouldn't make any of the top 3 sides IMO and I think it's the position holding us back the most.

Not that he's the answer but weren't we signing Joe Bell?

Well, not yet anyway...

David Dome said on Radio Sport this morning that Talay has a two year contract.

With an 8 weeks' notice 'casual employment' provision?

So did that other guy.

Success for Ufuk = Reach A league playoffs (Without telling the team your leaving and then losing 4 out of your last 5 games).

Masters Grade aint no run in the park on a Saturday...

Was that because of Rudan or because we lost our only quality RWB to injury?

04 May 11:32

Hoping for our confirmed squad for next season to have: Sail, Rufer, Singh, Waine, Burgess, Krishna, Elliot, Fenton, Taylor and maybe Durante.

4 Import slots for the coach to work with if we really toughen our defence and defensive midfield spots with some solid imports I think we can be competing for top 4.

Hate to say it but I hope Dura retires. He had a resurgence this season but started to tail off again over the last few weeks where his age really started to show when he had to go up against quick forwards running straight at him. If he has one more go around, he can't be starting every week. For me it's got to be Stevey T in the middle of that back 3 every game next season. Of course he'll always be one of, if not the, most beloved players of all time at this club, but it's time for him to move upstairs and become Dome's understudy.

Fixed.

Will give benefit of the doubt on Durante.

How many goals conceded came down that flank out of interest?..noting that when he did play it put pressure on opposing fullback and created some of our chances

Never underestimate the subjective factor, aka morale.

Totally right. I will forever argue that both the Adelaide game (where a draw could have been expected beforehand) and especially the Brisbane game (which should have been winnable by a good margin) were the casuality of that factor (plus Fenton).

Kinda. Got two more CB type players in Lowry and (unfortunately) Gulley to play the position and then found a kind of solution only to go into the finals game with a failed plan. He could have trusted Elliot or looked to sign cover earlier.

Any word on Ufuk's assistant? Does Greeny keep the job, or will the new guy brings in his own assistant?

Aims - beat Adelaide in Adelaide and Perth in Perth and retain fortress Westpac. Thatd be fairly successful.

Yeah.  One year?  What sort of negative, loser, no future dumb tenure is that?

Is it just so he can't quit after a season like his mate?

Is there a transfer fee for coaches to other A-League clubs?

The club said it's two years.
