And if he has kids, has he figured out the differences between the NZ and Ausi curriculum

Auckland will rise once more

23 May 20:29

Grand Final winning Sydney FC coach Steve Corica credits his assistant Ufuk Talay - who will be confirmed as Wellington Phoenix coach on Friday - as “playing a key role” in Sydney FC's triumph. Corica wishes Talay all the best, with replacing him now a priority. Corica says Sydney FC had a lot of challenges this year with needing to find a new coaching staff, seven or eight new players and no stadium but the plan is “to back it up and do it again”.

What time is the presser scheduled for and will it be uploaded to YouTube soon after?

Piney said press conference is at 2pm. Given our social media strength of late, I'd imagine it'd be on YouTube before the end of the day

They usually live stream them.

Has the presser finished yet? Any sign of the video?

24 May 04:29

Excellent first interview. No crap, just straight forward. Wants to be called Uffie too. Very close to signing a new keeper.

"I'm here for the long haul. I've already shown that by bringing my family over with me."

Point well made and he knew we needed to hear that.

Listening to his conference, I thought he was a bit wishy washy on his 'style' - probably because he's never been a head coach before and he's never had to stamp his own style on anything.

Read that as pragmatic.

Read that as pragmatic.

"Attacking style of football, want to be aggressive, When we are defending, want to be aggressive. And compact."

"I believe if you set up compact and don't concede a lot of goals then that's how you win games"

So his is philosophy based on attacking aggressively or is it based on being compact and defending well? It doesn't sound like he necessarily has a clear idea yet. It's not surprising, as Rudan only really got a view of what he wanted to do based on his work in the NPL.

He also said he "wants to win everything, anything and everything". Doesn't exactly scream pragmatic to me. Sounds like something a fan would say.

My first read isn't *great*; Rudan nailed his pressers - Talay hasn't been media trained like him though so it's not surprising.

Only so much you can draw from a press conference. Darije gave the best tactical explanations in press conferences I've ever seen from an A-League coach and that didn't turn out great.

"Where does the squad need improvement most?"
"Well we need players first"

Yeh not the prize speech winner Rudan is or the bellicose personality, but seems to be his own man. More to come hopefully.

They didn't ask him about Williams- because they assume he's gone?

They also didn't ask if he'd stick with a back three or anything like that. Not much to go on at this stage- but he's here and he can get to work.

"but Roy, if he decides to stay in the A-League, will be staying with Wellington Phoenix."

Wished they asked if he was going to watch NZ in the u20 world cup.

He did briefly mention the U20 World Cup when asked about young Kiwi players.

Really hope he keeps Greenacre on as assistant coach.

He's a new coach at this level and he really needs Greenie local knowledge and experience.

Greenie is a great guy but surly its past time we tried something a bit different there.

Enjoyed the presser. Sounds quite confident without coming across as a cod. Interesting points re recruitment, can't wait for him to get started!

My reading of it is that he's not going to be recruiting to suit "his plan" but that he'll look for decent players of quality that will commit to play here and he'll build the plan around them.  If successful, it'll still take a long time to get the team gelling, but we've seen that with the past season season squad already.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

24 May 22:54

Hopefully, we sign Waine on a permanent basis looks one for the future. Just and McCowatt both would be good signings too but don't think they will.

What was wrong with it - I believe he said his style was to look to get forward, play attacking football, score goals, and be compact and the back and not concede!  What could go wrong!

Can only speak for myself and not the other journos at the presser, but I personally don’t think there was any point in asking about Willo cuz there isn’t much to say. He knows who the coach is, the club has an offer on the table, it’s really just down to him at this stage. Not a lot Uffie can do anymore.

Back three would have also been a good question - regretting I didn’t ask it. However, he seems to want to stamp his own style on the team. That could mean a formation change and a switch back to four at the back.

I would like to see him stick around - I’m sure he played a part in Rudan’s success and he almost certainly has the players respect, and influence with them.

He certainly played an important role in developing some of our best young players - Rufer, Singh, Cacace, etc

25 May 03:55

Agree with that but is he more useful as an assistant of the first team or having a bigger influence on the younger players. My concerns are he has been sitting in the assistants chair for some time yet no matter what has gone down and there has been some bad shark. He has managed to escape it all. Remember that corners and free kicks situation and no one had an answer to our lack of imagination and it was openly joked that was Greenies baby.

So Ufuk wants us to play like SFC, very boring and become thugs.

He did say that he wants us to play an attacking style of football, but also said it will be like the smurfs. So a bit of an oxymoron there.
