Great news for the bar owners in towns with an A-League side.
Coaching Sydney atm would drive any one to drink, that kills two birds with one stone.

To be fair he has done a decent job with PNG, but not sure he is the right fit for Sydney.
I dont know how you fix Sydney, and Im not sure who would want to take on that horrible squad, but 1 thing I do know, is if McFlynn and Abbas are your two screening midfielders, then you are doing something wrong.

27 Nov 09:50

Pretty much all the press reports are coming out saying Farina. He seemed to get PNG's defence working well at the OFC nations cup, maybe he will be able to fix Sydney's. Scoring goals isn't their problems, so if he could stop them leaking like a sieve they might start picking up points.

28 Nov 08:13

oh awesome.  Is Frank going to whinge and moan about coming here in a fortnight?

28 Nov 08:58

Shouldn't this be on the news page?

Interesting choice, I wished they picked Miron cos he's such good value for a quote.

Hope Frank steadies the ship (but they still end up below us!)

Bit rough News!

03 Dec 03:28

Just another typical Monday morning for Sydney FC, Gary Cole gets ousted in a re-structure and Petratos gets released. Along with Farina changing training to 9am starts and double sessions, as well as cancelling Thursday's day off.

03 Dec 03:48

The afternoon is for the pub.

They're starting to assemble a decent squad. But how the hell are they (pretending) to get them all under the cap?

It is just the normal rules. If you have a NYL team, you need to get dispensation to call up an injury replacement from outside the club. Nothing new, just not something we have to deal with.

I think Dale's point is that they are getting an exemption to the visa player rule but if he's a straight swap for Boschaart then surely he just uses Boschaart's import spot like Clarke was for Sanchez with us.

It's probably a little late for Dale in California.  He looked wrecked (and cold) 3 hours ago.

Yeah, that is probably what he is thinking.

Very surprised Sydney went for Tiago, he just isn't very good. Jurman isn't that flash, but he surely would be a better pick up. Pretty sure Roar want rid of him.

Emmo is Aussie marquee, Culina because of his injury probably came cheap & their squad has loads of youngsters on the minimum.

Griffiths would be the interesting one. Hes such a scrooge cunt, he would not get out of bed for less than $300k. I would doubt Sydney are that far under the cap

Yeah.  After the disaster in Newcastle it was thought he wouldn't play again.  He was training with Sydney to test the knee out and they offered him a low deal just to give him a chance to test things out and he had no other offers.

That is my understanding anyway.

Agreed, Tiago isn't very good at all (thuggish bastard too). But Jurman is probably the worst defender in the league currently, and that's saying something. 'Highlight' for him was his three errors to cough up three goals when Roar got hammered by Heart. Not surprised they want to flush him away ASAP.

He was impressive at the end of his Sydney contract, so a move back to his home town might help him regain that form. And wouldn't say he is the worst, McClenahan is terrible and he would possibly be a step up on him.

Guess Tony P looked for a very quick fix after hearing Bosschaart was out. Think it is a really poor transfer for them.

Reading the Sydney forums, they understandably are not happy. They are hoping this clause helps them out.

12.6 Except in exceptional circumstances, FFA will not approve a player as a Replacement Player if that Player has played for another Club in that A-League Season if the Standard Player Contract in respect to the Player's previous club was terminated after 1 December in that A-League Season.

[Edit: can't seem to find that in the 08/09 - 12/13 copy of the CBA on the PFA website]

Why do the ALeague even bother having rules if they just bend them all the time?

I can't find where the person was quoting that from, think they are wrong. They just need to get permission to bring in a injury replacement because they have a NYL team.

Which I take to read as:

1) Default position is a NYL player should be the replacement player

2) Club can apply for a replacement player to be someone else based on a criteria.

3) A non-NYL replacement player can't have played for another A-league club if that contract was terminated after 1 Dec.

Ah, that is where the Sydney boards got that clause from. I was looking at the CBA from before that one.

In other words, it is all up to the FFA now.

Oh right. The fact that he's played for another club changes things. Didn't reaslise that.

Seems Jurman isn't available, which is surprising.

SYDNEY FC are sweating on getting clearance from A-League chiefs to sign Brazilian defender Tiago from the Jets after failing in a bid to lure Roar centreback Matthew Jurman back to the club where he turned professional.

...

Jurman meanwhile looks set to stay at Brisbane for the rest of the season at least, though he has been linked with a move to Korea following in the footsteps of Luke DeVere.

Kevin Airs from 442 tried to do some digging for me.

Official line is they have already promoted from NYL, he’s a visa player and they’ve other injuries in same position.

That explains exception from 12.4 relating to NYL (which seems fair to me). But doesnt really explain exception from 12.6 thou

They came up with 11 reasons why it was exceptional including some technical ones too tbf.
