I see el Mago has been announced as Captain.  Somewhat surprising no?  I'd have thought it would be Rufer, if not Ball or Devere? Maybe it was part of his agreement to come back?

No idea how TV deal works, and if they have to complete league by scheduled July 2021 date or be in some sort of TV rights breach.

But if moving to a full winter league season 2022 (so start say March 2022) - you are looking at something like a 8-9 month off season!! So they could have plenty of time up their sleeve this year to complete a full program of games, if they can extend finish of this season.

A-League and W-League chiefs have been working frantically to reschedule the fixture list in the wake of the coronavirus crisis in NSW, but the season is still expected to kick-off on December 27, as scheduled, when the new match program is unveiled on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory coaching staff and players are set to avoid a nightmare Christmas in lockdown thanks to an exemption to Victorian government rules as the end of their quarantine period in NSW nears. Victory coach Grant Brebner, his support staff and players have been in quarantine in Sydney since returning from their Asian Champions League campaign in Doha earlier this month.

Melbourne City's men's and women's teams were set to travel to Sydney for a December 30 grand final rematch, but that game will now almost certainly be rescheduled when A-League boss Greg O'Rourke announces the new fixture.

A-League new-boys Macarthur and Western Sydney Wanderers can still kick-off the campaign as programmed, but Melbourne Victory's women, who were due to travel to play the curtain-raiser against Western Sydney, will not head north. They will be replaced by another opponent.

The men's Victory group is due to end their quarantine on Tuesday and return to Melbourne to enjoy time with their families – whom they have not seen since leaving for Qatar in November.

But all their plans were left up in the air given the COVID-19 outbreak in NSW, sparking fears that they may have to isolate again upon returning to Victoria from NSW.

However, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed on Monday afternoon that overseas arrivals who have undertaken two weeks of mandatory hotel quarantine in Sydney will not need to quarantine again if they fly to Melbourne.

"We are working to excise the [Sydney] airport from the red zone, so that if you would have travelled from a [quarantine] hotel to the airport, you have not essentially visited the hotspot, you're not part of the red zone," he said.

Andrews said there may be "some testing" and a short isolation period at home for those in this category.

"[But] we are not envisaging people having to do another two weeks of hotel quarantine if they're coming out of hotel quarantine," he said.

Andrews said there would be a range of rules for those travellers, such as wearing a mask for the entire journey from a Sydney quarantine hotel to Melbourne and not leaving Sydney airport.

Sources familiar with the situation said Victory were hopeful of beginning their A-League season on January 2 against Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park.

The group has spent most of the past six weeks in a form of closed captivity. When they were playing their Asian Champions League games they were in a "bubble", getting COVID-19 tests every few days. They have been in a similar bubble in Sydney quarantine since they returned, only allowed out of their rooms for training and then in supervised circumstances, under tight bio-security protocols. Players and coaches have also been tested regularly while in Sydney.

Western United, who host Adelaide in Geelong on December 28, will play as scheduled.

A-League officials have had plenty of practice in re-jigging the fixture, having done so once before when they established a hub in NSW and completed the 2019-20 season in July and August.

Payne looked at fault for 2 goals.

Lewis looked like he was involved in everything based on those highlights.

Sensible solution. So Melb City and Nix swap opponents in Round 1?

ie MC travel to Brisbane & NIX play SFC?

Confident that they will get season fully completed, and will be each team playing each other twice, if not obviously home & away.

Will definitely end up better & fairer than the MLS where some clubs played each other 4-5 times in the season just completed, and other teams didn't play at all due to travel restrictions.

Or somewhere in between. This article say high priority folk from March/April, rest of the NZ population by mid 2021.

But hopefully it's an 'under promise, over deliver' situation.

March/April-ish is when we start receiving it for front line staff and then people who are most vulnerable. The world needs to vaccinate billions of people - it's going to push manufacturing and logistics to the limit and also the world will be prioritising countries with the largest daily death rate over those with zero. So there will be vaccine here in March/April but by the time it's widely available it will be quite late in the year. Similar to the flu jab it will be first restricted to those who are at risk before opening to the general public.

Here's a quote from the PM just last week:

“This will be New Zealand’s largest immunisation rollout ever. Most countries are factoring the rollout to take all of 2021 and some of 2022 to complete due to its scale and complexity, also due to production and delivery timeframes,” Ardern said.

“Our first priority will be to vaccinate border workers and essential staff who are at the greatest risk of getting Covid-19. We expect vaccines to be delivered to our frontline workers in the second quarter of 2021.”

A couple of tough games to start with. Sydney and then McArthur. Any word on how many fans are allowed to attend games? Probably be heavily restricted I'm guessing.

I'm sure the Nix could do with the revenue as a lot of Sydney fans would be keen to attend there first game of the season if they are allowed.

Excellent news with the League getting a new naming sponsor in Bunnings.

The big question though, is does this mean the return of the Bunnings chair benches!?

With the rejigging of the draw it only makes sense to have a DIY emporium sponsoring the league.

Mitre 10, are you listening? There is still some room on the Nix stripey for an extra sponsor!

Announced yesterday:

https://www.a-league.com.au/news/a-league-and-west...

"Capacity levels will be reduced to 50% for all games in NSW until the end of December."

I guess they will review it for January but seems likely to be the same for the Nix's first game or two at least.

That's probably the reason why no other club (apart from Melbourne €ity and Nissan) was allowed a car sponsor.

On first glance, I'd say better, just because it makes the kit less plain. I'm just glad we got a sponsor and that the sponsor logo isn't overly big and red.

Asthetically it looks much nicer, so much nicer when the logo is in the team colours. although as an employee of a different large accounting firm I am obliged to hate it!

Yea, it somehow makes it look nicer. It's still lacking some thick trim around the sleeves and neckline. I'm hoping it'll look better on TV

Have to say I far prefer this kit and sponor to the one we are about to use.
