So thats six players out injured. All of whom would have played a part in this match. James is a big loss. Hes our most experianced defender, distributes well and has a great diagonal pass. Most of the defenders are only 20 to 21.
Hopefully Conchie has recovered enough to play a full game. Our bench is increadibly weak/inexperianced.
Football is a remarkable game where sometimes the underdog rises up for a surprise win.
Hopefully we go into the match, get them on the back foot with some positive play, get some luck and hold out for a result.

Looks like the Nix players and management are taking a complete u turn from last years derby approach where they were in the media beforehand taking shots and firing up the derby.

Really nothing but complete silence on the rivalry this time around from the Nix. It’s obviously a plan to treat it like a normal game and not to provide any ammunition to AFC and/or so they don’t look like plonkers if it goes tits up.

Best approach from a football perspective but it’s a shame the first game isn’t in Auckland as it may not be helping the attendance  in Wellington

Dont think its been complete silence at all, agree it hasnt been hyped like last year but by no way has it been silent. Has been plenty of stuff across social media and if your in Wellington and dont know its on i doubt your the target audience.
Plenty on in Wellington this weekend and if your a casual you can attend one of those things which may not be back for a while, yet still attend a Derby in Wellington later in the season.
Completely understand the players  not saying a lot about it.

yeah there's been plenty across FB and Insta, plus the public appearances at the railway station - just because you dont see it doesnt mean it's not happening.
Perhaps you should question your new fave club why they arent promoting the game more?

Yep it’s just a shot gun blast by someone aimed at anyone who is not a sheep and dares to question things up with the club, hoping that one day those aspects will improve.

I also have supported the Nix since game one. It’s quite a large club.

Nothing shotgun about it, t was directed at you primarily! You may very well have been a suporter since day one, but it's pretty celar to me and may others that you're allegiances have shifted somewhat since the emergence of AFC. Not saying you now support them, but I'm questioning your actual support of the Nix given the distinct lack of it.

Think you're overreacting a bit there, calling someone an AFC supporter is proper rude

What's this AFC we keep mentioning? The only AFC I know is the Asian Football Confederation. ;)

Is that the p*rn hub one?

If you are talking about AFC not really their job but if you look at the mainstream online media today they are the only ones actually doing anything.

Elliot and Brimmer on stuff and herald.

Isnt funny how the algorithm provides media users with things that they follow/like etc. I've seen nothing from AFC about the derby in Wellington, yet the various feeds I have keep showing me numerous things the Nix are doing.

I remember seeing that video originally posted early last season some stage - I figured it was likely a Cameo type scenario whilst she was over playing in Utah where someone paid her for a personalised message saying that? Don't actually know if she is/was on those platforms or anything but it seemed the most likely scenario to me

Ah yeah that makes a lot of sense, looked it up and shes on a website called Swysh which seems like a cameo copy. She probably didn't expect to be back at the Phoenix a year later, and I don't think she would've done it while at the nix.

you know my age?
At a guess I'd say we are closer in age than you care to think.
At the end of the day, we all see the world through different lenses, mine are very much tinted yellow and black, yours seem to have a more blue tinge to them - and I will always call out bias where I see it.

Sorry to 'out' you AP, as I've got nothing against you and I do enjoy your posts....

.... but I did see you refer to Auckland FC as "us" in a post recently.

No malice intended, just amusement :-)

Need to challenge an individual from the Port/T-AFC to match you.

Now that’s better than dumb insults and cos playing at old East bloc rivalries or doxxing fans …

Or someone do a similar thing but donate free tickets to RMcD house or that dance and fun charity for Down syndrome guys…

Yeah but I think the general tone is that Elliot holds a little bit of a grudge towards the Nix, after the way he left the club, Departure II.

It obviously consumed him when he was without a football job, before Motherwell came knocking. I remember reading an interesting Tommy Oar (one of the smarter ex footballers out there) piece, that when as a young footballer you are suddenly without a club it can lead to some dark depressing thoughts.

Reading about Carlo Armiento and the Roar letting him go, was a bit similar. Armineto found being football unemployed more stressful than his cancer treatment.

We all saw Toomey's emotional ugly spray at Oluwayemi last season.

So Elliot is now employed in Auckland, and happy with that - but yeah he probably doesn't lack motivation for this weekend.

I thought the Nix withdrew their offer to Elliot because they realised he was just using the Phoenix's offer as a bargaining chip to push up offers from other clubs and had no real intention of re-signing...

Or am I thinking of someone else? Just seems a bit surprising to hold it against the club if that was the case

I remember it more like Elliot was probably weighing up his options. He would have ultimately signed with us but was dilly dallying and trying to get more money out of the Nix. There was a deadline on the Phoenix's offer at the time and once that deadline hit the Phoenix stopped all negotiations and just said well 🤷‍♂️ too bad I guess. That was a shock to Elliot at the time - he probably thought he was valued more than that.

Reading between the lines I think Chief may have had something to do with no counter offer being made by the Nix. I remember it was around the time that he took over as coach and he said something along the lines of you need to want to play for the Nix (as opposed to just considering the money alone).

I believe the reason was he wasn’t impressed by the figure that the Nix put in for his release clause

That’s also what he said in the recent interview

That was mooted at that time.  They agreed to (apparently) decent high wages and the Nix set the early buyout price accordingly.  I have no first hand knowledge though.

Yea both him and Sail fancied themselves as good enough for European moves and so didn’t want a release clause to get in the way. Look how that’s turned out for them both

I think the problem Elliot ran into was Devlin being given consideration to go to Newcastle and then going from Newcastle to Hearts and the Nix not getting a transfer fee. Can’t remember the exact details.

Iirc the club felt a bit burnt after doing a lot of good faith stuff with players, but not seeing any return in transfer fees.

Not good for from or for either side iirc?

But yeh the fans still love you Callan! But less while you’re playing great against us.
