We had the potential penalty appeal by Adelaide scrubbed out for simulation last week; you could argue either that player wasn't as good at milking a penalty as Cosgrove, or it is a difference (inconsistency) between the VAR at one game vs another.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
I like Seamus Marten and Gordon Watson as commentators...I know they may be busy in other roles in football as well, but i find that they are good...also the NZ guy based in England who recently commentated the NZ games (I remember him doing Africa Nations Cup and Africa World Cup qualifiers as well)...so there are other options out there mikecj
I want this feature for lots of football. The euro quals/nations league the comms endlessly spouting crap, sometimes about different games, for…reasons.
I have come to accept that many people like “summarisers” giving the life story of each person who touches the football, rather than spending time commentating on what is happening on the pitch at that particular moment. I’ve come to accept this, but not like it. Fenix

Piney creaming his pants.
Ugh, I've had the replay on whilst cooking the tea.
Piney only has two problems - he talks too much, and he talks too much crap.
He has verbal diarrhea by radio standards, let alone TV. He needs to shut up.
His Commentary exemplifies everything that is wrong with modern commentators .
Why cant we just have crowd sounds played so we don't have to listen to their diabolical "commentary" ??
You would stop it tomorrow if a penalty was given everytime it happened. That is how you modify behaviour in all environments, as long as you remain resolute. I wonder how much holding there will be in this ref’s next game if he is allowed or does the same thing!Feverish

Don’t you really want consistency in the same game though? I didn’t take much notice but was it happening all the time at the other end as well? Even in this game, the Ref spent a bit of time at corners telling them all to behave, the players continued not to do so and were rightly pinged. It is (holding) happening a lot in the A League (not sure about other leagues because I usually only watch the Nix and AFC) and I want it stamped out frankly. I agree with the ref and hope the rest of them get tough on it too.Fenix

Looking at those pen decisions again. No AFC player was getting to the ball in both instances - which is frustrating.
But you wrap your arms around a striker in the box and your just asking for trouble and there can be no denying our guys did that. Makes no difference at all for how long they they did it, and that dickhead Cosgrove made a meal of it as any striker should do.
Agreed. But the consistency with the game even is appalling. Holding and pushing are fouls wherever the ball is.
Watching Jets and City at the moment, and there is again so much being let go,and so much inconsistency.
Holding ain’t gonna be stamped out as it is just part of the elite game now. It’s the level of holding/time hanging on that is subjectively pinged now. An EPL var would have thrown the second one out
That is utterly wrong, the replay clearly showed there was no contact yet the attacker made a meal of nothing, therefore deserving the penalty for simulation. not much argument from him either I recall.Mainland FC

How was the away day generally? Better than last time?
Did I see a photo of the Auckland fans with the yellow fever banner?
The bay was defenitely slightly lighter in numbers, and the first half gave us zero to cheer about so was quite quiet. Second half the energy was great for those 15 minutes of pure joy and hope, we were really loud. After the game my friends and their mums were sitting on the same stand but other side closer to port end, and were “surprised how loud we were” and from their seats we were much louder then the port. Expected though as we were under the same roof as them.
After that courageous and stirring performance from 10v12 I have an additional 3 tickets to buy for the Jets game. COYN and stuff the negative nellies. I was at the Auckland game and was proud of the boys. They never gave up. By the way, were you actually there?

It's okay as a fan to not be 'toxicly positive' about your club all the time.
A bit of realism is healthy. Being 'negative' at times shows that you care about the club and want to see it do well.
We are playing better football than last season, and there have been good signs this season. But we've lost every single game to our rivals thus far.
It's not good enough, and even Rufer said something along those lines in his post match interview.

Yeah a couple of lads grabbed it from out front of the pre-match pub and ran off with it, but another AFC fan brought it back within 20 minutes proving that they’re not all idiots.
No harm done, they had their laugh.
(A pair of police cars did arrive shortly after, but general consensus is that was more to do with KFC being just down from the pub.)
The first penalty should never have been awarded,in my view .Watching it live and on a check of the highlights, clearly shows Cosgrove was offside in the section of play immediately before the incident that created the penalty. He was behind (goalside)of James near the left touch line. James was watching play coming towards him and Cosgrove came in behind James from offside, when the ball was played from midfield .Cosgrove was half to 1 metre offside by my reckoning. The assistant ref missed it and VAR didn't seem to the incident in its entirety-just the handling of the players. We saw no slowmo on the screen to help us. I'd like to hear what others think.
He certainly started in an offside position, but VAR and AR clearly decided he was not impacting the play at the time, he then comes back onside before he is held by James. Technically it's a correct call, as far as the offside is concerned. A player is allowed to be ahead of the defenders, they are not allowed to impact the play/attack until they come back onside. James should have left him alone as Cosgrove was never gonna get to the ball.
We were well in this game, I don't recall a game for some time riling me up that much though. My blood pressure was through the roof. The intensity is something else in these derby games.
First Pen was very similar to Spurs v Newcastle during the week, ref doesn't call it, but VAR does, calls the ref to the monitor and pen given. The kind of foul you see at least a dozen times a game. No issue with the pen in isolation, but you start giving those and you have to give a whole heap more.
Sam Cosgrove - quite easy to dislike, he had the ref in his back pocket all game. Kersey - loves the sound of a home crowd Josh - immense shot stopper, always been by far the strongest aspect of his game

James was sent off before the two penalties occurred, so I am assuming you are referring to James sending off.
With respect to the incident that led to the red card, Cosgrove was onside by about a meter.
Piper took a throw in from the sideline, Sheridan and James dropped back to be an option for the throw, Piper instead threw it forward to someone who was not in a good position to receive the throw. Sheridan and James jogged forward whilst Cosgrove stood still. When Hall got to the contested throw and aimlessly kicked it , Cosgrove was onside by about a meter standing still whilst Sheridan and James continued to jog forward past him. When James realised where the ball was going, his forward momentum had taken him past Cosgrove and he was in no position to defend.
Piper will be a little uncomfortable when they sit down to watch the video replay and owes James one.

Holding "being part of the elite game now" is exactly where it's all going wrong. It does not have to be so.
