I think this is a good idea
It is still one of our colours, if not the most important one

Also remember that the people they're trying to entice here are not the dedicated supporters, we're already going, the people they're trying to entice are less likely to own nix merchandise or something yellow, but everyone has something black, it's an easy place to start...

this game appears to have been targeted by the nix nine as one that they want to push very hard, looking at the $15 offer and giving revenue to local football as well as this black out thing

We wanted more marketing, we've got it, so lets support it even if it doesn't meet your very specific personal criteria

Not so sure about this. I think it's good in trying to engage the fans but a weird way they are doing it. Having management telling little Jimmy NOT to wear his new stripey he got for christmas. Now I have to decide whether to wear black or not.

I don't mind the idea, we used to be predominantely black!

Think of it as a trip down memory lane.

Also I don't mind selling a little of our soul to the "rugby fraternity" and their "all blacks" to get more people in the door and more $$$ in the nix coffers.

You'll never beat The Salmon!

What a bizarre idea. Seems like it was made by someone who doesn't follow the team, never spoken to a fan, and has never seen them play.

Also, how will 8,000 people wearing black 'black-out' a bright yellow 30,000 seat arena?

Just BEAT the Heart, plz.

It's just a great big... why?

There doesn't seem to any reason for it at all. "To darken the spirits of the high flyers" - wtf?

On the other hand, if the "unique, once-only-ever event at the game" is that they've booked Joan Jett & The Blackhearts for the half-time show then:

a) I totally get it now, and

b) that would be f**king awesome!!

My first thought this morning was wear your Season 1 strips which, as you know, are predominantly black.

Is the "one-off event" going to be the Nix going "retro" and wearing Season 1 strips for the match?

The other thing as well... why black? Why not blue, or purple or green... I come back to some uni grad rugby fan that thinks black is a cool idea cause the All Blacks did it. We are yellow, the stadium is yellow. How is it going to help?

It's a play on the term "Black Heart".

If "Green Heart" was a common term, they might have suggested Green.

John Kerry "won three purple hearts" So I guess they could have done that...?

Yeah... i get that. But why are we making it about them, the Heart. Why not about us? Are we there to support our team first or trash the Heart first?

Do you think we could organise to wear black and stand in stripes, say 5 seats with people in them, then 5 seats with no people, then 5 seats with people in them... so the fever zone looks like black and yellow  stripes?

Perhaps if we (a group of volunteers of say a dozen of us) got there 2 hours before kick off and seleotaped "Sit here, Don't sit here" notes which we had pre-printed out  on all the seats so that when everyone showed up they could work out where to sit and not sit easily...?

This could have worked if Ticketek only sold odd rows for this game. It would then be only the season pass holders that would have been left out of (horizontal) stripey formation.

agree 100%.  But guess it's a one off thing so I'll support it.  Wonder what the special one off event is.  Ricki in the starting line up or Terry S paying a Bill?

You adventurous devil you!

Further thoughts:
  • So our target market now is Goths and/or AB fans?
  • We could wear season 1/2 shirts and supporters polos which are mostly black (I just might wear my eyechart t because I am a rebel).
  • Since our away strip is white we could have a white out.  There's probably a bunch of song sheets we could distrubute too.
  • Very left-field this gimmick is.  If it brings in the punters then it's worked, if it doesn't then I'l post a "nyah, nyah, nyah" to all you blackhearts.

We could also all go and sit in Aisle 13 - 15 (or whatever the correct number is for where the Daniel Fan Club traditionally sit). One Aisle over there, packed, would be some tribute.

Have you ever tried to organise a crowd to do anything?

Not only would it be a friggin' impossible nightmare to do it vertically, because of "stadium seating configurations" they lines would be wobbly!

Yes.

A number of times in the Bloc.

Not wobbly lines!? Surely not!?

There's a thing called chalk, and string...  It can be done. Some of the Ultras displays on youtube are incredibly complex. All I am talking about is lines and gaps in the crowd. Easy.

Sorry don't take what I posted to be critical!

I just find organising people (especially after they've been to the Bencher, etc.) a little difficult!

And regarding the lines - seating at Westpac isn't in an ordered grid fashion is it? I'd expect that the seating is staggered so that the seat in front of you is not directly in line with your seat hence the edges of the "lines" would appear slightly warped? Effect might be ok for TV though.

But yeah pretty impossible to do this without club/stadium involvement.

P.S. Does anyone know how they managed to do that MASSIVE "ALL BLACKS" display at Eden Park prior to the world cup?

It looked so tidy that I could almost swear it was computer generated, and I'm surprised not to have heard more about this because IMHO it was pretty impressive.

I know mate, I didn't take it that way either.

It's not easy. But it CAN be done. You just have to plan well and early.

[quote]And regarding the lines - seating at Westpac isn't in an ordered grid fashion is it? No one sits in the Fever Zone, so it does not matter where the seats are.

[quote]But yeah pretty impossible to do this without club/stadium involvement.

So why try to do it without their involvement?

The way I see it the first step is to float the ideas. I've put up two: 1. Vertical stripes of black and yellow in the zone. 2. Moving to the Daniel Fan Club Aisle en masse for the game (regardless of the black out popularity)

Then you get people to discuss, improve, reject them...

THEN, once there is some sort of 'coming together of the minds' as to what is a good idea and what is not worth doing...

THEN you approach the club/ground and sort it out, plan it, get approval, get volunteers, and then you do it.

But there's not point approaching the club/ground now before there's been any agreement as to what is a good idea and what is naff because the FIRST thing they are going to want to know is "What is it you are proposing to do?".

Put white card on seat, give instructions pre match, hope no one stuffs it. Then realize part is the Aussie supporters club.CboZ2012-01-16 11:08:39

They did it at Westpac Stadium before the Tri-Nations game against SA, I think they placed black or white cards underneath the seats before people came into the stadium and asked everyone to hold them up.

Ahmad - re All Black sign at Eden Park. The way they did it at Westpac was if you were in one of the designated seats you have a bit of white cardboard taped underneath your seat and with about 10 mins to kick-off they told you what was going on and to hold it up during the national anthem.

They did it at westpac too. I think they just left big white cards on the seats with instructions for whn to hold them up. They may have worked out exactly which seats required the white cards on a computer though i suspect.

Fuck this stupid game
