Agree with that too. It's clear he will be replaced anyway.

Update on that. Seems he won't be replaced.
You need to checkout Radio Sport iv with Gareth this morning - see that thread.
No Director of Football role needed now - the biz model can't afford it.
Herbert for 2 more years as coach - 100% backing
No marquees/expensive imports (no change there)
Might take a '
' banner to next home game
they need to do the only sensible thing and pull the trigger at the end of the season - or let him coach the team his way.
For the first time in history I think JD is right on this. Welnix should back Ricki or sack him. As it stands they seem prepared - for the sake of saving a few $$$ - to hire a squid and then tell him to climb trees.

This offseason will really be key to whether Ricki can pull off this style or not. He'll have time (and hopefully money) to recruit players that are able to play 'total football', rather than trying to shoehorn his current crop of players into a style that clearly does not suit them.

I almost feel sorry to Ricki but they need to do the only sensible thing and pull the trigger at the end of the season - or let him coach the team his way.

Replaced with who?
I've still yet to see one person name a viable alternative, particularly from anyone who has advocated Ricki should be replaced.
, but there is no one within a hundred miles of him on the local scene and little in the way of other viable and realistic alternatives. Replaced with who?

Pshaw, we'll have no trouble finding a new coach who'll work for Welnix wages! All we need to do is conduct a worldwide search, like the Tards did. And then hire Greenie.

It will be an interesting off-season. I don't personally believe we will have much luck in recruiting quality players to play the style of football the "owners" want the team to play, if they aren't prepared to spend a bit of money then we will be in the same situation next year. I also agree that there is no-one out there to replace Ricki. I think he has done quite well with the limited abilities of the players we have. Has Gareth let the idea of owning the club go to his head, maybe we should be calling him Gareth Abramovich?
So here's what Gareth actually said on the radio this morning:
Q. Can you guarantee that Ricki Herbert is the coach at the beginning of the 2013/14 season?
A. Yeah, pretty much. I'm not on that committee but Ricki's got a four year contract so I don't see that changing. [Discussion about change of direction] He will drive it, he's the coach. He's got 100% support by the way. Absolutely.
Q. It's our understanding he's got no desire to be that Director of Football any time soon and thinks it's maybe an appointment for a couple of years time. Is that your understanding to?
A. Yes, he's right on that because I just don't think we're where we want to be to enable us to have that position. We have to get financially a bit stronger than we are and that comes down to performance on the field and a whole bunch of stuff off the field, so that's correct. Eventually that's where it would be great to have Ricki. I don't think there's anyone in NZ Football with as much knowledge and skill as that man and we certainly don't want to lose him.
So there you have it. Ricki will be the coach next season and there will not be a DoF position for a couple of years due to finances.

Not exactly a proven head coach.
To me he seems he might be a bit Luc Trani or Rado Vidosic. A great assistant but maybe not a Manager/Head coach but either way you'd want him to prove himself a little more than taking the Jets yoof to 8th in the NYL.
Having sid that, at least you provided a name.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NZF subsidise Ricki at the Nix, right, to the tune of $50k? So, Welnix's budget for a new coach would be Ricki's salary minus $50K. Very good luck finding someone at that price.

Keen to see how ricki goes next year once he's had a chance to mould the squad to the style of football. That will be the proper test.
Changing style mid-season was shambolic.
dammit, baby slaps the keyboard and turns my sh*t into italics all the time - how?
And they're not italics when I post it... I'm confused

You'd stop supporting our club, just because you think the coach is a little over rated?
Good riddance then.
Grumpy old bastard alert
No he hasn't. In fact I have never spoken with nor crossed paths with the guy. I just see a completely over rated coach who seems to climb these ladders and I ask 'How?' We advocate giving him the gig because he coaches a girls football team? If thats the criteria then its open season for anyone.

And I touted him as one of many options as a NZ assistant to ricki who could maybe take over some day in the future.
I don't think the fact that he has coached a nz girls team (at a World Cup I might add) should automatically rule him out of a club gig. Neil emblem has coached a junior men's team at the Olympics, yet you're not having the same reaction to people putting his name forward.
Allegedly
I think the point there though is that Emblen has spent time as a head coach in at least the ASB Premiership as well as his youth coaching efforts.
Also, his youth teams include the Mens U23 which is a little different to the U17 women.
Shit. The two of you agree. Must be a forum in majority then.
Emblen has consistent coaching experience at the NZFC (and winning) and also as an assistant to the AWs (which is different to this case)
I would suggest Temple consider starting at Northern Prem first? Then maybe NZFC before is touted as an assist to the Phoenix.
Grumpy old bastard alert
Yeah, was going to edit as thought it retracted from my main point.
He has also coached at Chelsea academy's. probably a bit light on first team clubs to be fair, but happen to think he'd be ideal as an assistant, and marginally as a potential understudy.
