She'd certainly bring the Wow factor with her deeper understanding of football tactics. She'd bring in a strict fitness regime of running up that hill and would get our title hopes breathing again. But if you think she'd take the job in current circumstances, you're dreaming.

Snuck into the toilets at work to see if we had announced a new coach yet or at least announced a date for the announcement. Instead I find Kate Bush chat. Cheers team

If we have to hang around toilets to find out about our new coach then we are plumbing new depths.

Interview with David Dome on Radio Sport. (From 5.25mins in) http://120.138.20.16/WeekOnDemand/radiosport/2018....

Summary:

When hope to have an appointment announced?
Right in the middle of it at the moment, people they are speaking to at the moment have commitments at the moment. See an announcement in next couple of weeks.
Preference for A-League experience but there is some that are outside the A-League as well that they are looking at.

Do they have a preferred candidate?
Yes its close, down to a couple.

How hard to negotiate contracts when don't have coach in place?
Not really hard, Nix are one of the clubs with least amount of players off contract. Been speaking with head coach candidates and are aligned with players the club wants to keep. Getting a feel for what kind of football candidates want to play and thinking of players off contract that meet that.

Won't move on active recruitment on players until coach is announced but are chatting in the background with players

In discussion with WeeMac, thought best for him a role outside the club.

Matt Ridenton, have discussed with potential head coaches but it is Matts choice. They think Matt has a role in the club but it will depend if they can agree on a price.

So we've been without a coach in what feels like forever, and we're still only down to a 'couple' of favoured candidates.

Permalink Permalink

Assuming it's still the same two obviously negotiations are taking time. I've always found when changing jobs that it's either really quick or can be really protracted as you go into minutia on the contract, and it's impossible to tell from the outset.

At least we haven't locked ourselves into a contract with JPDM before the slapping saga as some were worried we might have done.

Really ffudgeing hell? 3 lighthearted posts and you issue a threat?  So if a good pun opportunity arises we can't do it? Love the way modding has gone on this site recently.

More spin from Dome.

The longer we take to appoint a coach the less likely we are to retain players. The fact now that Ridenton is looking at the Jets should be setting off alarms left, right and centre.

In line with well-sourced rumours that I've seen on Twitter, can we change this thread to "the global search to hire Clarke Gayford"?

Gayford?  Is that a fishy rumour.

Something doesn't quite ring true with his comments and what we had been led to believe before. Either we have been lied to before or something has happened [like the red card incident] that has had us change our mind. There is nothing stopping them from signing a coach and simply not announcing it until the coach has finished their current obligations. We are now being told they haven't made a choice yet - if not, what the heck have they been doing?

Actually I count more than 3 posts and I was more wanting to get it back on topic than threaten people. Personally I don't like seeing a thread has a lot of posts to read and then I click on it and over half of them are some off topic joke. I don't mind a bit as that is what it is but I just wanted to get this thread back on track.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at Nix HQ. I'm with you, NP, the whole process has been very odd. Maybe the real story will come out when we finally get someone across the line.

I agree, for the simple reason that these coach recruitment comments sound like a pre-recorded message, not like a progress report.

Makes me think no actual progress on the final choice has been made. Doesn't mean there is anything more sinister to it, just that they've been unable to move any further to date.  Possibly waiting for one of the two final candidates to turn us down for a better option.

Wow. Back to the Ricki days.

Looks like we're struggling to find a coach who will take the job - Hayden Foxe and JdpM both turning us down. Jesus christ.

To all those complaining - I just think that we aren't an attractive proposition for obvious reasons; to players or coaches. We've gone through every available option and come up with nothing.

Slaps turning us down or was the preferred candidate before his "thought it was Golden Goal" so decides to hit someone.

I hope this is a bad rumour, and that NZF wouldn't agree to Schmid doing both jobs.

One of reasons why the AWs were far more organised at very least off the pitch under Hudson, post Ricki - was Uncle Anthony just had the national sides (involved with U23/20's as well) to focus on.

Sure maybe the AWs won't play much the next 2 years - but to my mind it's just too big a job, juggling all those hats.

Could maybe work (big maybe), if Schmid assumed more like a director of football role at the Nix, and then bought in say likes Greenacre/Figueira/Buckingham, to do the day to day coaching.

It would certainly be a big plus, to have closer relationship between Nix & NZF. Help with the new 'Kiwis first' policy?

I assume Schmid has a pro licence? So he is appointed coach - and Greenacre/Figueira/Buckingham, go about getting their pro licences in next 2 years?

Emma (Professor Trelawney) had the foresight... she was all over Fritz at 75/1 odds on 7th April.

On Fritz: sounds like a low budget-winding down-caretaker for 2 years before we close the doors-type of appointment to me.

Given everything since this post, I'd be looking at Sherman.

I'd be looking at Sherman, too, but as you all know I've been banging that particular drum for weeks.

It's the covert agent, he wasn't exactly right last time round. I wonder if he's representing Shmid in the region? What would make sense is if the Phoenix have tough terms with performance clauses as the season is so important and they need to be able to get rid of someone if they're not performing.

I have to say, out of every season since the Nix were created, this is probably the best one to share a coach with the NT, since the A-League will finally break for international windows.

As far as Schmid goes - I wasn't over the moon when he signed for the AWs, but I've only watched one game so far, so presumably if he can coach the AWs he can coach the Nix too.

I wonder if Nix management have talked to any of their AWs who were part of the squad that played Canada to get some feedback on Schmid?

Reading into Rob Morrison's recent statements and the lack of movement on coach and players, I really think they're waiting/hoping on a breakthrough in the FIFA/FFA/A-League talks. It's hard to pitch the club and figure out the details when you know that in the current situation you will likely only be around for two years, but the possibility of things changing is still relatively high.

My own view on the future of the club is extremely pessimistic, and biased by my local football allegiances, but if I was a candidate doing my own diligence I would be very cautious about taking this job.
