Just a theory It could be a smart play, say you don't appoint your coach for 4 months you could save at $20, 000 a month $ 80, 000.

Then instead of a $ 240, 000  coach you can appoint a $ 320, 000 coach... same applies to players ...

Even Arsenal have appointed a new manager and they always took their time.

The only reason was because the coach's website leaked the announcement!

We have previously used the same strategy in signing players in order to be fiscally responsible so it is possible

By delaying till the new season starts we could almost afford Wenger.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

But then you are paying $320k for the second year of the deal.

I think at this stage it will be Greenie/Des again and we're just too embarrassed to announce it

It’s always possible Rob has been negotiating in the background with FFA to get Ramon on board.

Rob might have just been told that Greenie and Des Coaching Combo have already triggered automatic contract extension on the basis of the half season they've coached the Nix

When asked about JPDM and the Nix job

Well he would say that.

I hate being a negative nancy, but when do we all think it's 'too late' to sign a manager that would make a difference for next season? Have we already reached that point? I worry that the majority of serviceable A-League quality players off-contract have already been snatched up, and that affects us since we're waiting for a manager to make decisions about the playing squad.

I can't wait to hear the final reason for why it has taken so long to appoint a manager, although I doubt we will ever really know. I am assuming [hoping] that we do appoint one. Some possible public explanations:

1. We wanted to make sure we got the right person.

2. We had almost signed that idiot from the Victory and then he went and slapped that guy, so we had to start again.

3. We got really close with [insert name and number of coaches here] but they turned us down at the last minute.

4. We were selling the club and didn't want to hire a manager, then the club sale fell through with no other bidders so we had to start the search again from scratch for a coach.

Out of interest, does anyone have access to a 'situations vacant' football coaching service or website and seen any advertisement for the job?

Instead of a coach this season, we are going to pick the team and the formation each week via Yellow Fever polls.

Looks like Hayden Foxe has opted to re-join Popa at the Glory instead of replacing JPDM at the Victory. He had been previously linked with the Nix job. Guess that only leaves the NZ based guys to turn us down now.

Funny enough was reading about a club in Asia that did this. http://www.foxsportsasia.com/football/asian-footba...

That was the scene that Mark Watson and a group of fellow Luton Town supporters found themselves facing back in 2008 but this time something different happened. What if, Watson wondered, the fans actually controlled the decisions that the coach

made?

Wow, after his return from Mars, Mark Watson continues to break new ground and even dipped his toe into the world of football.

Not bad for a botanist!

Yes but never mind Dome says he learned a lot from selecting the fool he called a coach last season

And this is reason 137 why we should have made an appointment during the season rather than riding it out with caretakers.

Permalink Permalink

Is it permitted to start the new season by fielding a side in the A -league without a coach or assistant coach on the side line?

There was the caretaker role twice now that was accepted as it happened during the season. But what about starting a season with a caretaker because we dont have a coach yet with the required qualifications. Or if a caretaker coach is not permitted in thoses circumstances could the captain just run the team on game day.  Kind of amusing to think about , if it wasnt for the sneaking feeling, not many required qualified coaches may want the job.

I've been mildly surprised that the mainstream nz sports media hasn't been asking more questions about the coach, but I guess most of them were more interested in the club folding than anything else.
