Clanger last Saurrday was not his first. Great shot stopper but punches too much and has brain fades at the worst possible times.

Am I the only one that doesn't feel super confident with him back there? Punches a lot, looks nervy a lot but does make some wonder saves.

Nothing wrong with punching. As long as it's done properly.

His first of the season. Not bad for 10 games. Name me a keeper in the HAL who hasn't cost a goal this season.

Italliano?

Velaphi. Hasn't conceded a goal. 1 start. 1 clean sheet...

Moss is good enough. There are better keepers in the A-League but I doubt we could actually go out and sign one of them. It makes sense to lock up a local keeper because high quality ones aren't always floating around.

Bring back Vudovich, also a proven scorer! A crowd favourite, an honest player and a bloody good sort. Moss is a nice guy too but i think we can do better. Whilst not soley responsible, 51 goals last season.

So we should get in Vukovic for his personality?

Permalink Permalink

No, for his goalkeeping ability which in my opinion is better.

Absolute no-brainer signing.  I'd just want to make sure (as much as possible) he always has someone behind him keeping him honest so he never takes that spot for granted - it's important for all players.  He's got a few weaknesses but if he didn't he wouldn't be here.

cos personality goes a long way?..look at all those mad-hat keepers. Grobbelaar, Nikita, Schmeichel. One might say essential attribute.

Happy with Mossy between the sticks- he's entering his golden years hopefully. Also if Riera, Rodreiguez, Roly, Dura and Siggie do their job he hopefully won't have too much to do.

Used to be a doubter, not this year.

Good to have that leadership in the team.

Yes he has a clanger, like every keeper does, every now and then but I really rate Mossy.

Some of his saves are unbelievable, his 1 on 1 defense is immense and he as a great record at saving penalties.

For me re-signing Mossy is brilliant, especially after I heard he could be off to SA with Brocks.

Happy to have him back.  Just as happy, or even more happy, to hear his comments on why he wants to be here.

"The people at this club – players, football management and office staff – are fantastic and even at this early stage have been helping me with my ambition to work in the media when I finish playing.

"I have also been impressed with the direction the club is taking.

"I was here at the start and the future has never been as clear as it is now.

"The way we have worked on our culture and values since Ernie arrived has been impressive, and it is just as important to pay attention to that as it is to how we play.

"The way Ernie has got the team training and playing is exciting and that's why I wanted to be here in the longer term.

"I believe this club is going to go places in the future because it is getting stronger all the time and I want to be part of it.

"Now there is a reserve side, youth team and academies, there is a path way for ambitious young footballers to follow.

"When we visit schools and talk to the kids now they say they want to play for the Phoenix when they grow up where it used to be the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea."

why the fudge would we want to resign moss, we have italiano. Why resign someone who we know can perform, even as future cover. Give italiano a walk into the first team please. We shouldnt resign moss as italiano will never ever be allowed to play football because of him.

but seriously, when did italiano get so good that now he should be no1 keeper?

i mean moss is alright, but certainly not so shiet that he didnt deserve an extension.

Nothing against Italiano, but why are people so sure he is class? We do not seen him play very often.

Very good signing for the club. Name another keeper lining up to take his place that is as experienced, as good, not an import. Cupboard is bare.

He makes mistakes, name a single person in life that has not made one in their job. He makes them in his like everyone else. 1 in 10, I'll take that every single week thanks.

Italiano looked good in the preseason gam at Upper Hutt. Decent shot stopper and massive kick on him. Communicated with his defence.

you have to say that things are starting to click into place....coach, midfield, front three, now keeper. Next up the franchise then the stadium. Oh and not forgetting crowd numbers.  Come on Wellington stand up!

So who of the players contracts expiring at the end of the year, do people think we should ofer new deals?

I think only two - Boyd and a bit of a stretch Boxall. As much as Sigge is lovable I think the time has come to move on.

what do you base offloading Siggy on?  He has been excellent  all year has cleaned up discipline problems and has proven he can play football.

Worthy if another year if he wants it.

yep. I would appeal on behalf of the elderly, infirm and bewildered; Siggy gets a least a year's extension.

I don't see why Sigmund shouldn't get another year. It depends how much money he wants. I think we should be looking at signing a replacement for Sigmund but depth is never a bad thing. Hicks is not popular among most here but he seems like a good player to have in your 23 who earns very little money and frees up cap space for others.

Siggie'sa much better payer than Boxall.  I'd let Boxall go, keep Siggie, try and get another year out of him and sign a proper back-up

mmmm...think Boxall will be a shoe-in into one of the CBs spots and Siggy is still playing at a high level. One more year, possibly longer for Boxall but watch the wage bill.

By a proper backup do you mean an Aussie or kiwi centre back who is better than Boxall, around the same cost in salary terms, and will be happy with a handful of games a season? Because I'm not convinced that such a player exists.

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

Also wasn't too bad against some decent shots at the end of a FU tour game IIRC. Made one really good save to keep us ahead...

I second keeping Siggy, been the better CB this year. Too bad Merick didn't come along earlier in his career as Ben has really improved certain areas of his game.
