Updated for Brockie removal, also word is Boxall has been signed to Supersport as well from July. I think only Boyd  & Siggy might get extensions from the lot leaving this year. That'd put us at 17 Players signed up for next season, taking Ernie's comments from the Pod into account the players to be signed are a Striker to replace Brockie, a Defender who can play across the back, and 3 youngsters.

I would be surprised if JBS didn't get an extension. He may or may not be the best defender anyone has ever seen. I think he IS progressing though. He marshalled the backline at Kiwitea Street with aplomb I thought, and played damn well in Adelaide in round 6.

He seems to be on the development path and doing everything that coudl be expected of him. If we didn't give him a new contract I'd say the bar is set very very high.

Did he play fullback or CB at Kiwitea?

CB, generally the right hand CB of the two (Evans was the left most CB, most of the time)

The back four were:

LB Doyle, CB Evans, CB JBS, RB Dimario

It's pretty save to say, the boys who play regular for the WeeNix are the next in line for the first team, they keep them if they develop.

Ben Sigmund will stay, where should he go? He loves the club and is settled in Wellington. He already made his full commitment for the Phoenix with not playing for the All Whites. He still his a very solid player, sign him for two years.

Sign him for 1 and then review based on his output.

Yep, quite correct.  Though we'd probably be better at looking at senior playing numbers, rather than populations.

I was replying to a comment that we probably had an advantage in being able to recruit from all of NZ vs the advantage Aus teams have with their 26 man squads and Youth League.  So whether you go by state size or city size, you get the same answer, we do have a wider population to draw from.

So, we should be second in the league then

The best way the Nix could deny it would be by announcing that he's signed a new deal with us

Kenny will be goneski. Could see a deal for JBS being dependent on how the Academy kids are progressing, same with Hicks. Would keep Boxall & Boyd.

never quite got the use of the word "aplomb"....always thought that was only used by commentators in sheepskin coats and Ron Manager!

Because I think if Boxall was staying, Siggy wouldn't have got the 1 year extension. They would have cut him loose, brought Boxall in and developed someone from the academy as back up.  With Boxall going, they need the experience of Siggy to play and would rather have someone on his last legs [age-wise anyway - he is playing bloody well] than have to use an untried youngster.

Except that Siggy is playing well to deserve a one year extention, so why cut him loose. Better to have siggy in the squad (even if he is on the bench), than have no cover if one of our CB get injured, or suspended.

Id expect the scherminator to be gone before Boxall.

I wouldn't. Shermy shows promise but still clearly needs development. If he's got half a brain he'll know that, which means he'll be happy to spend another year in the squad, mostly playing for the reserves. Boxall on the other hand probably feels like is good enough to be playing first team football, and if he can't get it here then he'll probably look elsewhere.

If Boxall were to do I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in two years for first team football presuming he does well in SA or wherever.
